I posted one time about the coach at Beckville. May be some small school head coaches that would take the job just to move up. Might be better off than hiring big school assistant who has never been a hc.

Yeah, Henderson just tried that too...5-15 from a team the last to years under that guy from a "big time s[program" in DFW area...from a team who had not missed the playoffs in like forever (and had won a 'ship) under Castles...

Robert E. Lee (now Legacy) tried that once before...

...it didn't work out too well then either...

The ref on the line of scrimmage on Carthage’s side gave Gilmer a full yard on several occasions - made a difference on Gilmer getting a first down on 4th down once…….but they are high school officials for a reason.

At least they have the cojones to put on the stripes and get out on the field!  Easy to make the call from the cheap seats.

And how do you know many of them haven't called or don't still call college football?

Did the QB actually facemask? And is that even a rule

The QB is the ball carrier. Essentially the only penalty you can call on a ball carrier is a face mask penalty.  He was apparently ruled down as he pulled the defender down by the face mask.

  5. We had a coach back in the day at Gladewater,Coach Bobby Bernard, (who a NCAA Hurdling Champion at TCU), who would often say, "Boys, you gotta scratch and claw for every point...every point." It didn't matter if was football or at a track meet, that was his go-to saying.

We went 4 rounds deep as the 4 seed in 2013.

And in 1978, the Bears sat home from the playoffs as an undefeated team, only tying West Rusk 7-7, who then advanced into the playoffs by having more penetrations I believe.

Missed calls both ways like the bad snap that the refs called dead.

How was it a "bad snap?" (Legit question.)

I ask because if it was an"illegal snap,"(which the signal would have been the same as for a "false start,") then the play would have been whistled dead. Again, only asking for clarification on what happened.

The subscription to DCTF is an EXCELLENT value.  Not only are you getting all of the premium articles such as this, but you now have access to computer poll rankings.  That in itself is worth FAR more than what you're paying.

I second this comment! Not only do you get the magazine (and before it is available on the stands to the rest of the Texas Football World, you have TONS of online information, podcasts, videos, etc. at your finger tips! And you get to hear Tepp & Stepp and see the lovely Ashley Pickle from time to time!

I didn't say it wasn't against the rules.  I just said I didn't have a problem with Gilmer's last Thursday. If the purpose of the rule is to make sure the numbers could clearly be seen, I'm not sure why those worn by Gilmer were against the rules. I could easily see their numbers. As far as Gladewater's last Thursday, they were in all white with black numbers.

Although all 3 teams have the same colors they don’t necessarily wear the same style. On second thought I think Dekalb's colors are orange and white. Not sure why you brought these 3 teams up. Are you saying they should change their colors?

    Golf,

First, I personally don’t have a problem with any of the three team’s jerseys.

it is the head of UIL that apparently has the problem.

As far as Dekalb, their colors are orange and black and their mascot is the bears.

Yea cause got to play the refs, coaches and players tuff task lol wonder how much the refs got paid from last year's game lol kidding🤣😂 by 2 points and td that Walker scored on over turned lol I bet on the Gilmer side they were praying that last td of late didn't count.

If memory serves me correct, that "winning" TD was called back because of an offensive lineman was something like 10 yards downfield when the pass was thrown, which was not the first time said OL had done it during the game.

As long as I can make out the numbers I don't have a problem with dark on dark. Gilmer's last Thursday night were fine. Most problem I have reading numbers is when players pull their jerseys up revealing their mid sections and hiding half of their number.

Actually, by definition from the powers=that-be at the UIL (Dr.Elzra to be exact), thos dark jerseys worn by Gilmer (along with the same color & style worn by Gladewater and Dekalb) are, by the UIL's definition - "illegal."

And it is NOT TASO, it is the UIL who is behind this issue.

Couldn’t read the article as I’m not a subscriber... what’s the gist of it?

The UIL lifted its Friday night broadcast ban for the 2020 football season, in a supposed one-time move necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic and the capacity restrictions that were put in place across the state.

With the offseason quickly winding down and Covid-19 restrictions being loosened across the state, many questions are being asked about the possibility of live Friday night broadcasts for the 2021 season.

As of now there is no word from the UIL regarding the status of the Friday night broadcast ban for the 2021 season, but there should be movement that comes down sometime in the summer. According to multiple sources, an informal survey among the THSCA has already been taken and the response was more than positive for the ban to be lifted.

A survey regarding the Friday night broadcast is being sent out to school superintendents in the next couple of weeks that could be quite influential towards a potential UIL Legislative Council decision.

One interesting potential plot twist to the decision-making process will be that currently UIL executive director Dr. Charles Breithaupt still has the ability to make decisions without the approval of the Legislative Council, based on the emergency measures put into place last spring at the start of the pandemic. Will that potential unilateral decision-making power be extended, or will we see a return to a more normal operating process within the UIL soon?

Another factor to consider is stricter local guidelines surrounding Covid-19; local school districts can still possibly limit attendance for the 2021 football season, which complicates matters even further. Most sources believe there’s more support for lifting the Friday night broadcast ban at the larger schools, but much less support exists for the lifting of the ban in the smaller schools.

One possible “compromise” for the 2021 football season may be treating football broadcasts on Friday night like other sports and how football broadcasts are handled for Thursday and Saturday night games, which involves the mutual agreement of both participating schools.

Expect some clarity surrounding the rule to come in June or possibly with an announcement at the 2021 THSCA Convention in San Antonio.
