  1. Who beat Silsbee this year other than Center?
  2. Syrus Henderson - don't know if he played in college
  3. In the last 7 minutes of this game, Silsbee outscored Yates 38-17!
  4. From a very reliable source: Trimble - drafted by the Yankees after playing at Texas A&M; Harkrider - drafted by the Angels after playing at UT ( I believe he eventually made it to the Big Show before an injury ended his career); Milam - played in an independent league after playing at UH; Jones - drafted by the Braves after playing at Arkansas-Monticello; Goree - played at SFA and might have been drafted; Alexander - played at Panola JC; Williams - played at Vernon JC; Wall - played at Vernon JC
  5. In the 1969-70 season, the Carthage basketball team made it all the way to the state semi-finals, where they were defeated by Kerrville Tivy in Gregory Gymnasium on the University of Texas campus. The late Bill Tatum was the coach. His starters were seniors Larry Tipton (later played at Panola JC) and Paul Leggett (later played baseball at Sam Houston), juniors Johnny Carter (later played at East Texas Baptist College and Panola JC) and Dale Ware, and sophomore Donnie Novak (later played baseball at Panola JC). This team missed no practice time due to an extended run in the football playoffs, as the football team lost their first 7 games on the way to a 2-7-1 season.
  6. The other outfielders were Anthony Williams and Syrus Henderson. Robin Trimble, who was a key member of a College World Series team at Texas A&M before playing in the minors, also played in the outfield when he wasn't pitching.
  7. 1B Bear Alexander (inducted last fall into the CHS Sports Hall of Honor), 2B Terian Goree (Tee's dad), 3B Jerome Jones, C Brandon Milam (later played at UH), P Daniel Hodge (winning pitcher in the state championship game)
  8. He has been coaching for so long that even Scott Surratt played for him!
  9. And, as a result, unfairly favoring Junior over others
  10. Actually, the Carthage basketball team beat every team in the district. Center is the only other team in the district to accomplish that.
  11. Smoaky's reply sheds some light on this situation. It seems to me having a cap on the number of players nominated from one school can in rare cases result in some injustices. Two LBs from Henderson and 2 from Kilgore made the Honorable Mention list, and I have no reason to argue that they didn't deserve it. But if they did, Brown certainly did also IMHO.
  12. I didn't see a single CHS freshman game last season, but from the little I saw of some of the freshmen during the first 3 or 4 varsity playoff games, I wouldn't be surprised to see incoming sophomores starting next season at DT, LB, and safety.
  13. It appears to me that the front-runners for a couple of the LB spots will be junior-to-be Rayvon Ingram (#6) and senior-to-be Jalen Brooks (#23). I wonder if senior-to-be Jacorey Ware (#2) will play some WR next season. His late brother was an outstanding WR on the 2010 state championship team (3 TD receptions in the championship game against Coldspring). Jacorey had 3 interceptions last season in his first start (against Whitehouse) and 4 more in the first-round playoff game against Huffman-Hargrave. (Not sure why they kept throwing at him.)
  14. Does anyone know if the Carthage basketball team has had more games or practices?
  15. Carthage stopped him the next year when he was a senior. I believe he was credited with 1 tackle in that game played in miserable weather. He was double-teamed the whole game and seemed to lose his "enthusiasm".
  16. I discontinued posting on this site the week prior to the playoffs, but seeing who isn't on this team requires that I make a brief appearance to state again this year that the AP's All-State teams are a joke. If they can't do better than this due to factors such as those described above by cotton84, they should discontinue naming All-State teams.
  17. I know. And I sincerely apologize. A couple of posters - one called me names ('idiot", "wuss") and told me to shut my mouth and another called Coach Surratt, of all people, classless - caused me to lose my mind Saturday. I made some posts I shouldn't have to and/or about them that I'm not proud of. Although those two don't represent the entire smoaky.com group of posters, the fact is that they are in that group, there are some others like them, and I apparently am still not capable of ignoring their comments despite my advanced age. That, combined with a sermon I heard yesterday, tells me I should discontinue posting. I've enjoyed posting - most of it anyway. But as my brother keeps telling me about why A&M left the Big 12, "It is time." I'll continue reading. I hope all of your posts will be something you can be proud of.
  18. How true! I'd much rather discuss matchups than timeouts during a running clock.
  19. I included the LCM-Silsbee game in my list based on silsbee92's comment on the prior page of this thread.
  20. It seems there is a common theme for most of the 10-AAAA teams this year. Most have had an embarrassing game or two along the way. Examples: Cleveland 40, Huffman Hargrave 6 Huffman Hargrave 27, Little Cypress-Mauriceville 20 Little Cypress-Mauriceville 58, Silsbee 38
  21. What will be the halftime score? (Trying to decide whether to make the trip to Carthage for the game.)
  22. And how much will the margin be when the running clock is started?
