  16. Baton Rouge and Dallas By: Jim Crews The man who was killed in Baton Rouge was not the first man in human history to be killed by police. He will not be the last man to be killed by police. The officers in Dallas who were killed by the protestor were not the first officers in human history to be killed doing their duty. They won’t be the last officers to be killed doing their duty. To us mere humans, that seems to be unjust. God told us clearly that injustice would be the way of things in our lives on this world. Ecclesiastes 3: 16 Ecclesiastes 5: 8 How we react to real or perceived injustice is what I’d like to take the time to write about this morning. What we are seeing in this nation today is people reacting to real or perceived injustice by seeking vengeance and pay back. That is not the way God showed us we are to react. If we are to be disciples of Christ, we must follow His teachings on things like this. He told us first to love EVERYONE. John 13: 34 – 35 John 15: 12 – 13 John 15: 17 I John 2: 10 I John 3: 10 – 11 I John 4: 8 – 11 We are to love even our enemies. Matthew 5: 43 – 48 So whenever real or perceived injustice rears its head in our minds or in the public eye, we need to remember that hate has no place in our reaction to it. We are to love, IF we are going to be Children of God and not servants of Satan. So then, what should our reaction be as Christians to real or perceived injustices around us? Are we to take to the streets and protest? Are we to fight the fight for earthly justice which does not exist? We should ask ourselves, do we love the things of this world more than we love God? Taking to the streets in protest is showing love for this world. That is one thing we are told NOT to love. I John 2: 15 – 16 Romans 12: 2 So how does God show us that we are to react to things that are unjust or things that we believe to be unjust? We are not to allow our anger to overrule our Faith in Him. We will be angry. There is nothing that condemns being angry. Jesus was angered with people. Mark 3: 5 Jesus showed us and Paul told us that it’s OK to be angry, but we should not allow that anger to lead us to sin. Ephesians 4: 26 When there is an injustice shown publicly or something that we believe to be unjust rears its head, we are not to allow our anger to lead us to sin. We should never lash out in anger at our fellow man. Matthew 5: 21 – 26 We should never resist the things the world throws at us. We should strive to remain Children of Christ in our words and in our actions. Colossians 3: 17 Matthew 5: 38 – 42 We live here on this earth and in whatever nation we have been placed by God, but this world is not our home. We are looking to our home in eternity, and we should not allow ourselves to become mired in the things of this world. The things of this world are unimportant to those who are seeking an eternal home with God. It is OUR duty to spread the Good News on how we can find that eternal rest away from the troubles and trials of this world. God made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Only in the Blood of Christ can our sins be forgiven. This is God’s freely offered gift to us. We must HEAR His message of hope and salvation and we must BELIEVE His message of hope and salvation. Once we have HEARD and BELIEVED, we must OBEY Him, we must do what He said for us to do. What did He say we must do? He said we must REPENT of our past sins. Luke 13: 3 Romans 2: 4 He said we must CONFESS our belief in Him and in His Son publicly. Matthew 10: 32 – 33 Romans 10: 9 – 10 He said we must be BAPTIZED, to have our past sins washed away, calling on the name of the Lord. Mark 16: 16 Acts 2: 38 Acts 22: 16 He said we must LIVE FAITHFULLY unto death. We must live our lives in service and worship to Him. Revelation 2: 10 I John 1: 5 – 7 We should be focused on the things that will come after we have died. Eternity is much longer than the few years we must labor and suffer here on earth.
