  1. Like Longview, JT's numbers fluctuate greatly from the start of the school year to the winter break and into the spring semester. JT might have 4A level numbers in the spring but when fall of the new school year hit JT could have as many as 2,200 to 2,300 students. Unless the UIL boost the cutoff of the realignment by over a 100 students JT will be just fine as always. Now, with that said, I can see JT dropping to 4A in the next 4 to 6 years if the UIL keeps raising the cutoff number by 100 kids every 2 years. All the growth is on the southside of town. Alot of the privates and whitehouse are getting some of the TISD pool. It makes no difference to me personally if JT is 4A or 5A. JT would be a VERY good 4a program though.
  2. JT scrimmaged Naaman Forest 3 years straight before WH played them last year. I know how good they were. They have lost their head coach and alot of their assist. coaches as well. BTW, ya'lls offense scheme-wise is the same as the one JT runs except JT runs alot more running plays and 2 back sets than ya'll do. So in other words same scheme, but different play selections. Mesquite Horn runs the EXACT offense ya'll run as well. I am glad you gave me a legit answer. The key to beating any spread offense is your D-line has to get penetration to disrupt the timing of the qb-wr connection on the field. If you can do that you can stop any spread team.
  3. Well its obvious that ya'll don't won't none SON! I guess your answer is NO because let me tell you right now that this year's JT team is BETTER than the Naaman Forest team that hanged 52 points on ya'll last year SON!!!
  4. This is coming from a fan of a school who's coach who basically "threw" their game against Nac. 3 years ago to avoid playing T high in the first round of the playoffs. If your WH team is SO good then why are they AFRAID to play JT or Lee? I would love to hear the BS excuse!
  5. Is there any chance that Whitehouse will ever try to schedule JT or Lee in the next realignment in 2010?
  6. I have watched JT all year long and since they played Lufkin so close(JT lost 13-12) they have been on fire. I definitely see JT competing for, if not winning the district title this year in 11-5A. It depends on how they do against Mesquite, REL, and Desoto. In 4a, Lindale's win over Kilgore is very big for that team. Lindale has looked totally out of their league since joining 4A and now they could be in place to win their district IF they can beat Whitehouse. These 2 teams have to be candidates for "most improved" teams. JT going from 1-9 to now 4-2 is great bounce back.
  7. What are ya'lls thoughts on this game? JT got in the win column last week and whipped Arlingto Lamar(they were 2-0 going into the game). IMO, JT has turned the corner. They played Lufkin to the ABSOLUTE wire and should have beaten them and now they have just beat down an Arlington Lamar team that was 2-0 and scored 72 points the week previously. JT won 37-10. I watched Rider on ESPN and saw alot of good talent out there for them. SS did a GREAT job against them in the second half. This is a very big game for JT.
  8. I wasn't going to to say anything on this topic but the conversation on this topic peeked my interest. People have to understand that you can NOT COMPARE the public and private school sectors. These are 2 TOTALLY different systems and culture make ups. I am a PROUD graduate of John Tyler High School(class of '01). JT IMO has gotten a very UNFAIR perception on its name from many corners in the Tyler area and by most people in general. The school has sent countless students to the best colleges in America for decades and still does. What it sounds like to me on this thread is everybody is RUNNING from the so-called problems in the public schools instead of teaching their kids that it is NOT the school you go to or the environment that you are raised in, but the MENTALITY and THE HARDWORK that makes you succeed in school and all endeavors of life. I am going to use JT has my example. The school is 55% hipanic and about 40% or so Black in racial make-up, and rest is white. Like all public schools they can only by law teach who comes through that door. Private schools don't have standardized tests like TAKS, and they are not at the mercy of the state fed. governments' bad policies. Yet schools like JT are basically SLAVES to the governments' unfair devices at times. BTW, JT is a SAFE school and yes they have some discipline issues but it is no more or no less than the next school. The private school sector does NOT represent REALITY or the way America really looks like. They are elitest-style institutions set up for people who don't really want their kids going to schools with kids they wrongly feel are not on their level in society or a "so-called" bad environment. These are all bad misperceptions and have a small hint of racial sentiment to it. Now let me say that I am NOT saying anyone on this board or who takes their kids to private schools are racist. That is NOT what I am saying at all. What I am saying is that I feel people who send their kids to private schools when theyhave GOOD public school options are not seeing that they are running away from the problem and not trying to be leaders to help fix and change the problems. Kids need that public exposure to help them undestand how the REAL WORLD work. Now if you think private schools is the way for your kids than so be it, because that is your right to do what is best for you, but always remember it is INDIVIDUAL NOT THE SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT that really determines the success of a child in school and all things in life. I am going to send my kids to public schools because I was taught alot about alot of things in life by my teachers in public schools.
  9. What do ya'll think about this game? Believe it or not JT didn't look as bad the score indicated in the scrimmage with Longview. JT made alot of forced and unforeced errors all of which can be corrected. JT had the Lobos' secondary on their heels and put up some good passing yards. Yes JT should played alot better, but LV is a GOOD team with some very solid players and was competitive IMO. JT still has some ways to go in execution and defensive containment. JT is in better spot than last year team. Texas High is another very solid team who IMO is one of the best teams in east Texas. The Lobos gave JT alot of tough things to work on and that is what scrimmages are for- to find out your strengths and weaknesses. I think JT will be alot better prepared mentally for this game. BTW, I have heard some of Texas High's players are hurt. Is this true? If so hate to hear that. The Texas high game is going to really show if JT has made any strides or not.
  10. I was at the JT/LV scrimmage as well. IMO, Longview is going to be a BEAST in 4A no arguement here. They have alot of speed and VERY well coached. JT had ALOT of mental errors and miscues but LV definitely was ready to play. With that said, JT competed very well with them at times. LV scored 2 easy forced TDs that groke the game wide open. JT had a VERY hard time containing their option keepers by Aaron Johnson. JT had some critical breakdowns in coverage in the secondary and on play-action by the Lobos in general. JT stiffened late in the scrimmage and played them even. JT will DEFINITELY have work out some things mentally. JT had too many bad snaps. I give alot credit to JT's junior QB Jeremy Johnson and JT's WR core. They played hard and never gave up. JT had well over 200 yards passing against the Lobo secondary. Give credit were it is due and the Lobos WILL be one the ELITE teams in the state regardless of class.
  11. I know most of the people on this board are 4a and smaller school fans, but here are some scrimmages that will be interesting to follow: 1. John Tyler vs. Longview 2. Mesquite vs. Plano 3. Euless Trinity vs. Dallas Carter 4. Tyler Lee vs. San Marcos 5. Lufkin vs. Beaumont Westbrook They are all this Saturday. What are ya'lls thoughts on them?
  12. John Tyler's Preseason Schedule: Texas high-home Lufkin-away Arlington Lamar-away Wichita Falls Rider-home Lewisville-away Very competitive preseason schedule. There is a lot of GOOD teams in both 5A and 4A. I look forward to the Texas High game and Lufkin as well. TH gave JT alot of home cooking in Texarkana last year and I see a much better game than last year's abortion. JT was extremely young last year and had a new head coach at the time. I don't see a 38-7 game this year.
  13. Who are the teams that will be there this year? I know JT, Lee, Marshall, AM Consolidated, and Whitehouse will be there. Thanks for the info.
  14. Here are some scores: JT A-33 Jacksoville A-21 JT B-31 Whitehouse B-34 JT A-39 Lindale A-6 REL A-19 Jacksonville-38 REL A-13 Lindale A-20 JT A team was the dominant team of the day. Whitehouse is going to be a very competitve team now and into the future. Their B team qb looked good out there. REL was missing some of their players and looked AWFUL most of the day without them. JT right now looks to be the team to beat in the league this year. I can definitely see JT qualifying in a SQT in these coming weeks. Lee will be alot better once they get their real starters out there. It starts back up on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
  15. It has been awhile since I have been on this site. Anyway, I have found out that the Trinity Mother Frances 7-on7 football league will start on this coming Monday. I don't know if all of the teams from last year will be there or not, but I think they will be mainly the same people. The only game that I know of is JT vs. Whitehouse at 5:30pm. I got my info from a JT player. 7-on-7 is fun to watch and gives high school football addicts like myself a quick fix until the fall. JT will be pretty good in 7-on7 and very competitve in the Fall.
