  4. It would've been even worse had the Riverkings not only got to the Finals but won the Cup.
  5. Last summer, the CHL agreed to the playoff system where the top losing seed in the first round of the playoffs would advance to the second round. The CHL can change their playoff system each summer and hopefully they do this year cause it just totally defeats the purpose of a playoff team. But either way, the Mudbugs were hit by it as Memphis lost in the first round to Oklahoma City and went on to defeat the Bugs in the next round.
  6. Shreveport Times Link Mudbugs turn corner on successful decadeFranchise faces tough test to maintain love affair with fans Ten down, but how many more to go? With an average of 5,538 fans per game, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs ranked 20th for all minor professional hockey teams in the United States, according to Arena Digest magazine. The Oklahoma City Blazers, a fellow Central Hockey League team, finished No. 1 on the list with an average of 8,902 fans. After the Blazers came five American Hockey League teams. The top East Coast Hockey League team was the Stockton Thunder (6,780, No. 10 on the list). The Mudbugs' attendance fell nearly 2 percent (102 fans) from 2005-06, the first drop from the prior season since the 2002-03 campaign. However, this season's number still represents the second-highest attendance figure in team history. "Prior to the season, a miniscule portion of the fans were saying some of the players shouldn't have come back. There wasn't that warm and fuzzy feeling as there was in years past," co-owner John Madden said. "But the Abbotts (Chris and Cam), the Oris (Joe) and Pegoraros (Daniel) showed what they are made of and I hope to have all of them back." The 2006-07 was the Mudbugs' 10th season, a benchmark number for minor-league organizations. Madden refuses to believe the slight attendance drop represents a plateau in this fickle market. "It might be, but I'm never personally satisfied if you can't keep increasing it," Madden said. "Of course there has to a point where it levels off, or has a slower growth, but I don't think it's there yet." The Mudbugs helped lead the CHL to the best overall average attendance in Double-A hockey. League president Brad Treliving says the Mudbugs' ability to continue to grow over the years is rare and impressive. "When you get to 10 years and beyond it gets back to three things I believe," Treliving said. "One: Their success has been there first and foremost because they have a wonderful, passionate fan base. "Two: They've had stable ownership that allows and put a priority on selling and looking after their customers, putting the right people in place and prioritizing their efforts from a sales and marketing standpoint. "Three: Their staff that has gone out and produced. It's not just a matter of opening the doors, it's a matter of going out and being proactive, selling their product, engaging our fans proactive rather than waiting for the fans to show up at the rink." Treliving says future success with have much to do with the Mudbugs "reinventing" themselves. Madden agreed and added another crucial component to the success of the franchise. "It will depend on the diligence of the staff and the quality of the team Musky (head coach Scott Muscutt) puts on the ice," Madden said. Ahh, winning — perhaps the most important reason for success in this community. Winning is something Mudbugs have never had a problem with. They have never had a losing season and advanced to the playoffs in nine of 10 seasons. The team won three straight championships beginning in 1999 and has advanced to the President's Cup Finals in two of the past four seasons. Consequently, the Mudbugs have enjoyed tremendous success in a town that has spit out several minor-league organizations in various sports over the past 15 years. "They aren't just a team in town, they are the town's team," Treliving said. Statistically, the 2006-07 campaign was the best in team history. Bossier-Shreveport's 44-14-6 record helped capture the Governor's Cup, an award given to the CHL team with the best regular-season record. The success on the ice helped offset massive changes in the front office. The Mudbugs employed almost an entirely new sales staff for 2006-07, saw a swap between corporate and ticket sales managers and the loss of longtime franchise member (player and front office) Tim Hill. "There were some uncharted waters in the office no doubt and possibly some unrest," Madden said. The fan base got a scare after the 2007 playoffs came to a premature end. The Mudbugs lost to Memphis, the CHL's new "mulligan team," in the second round and Madden pondered selling the franchise. Much to the delight of the fans, Madden reconsidered and looks forward to increased success — on and off the ice. "Looking back, I didn't know what our potential was when I purchased the team (2002)," Madden said. "What has surprised me was increase in the attendance year after year after year. However, I'm not satisfied with status quo and I'm looking to increase again this year."

  20. http://www.dallasstars.com/homeNewsDetail.jsp?id=9420 Stars Re-Sign Krys Barch to One-Year DealFRISCO, Tex. – Dallas Stars General Manager Doug Armstrong announced today that the club has re-signed right wing Krys Barch to a one-year deal ($475,000) for the 2007-08 season. “Krys is a hard-nosed player who plays with an edge and did a good job for our hockey club last season,” said Armstrong. “We will look for him to continue to improve his game and make impacts for our organization next year.” Barch, 26, appeared in 26 games this past season with the Stars, registering three goals and two assists for five points with 107 penalty minutes. Two of his three goals proved to be game-winners during his first career NHL season. The 6-2, 200-pound right wing collected his first career multi-point game on Feb. 23 vs. Anaheim (1-1-2). He also appeared in 31 games with Iowa this season, recording three goals and five assists for eight points with 110 penalty minutes. Originally signed as a free agent by the Stars on July 18, 2006, Barch skated in 43 games for Iowa in 2005-06, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points, to go along with a team-high 129 penalty minutes. He also appeared in all seven of Iowa’s Calder Cup Playoff games, posting an assist and 27 penalty minutes. The native of Guelph, Ont., has appeared in 224 career AHL games over parts of seven seasons, notching 25 goals and 41 assists for 66 points with 444 penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Washington in the fourth round (106th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
