  1. Fundamental. They have a very quick guard that can pass the ball well, and another guard that is pretty solid on the drive. #23 I believe is their best shooter, but I have never seen him really drive or do anything else in the games that I have watched. They have good size inside, but not what I would call a dominant post. They do not have the athletes that Dangerfield had on Friday, but they do have some solid basketball kids.
  2. Colby has done a great job all year long. The team showed a lot of toughness Friday night, and have all season long. It’s Going to be a good game Tuesday night.
  3. Pretty sure they have been without their best player and leading scorer for a few weeks now due to injury. I believe he will be back soon, but I could be wrong on that.
  4. I have a kid that is looking for an AAU/Summer league team for this summer. He was suppose to play with a team located in Houston, but long story short, it fell through. I know this is a little last minute, but figured I would post here and see if anyone knew of anyone seeking a player to fill their roster for the summer. A little specifics, he will be a senior next year, about 6'3, a combo guard, and has been on Varsity since his Freshman year. Willing to travel to play on a team as I know there are not many, if any, East Texas based teams. If anyone knows of anyone, or needs more specifics, feel free to PM me. Thanks in advance.
  5. Good coach, even better person. Lindale made a great hire in my opinion.
  6. Anyone have details on the winona over arp upset?

  8. Doesn't say anything about it on their website. It says they'll be at ft bend Travis that day.
  9. Seems like they've played this one pretty close to the chest or the AD already had someone picked out. I didn't realize they'd be down the next few years? I grew up in East Texas and it was very rare for Tatum to ever have a down year in basketball. I'm not doubting you by any means, I don't have a clue about next years roster, it's just crazy to hear.
  10. Anyone have any inside information on who the front runners are for this job? I'd assume it has received a lot of interest.
  11. Yes, same family. The father coaches at Bowie now I believe.
  12. Great coach that cares about his kids. I wish him the best of luck in the future.
  13. I hate to be that guy, but that was one of the worst officiated games I've seen and for it to be the National Title game is ridiculous. Higgins is always terrible and has been for years, I have no idea how he was picked to call last nights game. After Jenkins picked up his 2nd foul, and it easily could of been his third, they didn't call another foul on Nova for what seemed like forever. Nova is a jump shooting team while Carolina does their damage in the paint and Nova was much much more physical than Carolina. Arcidiacno (sp) slapped and hit every time his man had the ball and they still haven't called it but on the other end Joel James is playing straight up defense in the post and gets called for some ticky tack on the floor foul. At the end of the first half, Jackson gets hammered on a fast break lay-up for a no call and Nova comes down and hits a shot at the buzzer which makes it a four point swing. They missed a ton of travels on Nova, including one when it's 70-69 with 5 seconds on the shot clock and Hicks ends up getting called for a VERY weak foul. Now on the other side, Nova hit some very very tough, contested shots. Low percentage shots in the 2nd half that went in. You can't take that away from them, they did make the plays. They also hit some uncontested shots because of their high ball screen and Carolina's inability to hedge or get around the screen. And Carolina went on a long drought in the 2nd half and put themselves in a hole by not scoring. Regardless, I don't think the better team won last night. Just my opinion. That last play, Villanova made the right play by leaving it for the inbounder trailing the play who was left unguarded and Jenkins hit a tough, deep 3. Big shot because if that game goes to overtime, Carolina had all of the momentum. Also, after hearing the press conference from Roy Williams, I have to say he's one of the classiest coaches out there and you can tell how much he cares about his kids and how much he hurt for them last night. Compare his reaction to Coach K's after losing to Oregon. And keep in mind this is the national championship his team just lost on a last second 3. Still a great ending to the tournament. Back to back big 3's. I don't know if there has ever been a better ending to a National Championship. To me, this was even better than the Kansas comeback in 2008 when Chalmers hit the big 3 to send the game to overtime against Memphis.
  14. I'm tied for 19th in the group with 910. I have UNC winning it all. OU really let me down in my bracket. I had them moving onto the championship to face Carolina. Nova has surprised me though, I honestly didn't think they were that good the few times I watched them play earlier this year. The good news is last time they made a final four, it was Carolina who ended their run back in 2009. I'm hoping the Tar Heels can do it again. The only thing that worries me is Roy Williams coached teams give up a lot of open 3 pointers. Nova won't get many 2nd chance opportunities but if they're on like they were against OU, they won't need them. I'm hoping for a good, close, high scoring game.
  15. I'm sitting at 740 with 640 PPR. I think I'm tied for 40th in this group on ESPN. I have UNC and OU in the championship with UNC pulling it out. I originally had Cal making the deep final four run but changed it the day the tournament started when I found out their PG broke his hand. Glad I did but even if he didn't break his hand, the way Brown was playing probably meant an early exit for Cal anyway. Baylor and West Virginia making early exits killed my bracket for the most part. I guess I had too much faith in the Big 12 teams.
  16. My final four- UNC- They could easily have trouble with Kentucky and lose. Kentucky is a tough match-up for UNC but if they play like they did in the ACC tournament, they'll be fine. What's killed them, besides Roy at times (2nd half of the Duke game at home for example) , has been Paige in a huge slump. I expected him, like everyone else, to be the leader and what makes the team go and at the very least be a consistent threat from the outside. He's still a leader and if his senior night speech is any indication, a great kid, but he's struggled this season. If he gets it going in the tournament and everyone else plays like they have been, I don't think anyone will be able to play with them. Big If though. Oklahoma- I know, I know, they're a jump shooting team and one cold night could have them bounced from the tournament by almost anyone. However, I think they're set up with a favorable bracket and have the easiest number 1 seed out of anyone. I'm just not sold on Oregon and actually have Baylor beating them in the Elite 8. Baylor could just as easily get knocked out by Yale in the first round with Scott Drew coaching but I'm taking a chance and going with them. After they beat Yale, they'll run into a Duke team with no inside presence that likes to jack up 3's. Baylor's length of their zone will hurt Duke. Grayson Allen is a tough kid but watch the tape of when Duke played Kentucky early in the year and that's the type of performance I'm expecting to see from him against Baylor. Baylor played Oregon early in the year to 7 points at Oregon and in that game, Prince had one of the worst offensive games he's had this season if not the worst. I fully expect Baylor to be able to pull the upset on a neutral floor. Back to OU, they have an easy match-up until the A&M/Texas/UNI game. Texas actually had Oklahoma beat both times they played but the game in OU, the refs took over late and then Buddy hit some big shots. Any of the three would be a tough game but I think OU would win. California- I surprised myself with this pick because I never have any respect for Pac 12 teams not named Arizona. My reasoning is this. Except 2008, and even then Kansas wasn't really a favorite to win the whole thing and in all honesty could have easily lost to Davidson in the Elite 8, Bill Self has underachieved with his teams and I'm not sold on this years team. I think California has the tools with Brown and Rabb to knock off Kansas and win that region. They'll have a tough game against Maryland, who has top 5 talent, but for whatever reason has underachieved this year. If they can get past them I think they beat Kansas. Might be a stretch but I think they get it done. Michigan St- Probably a popular pick but it makes sense to me. I'm not sold on Virginia or anyone else in that bracket. Valentine has been solid all season long and Izzo always seems to make it to the final four or the elite 8 every season. The way his bracket is set up there's no reason for him to not continue that trend. I also have Wichita St. in the elite 8 and Gonzaga in the sweet 16. My biggest upset pick is Fresno St. over Utah. We'll see. Looking forward to the games today.

  18. Great game tonight. Your kids are a class act and well coached. Good luck to y'all in the playoffs.
  19. Depends... Comparing records, yes, but talent wise, I believe Sabine is just as good if not better. Jefferson is very long and athletic, but they get lazy and complacent too much in the games I've watched. Gore is a very solid player but outside of him, they don't have anyone else that I'd consider a "basketball" player. Sabine outplayed them in Jefferson in my opinion, just shot the ball as bad as they've shot all year. I believe they were 3-25 from behind the arc and many of them were uncontested shots. Free throw percentage that night was awful as well. Too much to overcome in that game but that's how it goes some nights. Last night Sabine hit at least 9 treys and really played some great defense. Jefferson went to the box and 1 at times and that really opened up some things and the kids stepped up and knocked down some big shots. I was proud of the Cardinals for their effort last night. Congrats on the district championship, you guys have a great group of kids from what I've seen. I'm looking forward to watching the battle on Friday night at your place. Hoping our kids play with the same fire they did last night.
  20. 05 was the year they won state, but were solid both years. I believe they lost to a pretty good Chapel Hill teams in the playoffs in 04. 05, I think their only losses were to Ponder in the Whataburger tournament and to Bullard at Bullard in district play. Brandon Roberts is still one of the best point guards I've gotten to watch in East Texas. Hated to see him have to battle injuries throughout college.
  21. I'm probably a bit biased but I'd say the Sabine girls when they were coached by Eddie Shawn. 546 wins over 26 seasons, averaging out to 21 wins a season. 23 playoff appearances, 11 district championships. Not for sure on regional tournaments, but lost on a last second shot in the regional finals one year.
  22. Have only seen Kountze play twice, and they looked the same both times. Very quick, very athletic, but outside of the PG, no one could shoot. They took some very tough shots last night and just couldn't knock them down. The FR PG, just like I said after seeing him against White Oak, kid is a great player. Like many have already said, he's only going to get better from this point. The 4th quarter, it looked like the coach put the ball in his hands and told him to take over. He did what he could, missed some shots that I'm sure he normally hits, but I have a feeling the Tatum defense being physical with him all night was the reason for those misses. Just like Kountze, this was the 2nd time I've seen Tatum play. Last night, I was impressed by the intensity they played with and how well they blocked out on every shot. The one negative about them, FREE THROW SHOOTING. I think I saw they shot 12-25 last night. I feel like they've got to shoot better than that if they want to get out of the region. Garrett played a heck of a 2nd half last night. It looked like he came out of half time and was on a mission. No clue what Carr said to them at the half, but it worked. That being said, Congratulations to Tatum on a great win last night. Was happy to see the East Texas team pull it out, especially after all I had read from the people of Kountze on the board that whoever was 2nd out of that district would have an early round exit from the playoffs. I also think the depth of Tatum played a big part in the game last night. Tatum subbed in and out all game long, looked fresh at all times, and when they subbed, they don't really lose anything. I fully expect, like most people, for them to meet up with White Oak next Saturday for a shot at state. Should be another classic that I can't wait to watch.
  23. Glad to see you're still posting on here. Will you be making it out to Angelina for either of these games?
  24. That's why I said this is based off seeing one game. I'm sure they have a lot of people score a lot against teams they play because their pressure defense is going to lead to easy lay ups all game long against teams that can't handle the ball very well. Based off the game I saw, and it looks like their shooters were just off from what you're saying, the only guy that could really hit any type of jumper on a regular basis was the PG. Now I do agree with you he doesn't have to score to be effective because he made some great passes last night as well and made plays all night long. Like I said, the kids a hell of a player. I'm not sure if you took my post as a slight against Kountze because it wasn't, they're a heck of a good team. It was just my opinion off seeing them play one game.
