  1. Not only my numbers are off ..... my math is horrible ! You are correct !
  2. In 4A Division 1 and Region 1..... you have a total of 26 teams in that region. 24 of those teams will make the playoffs no matter their record. THREE OF THE FOUR DISTRICTS have only 4 teams in their district. I understand the vastness of West Texas but this is where 4 teams in the playoffs are a little much.
  3. You are certainly entitled to your guess but if you are basing that on the posts of some Henderson "fans" on this website then you are as dumb as they are. Phil Castles is one outstanding football coach, a great leader/role model for young men, and a man of deep character. These people in Henderson know and understand that we have a special person leading our young men in football as well as teaching them about life. To say that he is on the hot seat here is absurb and has no validity. He has run a great program here and everywhere he has been with great success. Just as you and other posters are proud of Coach Surratt, his program, and your team's success; we here in Henderson are as well with the job Coach Castles has done. Certainly each of us would like to win another state championship (or more) but we are not going to judge Coach Castles performance & success on several losses to Carthage in the past couple of years. For those that promote such thinking are short-sighted and narrow minded. You, with as much as you seem to know about high school football, should at least recognize the great competition this coach has put on the field to battle your Dogs these past 6 years he has been in Henderson.
  4. Good assessment. I never posted this but I felt the Center game was a trap game. #1 Center came in to play knowing that this could be their ticket into the playoffs and they played really hard. #2 Henderson was coming off a emotional loss to Kilgore . #3 Trae Hall was hurt and the coaches chose not to use his running skills in the first half in an effort to keep him healthy. #4 The Lion offensive line did not have a good game and the RB's did not run hard enough in my opinion. Additionally, although Henderson won the game against Center it was one the coaches/players did not feel good about since they had not performed up to their ability as a team. I agree with you about how hard Henderson played against Bullard..... I think that this brought back that playoff spirit of play that they had against Kilgore. I think it renewed their confidence and helps them as they play a tough Palestine team and head to the playoffs.
  5. I will agree as I don't see Bullard beating Kilgore after seeing Bullard against Henderson. However I do see Palestine having a good chance of beating Henderson. #1 they are extremely athletic and #2 I see Sr. Night more of a distraction than a positive. Plus if Henderson's defense does not stop the run (as in Kilgore game) then it could get interesting. Both teams are well coached. I think Robby Clark has done a great job of getting that program turned around. Phil Castles continues surround himself with great coaches as well after losing 3 great assistants after last season. Castles is a great defensive coach and a superb strategist on that side of the ball. I, as well, am going with Henderson in a tough close ballgame.
  6. Good ananlysis INTENSIFICATION ! With no other upsets(over Carthage, Henderson, or Kilgore) occuring the last 4 weeks Center does have the inside track. Palestine gets in with a win over Chapel Hill and a Bullard loss to Chapel Hill. Center gets in with not winning another game even if Chapel Hill beats Bullard and Palestine. Chapel Hill and Bullard chances hinge on upset of the top three. If that doesn't happen neither of these two go. Obvously one of those 4 must come up with an upset over Carthage, Henderson, or Kilgore to give them a chance to make the playoffs. On paper that doesn't appear that this will happen. But one must remember anyone can be beat on any given night as in last year's game Kilgore vs. Center. A lot can happen in 4 weeks of football. Turnovers, penalities, weather, injuries, and some times the BEST TEAM just doesn't always win ! A great district to be a part of with some great coaches leading their teams ! Gonna be a great finish !
  7. Good analysis. Here is the point spread at this point if 2 or more teams ended up 2-4. (obviously 2 teams would go by head-to-head score) Bullard +17 with game vs. Chapel Hill this Friday Palestine 0 with game vs. Chapel Hill next Friday Center is -5 with games remaing against the top 3 Chapel Hill is -12 with games against Bullard and Palestine the next two weeks and Carthage in the finale. Obviously any win from these 4 teams against the top 3 (Carthage, Henderson, Kilgore) would give them a greater opportunity to secure a playoff spot.
  8. You are right Stanky.... after putting the numbers down along with the two upsets this past Friday night. The 4th place team will probably have 4 losses. However, although any team can be beat on any given night, I really do not see anyone pulling an upset over Carthage this year. This may be one of the most complete teams they have had over the years and could be one of the best teams ever in Class 4A.
  9. Lion 70 you are wrong here ... If you are saying Chapel Hill loses to Carthage and wins their remaining two games they finish the district with a 2-4 record. And if Center loses every remaining game they both would be 2-4. Along with that Palestine and Bullard would need to lose all remainin games in district play. That would give both Chapel Hill and Center 2-4 records. That would send Center to the playoffs and send Chapel Hill home since Center owns a win over Chapel Hill.
  10. LION 70 ........... Chapel Hill is 0-3 and is dead in the water for a playoff birth. That is "how so" ! They may win the next two but they will end with 4 losses in District. Just don't see any team going in with 4 losses. May be statiscally possible as I have not charted such a scenario but Palestine obviously has the better chance than Chapel Hill.
  11. So '89 was the year that got away ? You were 3-4 years old at the time..... I'm sure you remember a lot about that year ! LOL ... you need to join the fake news broadcast network !!
  12. Someone that donates $1.6 million to 16 students for college scholarships and then an additioanl $4 + to renovation of a football facility...... As in most things you comment on ..... at least get your facts right. The generous gentleman's name is GRADY ASH.
  13. Billy Sims, Hooks High School ........ started 3 years at running back and had 38 consecutive games rushing for 100 yards(or more). Had a playoff game in which he rushed for 381 yards, scored 6 touchdowns. Was not a great shooter but played above the rim in basketball. Had to be the best athlete in the history of the school.
  14. This game will be over before halftime if the Dogs contain the QB. Additionally North Forest has not played the schedule that Carthage has..... even if they are in within 2 TD's at half.... it will only get worse in the 2nd half.
  15. Barbers Hill is known for both athletics and academics over the years.... has been in the top five highest paying school district for teachers for over 40 years. I coached there for 10 years in middle 70's and early 80's. Has excellent facilities. An area that is continuing to grow and probably will be 6A in the next 6-8 years. One of those schools that if you are employed there it makes it hard to leave. Probably not seen in the last several years in football but there is great tradition there ......as well as other sports both in boys and girls. School is located near I-10 in the small town of Mont Belvieu (8 miles north of Baytown).
