  1. Best I ever coached was in 2002 at Woden. In the Regional Semi-Finals at TJC, we came back from 12 down in the last minute and a half to beat Clarksville at the buzzer 63-62. That team had some close calls. Beat Franklin 67-64 in OT in Area. Beat San Augustine 74-72 in Reg Quarters and then beat Clarksville at the buzzer.
  2. Congrats to Chris Cochran. Great Coach and a better man.
  3. Congrats to Troup and Grapeland for winning State Championships in Mens Golf. New Diana also had a great showing placing 4th and several individuals did well at State.
  4. I don't voice my opinion much on Smoaky but this fires me up. I have known the Tatum coach his entire career and have had the pleasure of coaching against him many times. Nobody gets their kids to play harder. Both he and his asst bring a wealth of knowledge to the game and have had great success in every program in which they have been involved. Tatum will be a force again very soon with their great leadership. I really can't stand people that bash coaches that dedicate their life, not just a career, to building character in young men and women in a community. Keep up the good work Coach.
  5. I've been coaching for 20+ years and have had several very successful teams and have never found it necessary to curse a STUDENT athlete. First and foremost, we are professional educators responsible for teaching young men and women whether we are in the classroom or in an athletic venue. Now I have chewed some kids out before and I don't think that anybody that played for me will ever say that I was "easy" on them but there is no need to curse at a student in order to correct, teach, or motivate him or her. I don't curse at my own child and I am surely not going to curse at someone else's.
  6. Sounds like my former school at Woden. In fact, the guy who took over the Supe job at Cushing signed on for a short period of time as the High School Asst. Principal at Woden. Same scenario. New SB comes in and several positions change including the Supe, the JH and HS Principals, Curr. Dir., Business Manager, Basketball coach, Baseball coach, Softball coach and several really good teachers. A lot of turnover at a school that usually has none.
  7. Wow, congrats to Coach Dawkins or should I say to Brook Hill. They made a great hire and WH loses a man that wil be really difficult to replace.
  8. Woden 10 - EF 7 in 8 innings
  9. Anybody know who won this series?
  10. Congrats to Coach Buchanan and his girls. He is a class act and is very deserving of this experience. What is really scary is that this team is very young and it may just be the first of several trips to Austin. Best of luck from the Eagles up north of you. Love to see our district teams do well.
  11. Chad was the basketball coach at Eustace in 97 when we played them at SFA in a warm-up game. Had that Beasley kid that was such a good player. Since then he has been on a meteoric rise. Reportedly, he is getting around $105,000 per year, no AD duties, plus housing and car allowence. Sweet deal. Congratulations Coach Morris.
  12. The Bias kid from Central has got to get a lot of consideration for MVP of this district. Not only is he one of if not the best players in the district, he is also the most valuable to his team. There are lots of good players in this district but I think he has more to do with the success of his team than any of the others. How about the race for 3rd place? Incredible. Congratulations to Hudson on their big win at Carthage last night. Now it looks like Center has the toughest road with Crockett left to play. Best of luck to Coach Harrison and the Riders. Hopefully, all three teams will win out and have to play each other for the last playoff spot.
  13. Best of luck to Coach Dawkins and the Cats in their playoff run. Sure would like to see you guys play in Austin.
  14. I don't have a connection to either of these teams but I can explain the tie breaker situation to you. Unless there is a specific tie break situation written into the district minutes, the district is required to go by the rules specified in the UIL Constitution. Many district elect to do this, ours included. The UIL Constitution does not allow for coin flips, they require that all ties be resolved by playing a game. Also, if there is a provision in the district minutes that a coin flip can be used to resolve a tie, then it has to be mutually agreed upon by BOTH schools. If one team wants to play it off, then they have to play the game. Hope this helps clear up the situation.
  15. Last I heard, he was the golf coach at Lufkin HS.
  16. We played just about everyone in that district and although I knew it was going to be a very competitive race, I really thought that Diboll would be in the hunt for a playoff spot. No surprise that Crockett and Carthage are tied for the top spot. Both very athletic and well coached.
  17. Loper can flat out coach. He does not get enough credit for the job that he does year in and year out at Frankston. IMO
  18. Newton is 7-0 in district. They are very good. Not saying that they can beat Arp but I do believe that they match up with them pretty well. Real athletic, good size and they can really run the floor.
  19. Check out this link. I think they have all the scores. http://www.lufkindailynews.com/sports/cont...orts/index.html
  20. No, he is at Commerce, I believe.
  21. It would definitely be a great job to have. Made it to the Regional Finals last year and return the best point guard in this area. He can be unstoppable. Coach Claiborne did a great job at Teneha and always gets the most out of his players. Congrats on the move and I hope you find as much success at your new home.
  22. Congratulations to the Lady Devils and their 1-0 victory over EF.
  23. That's good to hear for Coach Martin. I would think that John Tyler would be interested in looking at him to fill that vacancy also. Lots of pressure in that SLC job, not a situation for just anyone and the Dallas area schools have a reputation of hiring Dallas area coaches to fill high profile vacancies. Whatever the case, Coach Martin does a great job, comes from a real good basketball background and will do a good job wherever he works. Best of luck, Coach.
