  2. I am not saying it is a negative to have a turf field. I am saying the argument that it pays for itself is a fallacy.... and the cost for upkeep to a natural field nowhere approaches the total cost and upkeep for a turf field over the same time period. I worked up playoff game reports for a school district for 10 years and know that we as a district got very little to no financial benefit from hosting games in our stadium. Sometimes, the gate would not be enough to cover the expenses and I would have to invoice the 2 schools to ensure that we did not lose money. The plus side of playing on a better surface every game is true. Additionally, the extra revenue that businesses get from visiting people frequenting their establishment during a playoff game does not get passed on the district at all. The only way a school district would benefit would be if the restaurant poured in capital to the building itself so that the appraisal went up, resulting in an increase in property tax revenue. School districts receive NO sales tax revenue.... only cities, counties, special districts and the state of Texas.
  3. Concession sales usually go to the groups that run the concession stands (booster clubs, etc.), not the school. Ticket revenue is split between the UIL (16% of gross gate), and the two schools playing there after paying for officials, not the neutral host school. The money the businesses in town receive stay with them... school districts do not receive funding from sales taxes and school property taxes the businesses pay are based on the value of the buildings, not sales.
  4. The bid to redo the track and football field was $560,908. I know some portion of this was for the track, but since I do not know the exact amounts, I will use the total bid amount. If Crockett uses the same rental fee that Rose Stadium in Tyler does ($2,000), it will take over 280 playoff games over the life of the turf to pay for itself. The Field Turf company puts an 8 year warranty on their fields and proclaims that some last as long as 13 years. So you will have to have 35 playoff games each year for 8 years or 22 playoff games each year for 13 years to cover the total installation costs. In addition, the rental fees that districts charge also pay for things such as utilities and other miscellaneous costs, so these game figures would actually have to be higher to say that playoff games will pay for the installation of turf football fields. The same thing can be said for turf baseball and softball fields. They are not costs that will be totally absorbed by playoff rental fees and amounts saved on maintenance and watering of natural grass fields.

  6. Rusk High School to Pittsburg High School - 96 miles / Rusk High School to Eagle Stadium -152 miles / Pittsburg High School to Eagle Stadium -115 miles Will have to sell a lot of tickets to avoid writing a check to Allen ISD to use their stadium. Eagle Stadium Rental Agreement: Rental Fee: $5000 + 20% of the gross / Allen ISD will pay fees/mileage to Officials along with the 15% UIL fee. If 800 tickets are sold at the gate at the $10 amount they are charging, there will be a $200 profit ($8,000 Gross (800 x $10) - $5,000 Rental - $1,600 Rental (20% of $8,000)- $1,200 UIL (15% of $8,000)) before paying the officials (would be $115 for each official with that amount of gross sales without mileage), which means they would end up each writing a check to play the game. I saw that pregame ticket amounts are $6/Students and $8/adults, so they will probably will have to have over 1,000 tickets sold to break even. Figure they will have more than that, but it is a shame that a lot of fans won't be able to make the trip on Black Friday. Here are comparisons of 2 local stadiums fees: Tyler Rose Stadium - $4,000 + 15% of net (50 miles from Rusk/57 miles from Pittsburg) / Pine Tree Stadium - $2,500 + 15% of gross (63 miles from Rusk /40 miles from Pittsburg)
