  1. No they are not recruited. If you are from Gilmer or have been around Gilmer all the kids that are playing now all their dads played there and they were pretty good themselves. Funny thing is Coach Traylor played with their dads or was in school when they were.
  2. What is the difference in a 10-7 game and a 33-30 game? If you take the safety you are still ahead and a FG beats you. You take the safety and try to get good field position. If you don't there is a chance of a fumble recovery and touchdown or if you fall on it they have great field position for a win. Make the team work on offense to get the FG.
  3. Who is Gilmer have this week? Will it be a game?
  4. I have heard that it is a numbers game. Why would a scout go and watch one guy in east texas when he can go to one area and see several guys in a couple of nights. Now if the guy in east texas is good (example: Peterson) then they will go and see him. It is sad because I think a lot of kids do not get seen for that reason. The good thing is once one player is found at a school the college coach and other colleges tend to remember the school and develop a relationship when it comes to recruiting.
  5. I visit the board often and I read up on all the players and teams in East Texas. Before I post this I am not picking sides here. How do you think the talent in East Texas ranks with the talent in the rest of the state?
  6. Sometimes when you get an offesnse like Gilmer and you are putting up numbers like Gilmer does on offense the offensive coaches start putting a lot of stuff in. They spend a lot of time doing a lot of different things because they can. Not very many offensive coaches get a chance to coach athletes of that caliber so they really open the play book up. What that means is that defensive practice time is cut short. I don't care how good your offense is you win and lose games on the defensive side of the ball. I don't know anything about Gilmer's practice but I have seen a lot of good teams spend a lot more time on offense than they do on defense in practice.
  7. They have had a week off if there was a time to do it this is the time.
  8. Don't forget Kelly the guy they like to throw to is from Longview and another reciever Johnson is from Gilmer. OU knows where the talent pool is.
  9. I like the bye week it lets the bumps and bruises heel and gives coaches a chance to catch their breath. It is not good for the fans but I like it for the players and coaches. I know some say that it gets you out of your rhythm but I don't buy that.
  10. Do you not think there might be some other guys as good as him in the state, or nation??? Remember defense wins championships.
  11. Two dozen hometown boys sitting together at a hometown football game spells a headache for the head coach. Instead of focusing on what the boys are doing good you hear "well back when I played we..." Bottom line is you are not playing. Try to be supportive. That is what those boys want on the field as well as the coaches.
  12. It is easy for you to get on here and say what you would do. Traylor has done an outstanding job since taking over. He has made the Gilmer program one of the best in the state in the last few years. Now I would have hard time second guessing him on any thing he does. I am sure that if he sees that he is going to have to make an adjustment that he will make it. Seems to me when you get to the top you always do something wrong in someones eyes. The fact is he is winning and that is the bottom line.
