  1. What does that mean???? You guess other Carthage folk have no problem saying a team of 15, 16, 17, 18 year olds choke??? I have a huge problem with this statement... Do I think Carthage is unbeatable, NO! Do I think they are almighty, NO! But do I think they are prepared each and every week, YES! Do they make mistakes, YES, and like any good coaching staff they try to build off of and learn from those mistakes. They carry on, and finish strong. They make the best of this test and don't ask why. It's not a question but a lesson learned in time. It's something unpredictable, But in the end it's right. When the final whistle blows they had the time of their lives. We have great kids and great coaches in Carthage!
  2. Sound like words spoken from a Cajun, because only a true COONTobinFrost would eat all those things mentioned. No way, No how, Whitehouse wins big! Does Whitehouse have a good kicker?
  3. Overlook Henderson and you will regret it. It seems as if this is the district that is unpredictable this year, no true front runner. Several teams are capable of pulling off upsets throughout district play. This will be an inserting district to watch from now until the final whistle blows. Best of Luck to you All, and may you All have an injury free district round.
  4. Love this kid... Both on and off the field. That junior class is full of all around awesome kids, great athletes, great hearts, great attitudes, great kids!
  5. No you are in correct! Another person posted "Not until the Secondary gets on track" then I replied to that post.... I believe Coach Surratt is great coach with a Great Coaching Staff. He has a multitude of talented athletes on both sides of the ball. He also is fortunate enough to have a bench which is stacked full of talented athletes. Not many Coaches have that luxury. I was merely stating, don't count him out, because he still has options! By no means, was I trying to be a Monday morning quarterback. I don't second guess a guy that has won 3 state championships.
  6. Are you hating against A&M because they are in a REAL conference now? And it is just a verbal commitment, he hasn't gone on visits to any other colleges as of yet, official or unofficial. He can always change his mind, if LSU or Bama come calling, and why wouldn't he want to play for one of those two teams!!!
  7. I'm sure Surratt will iron the kinks out! Maybe even moving different players over to the secondary like Major Harris or Tyler Musgrove, they are both fast with good hands. Both are just all around good athletes. Move a couple of the juniors from the O line that are playing back up (Harvey & Stevens), rotate them in on the D line for fresh legs. And there you have the real deal.
  8. M Bowman from Carthage is there also. Si has been to Kilgore & Sam Houston - football. ~ Panola - baseball. Not for sure about him redshirting at one, or how his eligibility all works out. But I do know he is a great kid with a great attitude who deserves nothing but the best. Anytime you see him in public he has a smile on his face and he is always willing to help the youth when he is home.
  9. Geez, this thread is out of control with all these crazy wild comments.... But "prepare yals selves very good", expect nothing less from Coach Surratt & Company! He and his staff began preparing Friday night after the Lindale game. Like CH, Carthage also has a very young bunch of kids out there, each week will be a learning and building week. A week to get better than last week, to correct mistakes, learn from them, and get better as players, and as a team. If you lose, you bounce back, this is what defines a true champion. That is what we have in Carthage. I am not going to guarantee a Carthage "beat down" or something crazy like that, but I will guarantee Coach Surratt will have his Dawgs prepared and CH will know they have played one heck of a football team.
  10. 40 years??? I know he has been there since the early 90's. But do you really think he has been coaching the golf and football team since the 70's there in Henderson??? Impressive!!!! Great Job Coach Tanner.
  11. Because High School QB's are a dime a dozen!!! Even good/great ones!!!! If you will look a percentage of the players in the SEC either started or played back up QB during high school. Not including the O or D line. Especially on LSU's roster. For example: Russell Shepard is an American football wide receiver for the LSU Tigers. He attended Cypress Ridge High School. As a senior, the 6-1, 179-pound Shepard rushed for 1,946 yards and 28 touchdowns and threw for 1,843 yards and 20 touchdowns. Shepard was considered the top quarterback of the high school class of 2009 by both Rivals.com and Scout.com before converting to wide receiver upon arriving at LSU. Shepard started his high school career as quarterback. Although Shepard was heavily recruited by Texas and received interests from Florida, Michigan, and USC, he announced his decision to accept a scholarship from Louisiana State University on March 3, 2008. He committed to LSU since he believed he would get the best chance at playing quarterback there. Texas told Shepard that if he didn't win the starting job at quarterback, then he could play other positions. USC likewise found him to be a Reggie Bush-type player in their offense. He graduated in December 2008 to start his college career a semester early. Shepard stated that he intended to learn the team's football system during LSU's spring practices that year. He played in the 2009 Under Armour All-America Game on January 4, 2009. As of March 2009, he was ranked as the #3 Athlete on ESPN150 for the high school class of 2009. He has been compared to Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin by a Scouts, Inc. reporter.
  12. '90 And I know Daniel Hodges pitched the final game to win state. And looking back I don't know if that was possible... If I have the year correct that Years run of the playoffs was as follows: Corsicana (2 games) 7 - 1 & 8 - 7 - Bi-District Waxahachie (3 games) 3 - 2, 4 - 9, & 4 - 3 - Area Paris (2 games) 13 - 7 & 11 - 7 - Region Mt. Pleasant 4 - 0 - Quarter Final Andrews 7 - 1 - Semifinal Robstown 9 - 1 - Final I believe Syrus Henderson pitched some that year as well, but don't know if he pitched during the playoffs. Robin did finish his senior year 15 - 0 & his career at CHS 32 - 2. Nice record.
  13. I believe JayDon Day starts the first game for Carthage Clint Cage the second one.
  14. Not sure why people believe folks from "across the river" (DEADWOOD) are uneduacated, brainless, yoyos??? True Doomer has his own unique way of spelling. I figured it was his "socagee" shorthand he used for texting. I think people don't really understand the true history of those folks from "across the river". Prior to the World War II, which many recognized as inevitable, Dwight D. Eisenhower and George Patton established headquarters in Deadwood and ran exercises in the nearby Sabine River bottoms. In the days of World War II, several local young men were called to duty. In its heyday, Deadwood supported 3 general stores, a café, a barber shop and a dance hall. However, after World War II, returning service men trained under the GI Bill, gave up farming for more lucrative city jobs. Also, at this time, the local cotton crops were hit hard by the boll weevil infestation and Deadwood shrunk in population. Today, a popular sign states that Deadwood has 108 happy people—and one old grouch. (Not for sure who the old grouch is!) Their community has a very rich history and they are a very close group of neighbors always willing to help one another. Because they can't have a pizza delieverd to their house has nothing to do with their intelligence!!! Some of the smartest people I have ever known have come from "across the river".
  15. Oh, she was hotter than a two dollar pistol she was the fastest thing around Long and lean every young man's dream She turned every head in town She was built and fun to handle, Son, I'm glad that you walked in She reminds me of the one I loved back then Just for you Doomer!!
  16. Oh geez, a mod on the board, just like the email board. Right when the getting is good.... Dang, dang, dang!!!! We have Rat Backers for Beckville Coaches calling people IDIOTS - classy Beckvilliots speaking truths - greatness Then bam out of no where RED LETTERS SHOW UP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN!!!!
  17. Aaawwww Doomer I see your location is Deadwood, I thought surely you would be a Rat Backer!!!
  18. From Carthage My vote is for Rodney "Rat" Bagley PURE GREATNESS!!! I think he can turn everything around or upside down in Beckville and not care who he offends while doing it!!!! But I will say this on his behalf... I have known him my entire life and he will put each and everyone of those kids first! And if you want an outstanding football program well... He would do an excellent job!!!
  19. I have been reading Smoaky.com for years and as you can see from my post count, I don't post very often. The problem with people posting comments is you never know their tone. The problem living in small towns is rumors spread like wildfires. That kid from Carthage has a name! Jaylon Allison - He has been enrolled in Beckville High Scool since January. As an Administrator, Coach, Teacher, Parent, Teammate, and/or Friend you should be PROUD to get someone of his caliber in your school system. If this means once again Beckville is back to depending on Carthage kids, embrace it don't hate it! Because in the end they are just that KIDS! And yes they READ Smoaky.com also!!! Promote what you LOVE, don't BASH what you hate!!!
  20. Are you drunk??? Or did you fall and hit your head and become delusional??? SH may, heavy on the may part, win Monday night, but all the BS rambling you do did in your post, just pure nonsense!!!
  21. I'm thinking if this can be verified... Then the proof is in the pudding, since Phiillip pitched a Perfect Game today for the White Sox! But either way, this should be a coach that ANY high school is thrilled to get.
