  1. I am reading all of these comments about the program and where it was before Mathis got to Marshall. Did anyone in Marshall ask questions to Harper about why he left what he had built leaving family, life-time friends, and a job that he had wanted all of his life according to what I have read, Not wanting to stir an old pot but I have wondered about this.
  2. When I was young, my wise parents taught me a thing or two about life; one of those was to be sure and remember that "what goes around, comes around". I am watching the show play out. I read with interest all the praise heaped on your present head coach about winning a district championship...wow...who did he have to beat? And how many rounds was that in the playoffs last fall? I've followed East Texas football for years. The remarks made on this site about "his program" indicate that Harper didn't have a program in place when he left. If a coach can come in at the end of March--no spring ball and clean up "the mess" without a full staff on board--then he can get a job anywhere. As has been previously posted. did anyone of you "diehard Maverick fans" ever question Harper about why he was leaving? Check his record of tenure in his other coaching positions--seven years in Leander, four years in Baytown, five years in Jacksonville. Why so short in his home town with deep roots--a former Maverick, family there--but apparently not many loyal friends. Sitting back watching this merry-go-round and wondering if tickets are being sold for the circus!
  3. Finally, someone on here made a profound statement..."the only mistake Marshall made was letting the new Sup jack with Harper. That domino caused the rest to fall." Where were you loyal Maverick fans when this was happening? Did any of you show concern over this? I've known Coach Clint Harper for most of his coaching career--a class act in leadership, great example for any young man to follow. Ask the young men that he has coached over the years. Marshall's loss--Duncanville's gain.
  4. I think the newspapers article must have left out a word or two in listing Coach Southern's record at Marshall; the Mavs went to the State Championship game but never won the state championship under Southern. And since someone was quick to point out the team record prior to his arrival(that being 5-5), Marshall Mavericks were still playing 5-A ball against Lufkin, Longview, Lee, etc. I hope this is not a post that comes across as negative, just a post to set the record straight.
