  1. To answer the original questions: 1. As was stated earlier, the suits and wraps were intended for safety. The knee and wrist wraps are obvious, but the bench shirt was intended to help support the bar/weight on the chest until the judges says "press" since the bar has to come to a complete rest before being pressed up. The singlet was thin material, like used in high school wrestling, but has evolved in to something completely different. 2. Yes there is are more powerlifting organizations than the THCSA/THSWPA and some of them do have unsupported or "raw" divisions that allow only a wrestling style singlet and a weight belt. USA Powerlifting is one of these groups and they also drug test 10% of all lifters at every invitational, state and national meet
  2. Go Rebels Several years ago, I coached at OC and we went to ND and played them for Homecoming. They were picked to win by a lot. That game turned out to be one of my favorite memories of OC. At the end of the game it was tied 0-0, at the end of the 1sr OT it was 0-0, 2nd OT 6-6, 3rd OT 12-6 OC won. Since then I coached in many great games including a state championship game but that game in ND is one of my best memories ever. A group of kids that were not suppose to win played their hearts out and pulled an upset. On any given Friday night you never know what’s going to happen, play every play with heart and character and good things happen. Good Luck Rebels
  3. I know I'm a homer but most dominant team ever was the early '70s teams of Big Sandy From 1971 to 1975: Over all record: 64-1-1 3 State Championships Total points scored: 2932 (44.4 per game) Total Opponent scored: 127 (1.9 per game)
  4. You are right Coachrmc, its very hard. I been teaching AP Chem, Chem and, Physics and I forgot about all the earth science with the rock cycles and earth and moon cycles and other stuff. Good luck Frontrunner
  5. Review any Biology, Chemistry and Physics books you can get. You will have to be able to do algerbra to solve the stoichiometry and gas laws in chemistry. Go over the atom, electron configuration and, reactions. You will use algerbra and geometry to work the physics problems. Remember linear motion at angles use degrees and circular motion is in radians. Biology is lots of facts to memorize. Go over cell organization, DNA. transcription, translation, heredity, taxonamy, ecolcgy, food webs. If you have a science background its not to bad, if not, you better study your butt off.
  6. RIP Coach Little, you were my coach, teacher, but most importantly you were my friend. Thanks for all that you have done for me and the way you have been a positive influence on my life. As you know, I'm a coach and science teacher now and I can only hope to be half as good as you were. As we have discussed before it’s not all about wins or loses on the fields or state championships (glad you finally got one), it’s about having a positive impact in the lives of others. You had a very large impact on my life; I would not be where I'm at if not for you. Thanks and my God comfort you family at this time.
  7. This year we are going to be vertically challenged but we will make up for it by being weak and slow. :( Our best point for football this year is that we have not started yet.
  8. 1A DII State Champs Fall City Beavers Beavers defeated the Trojans for the title
  9. Windthorst Trojans Trojans are 9-1, just goes to show 9 out of 10 times you can't break a Trojan  By the way, just what is a Mogul?
  10. Prayer are need for Adam Smith (#53) a Soph. at Archer City HS. He collasped during practice Tuesday. Doctors said he has had a stroke on both sides of the brain. Currently he in critical condition at Cook's Children Hospital in Ft Worth. His dad is the AD/HC at Archer City. We as a sport family across this state need to pray for the young man and is family. I grew up and have coached in East Texas and I know that y'all will lift this family up. Thanks
  11. I must agree. Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Ron harper,... were crazy for their Breaksfast Club Workouts. They all went to Jodans's house and did an early morning weight workout before practices and on game days. Yes, they did a weight workout on game days, just imagine how good they would have been if they didn't workout on game days. They might have won a champoinship or two. Oh wait, they won 6 championships. Well, I'm big enough to admitt when I'm wrong, maybe game day weight workouts are ok, it worked for the Bulls
  12. The community should have the sports they want no matter how people on the outside feel. I want my school to have football. Great thing freedom, being able to decide for youself what you want. But, the Brock vote was more than football vs basketball, it was also the money. 2 years ago, Brock passed a bond to upgrade their schools and with the economy the way it is, lots of people didn't want a second bond that close to the first one. Also, the yearly cost of having a football program was considered and lots of people felt that other school programs (basketball, baseball, one act play.....) would have to cut their budgets or that there would be more taxes to pay for the yearly football budget. Lot of people in the Brock area want football but its hard to get a bond to pass with the economy the way it is now. If the economy was better, the results might have been different.
  13. I moved from ET to west of Ft Worth 4 years ago and there is more than one school that does not have football. 2A Brock and 2A Peaster along with several 1A schools (Poolville, Graford, etc) don't have football out here. These schools want to excel at other sports besides football. They start basketball/baseball in "offseason" the first day of school. Most of the kids specialize in one sport and they work on it year round. Several of these school have basketball only coaches and baseball only coaches not coaches that coach sereral sports. And don't forget the girls, some of these school also don't have volleyball so the the girls can concentrate on basketball/softball. Kids that want to just play basketball/baseball transfer/move to these schools. We had a teacher's kid from our school move to Brock to play baseball. Dad wanted him to "have a better opportunity in baseball." (Mom still teachs at our school.) But kids that want to play football transfer/move to schools that play football, so it all works out. Brock gets great basketball/baseball players and the other school get the football players. These school have been and always will be good in basketball/baseball with the amount of time that they work on their individual sport.
  14. Either Ken Little or Cook would be good. I played under Little back in the day and have coached with Cook. Each would bring different qualities but could do a good job. Who ever gets the job will have a tough time, I coached at G'water a few years ago and the talent level in not what is was in the past and that new football district is brutal. Good luck to Gladewater in their search, would love to see them get thing going in the next couple of years.
  15. David Overstreet, he averaged 28 yard a carry and in most game was only allowed to run the ball the first half.
  16. WOW, I think she was a Freshman when I coached there. Prayers to her and her family and all the people at Ft Hood.
  17. treetopjump why don't you go tell Celina's coach GA Moore (winningest coach in TX high school history) that he should not have coached or maybe tell Big Sandy's Lovie Smith (Chicago Bear's Head Coach) that he should not have played. There are several state championship games that ended in ties (including the first in 1920) maybe these games should not have been played also. As a coach I like my team to get up on an opponet and not have the game come down to the last minute. But, as a fan of the game, nothing is better than seeing two teams pour out their heart and soul in a game that is played for all 4 quarters and not knowing who will come out victorous until the very end. And yes, I wish the had OT back in the day but they didn't and these kids had to play within the rules we are given.
  18. Treetop the topic is best game not best season and a 42 to 0 blowout is not a good game. If that was the case then the 2005 game betwee Highland Park (Dallas) 59, Marshall 0 would be the best. I think most will agree close, down to the wire games are the best
  19. Yes, UIL had to declared State Co-Champions for both teams. :happy65:
  20. Best ever? That depends on what kid of game you like, an offensive or defensive game. I say the 1974 Big Sandy - Celina game: Big Sandy 0 Celina 0 A battle the whole game. To bad there was no OT back in the day.
  21. Prayers for the family and the entire Bear community from a former Bear coach.
  22. David Overstreet from Big Sandy High. Scored 56 TD in only 14 games (only 1 TD behind Kennrth Hall for most TD in a season).
  23. The 75 Big Sandy hands down. Sorry D'field you had great defense, but you only scored 631 pt in 16 games. Big Sandy only allow 15 points all season and set the National and State record for points scored in a season - 824 pt in 14 games. 193 pt more than D'field with 2 less games. The record stood for more than 10 years and they still hold the state record. Closest is SLC with 803 pt in 16 games. All this without the almighty spread offense, they just ran the ball down everybody's throat. By the way, Overstreet normally only ran the ball in the first half, second half he played on the line, other backs and linemen got to run the ball second half.
  24. One of the Best of All Time was the 1974 State Championship Big Sandy-Celina. Final score 0-0. For Celine this was G. A. Moore's first state title on his way to becoming the coach with the most wins in Texas vs for Big Sandy players like Overstreet (Miami Dolphins) and Lovie Smith (head coach Chicago Bears). Not the high scoring games people like today but real smash-mouth football.
  25. I've know Coach Little since he was my coach and science teacher my last 2 years of high school at Big Sandy. He was (and still is) a great influence in my live and I would not be where I am today without his help and guidance. He taught me alot about character. His best advice to me was "better use your brain because there is not a big need for short, slow and weak athletes in pro sports." So I got a degree in chemistry and became a chemist for 10 year. I'm now teaching science and coaching sports and absloutely love it. Thanks Coach for helping me and being there for me over the years. Good luck in all that you do. SmartCoach
