  1. 2024-2026 UIL REALIGNMENT DAY finds a couple new schools added to last realignment's District 11: Grapeland & Lovelady. We lose Carlisle who bumped back up to D1. District 11-2A (D2): Alto Cushing Grapeland Lovelady Mount Enterprise Overton Tenaha Should be a competitive district! Maybe only second to District 10.....in Region 3 anyway. 2. The Alto Yellowjackets will be back at home to host the Grapeland Sandies in a District 11-2A D2 showdown this Friday on Cam'ron Matthews Field at Jacket Stadium; kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. The Jackets escaped with a win over the Cushing Bearkats last Friday 27-24 while the Sandies fell to the Overton Mustangs 41-36. Many saw that loss as an upset. Through the first five games of the season, Alto is averaging 37 points per game while allowing 8.6 PPG. Grapeland is averaging 35.6 points per game while allowing 22 PPG. This will be the 65th meeting of the Jackets and the Sandies with Alto leading the series 40-23-1. The last meeting was in 2021 with the Mean Sting winning 49-14. The year before saw the Sandies break the 12-game Alto winning streak with a 50-28 Grapeland win. The Grapeland Sandies are coached by fourth year AD/HFC Jordan Wood. The Sandies return 20 lettermen with 6 lost to graduation; they return 8 offensive and 9 defensive starters from a 2-8 (1-5 district) 2023 squad. Dave Campbell's Texas Football picks the Sandies to finish fifth in District 11-2A D2 behind Lovelady, Mt. Enterprise, Overton, Tenaha, and ahead of Alto and Cushing. ALTO ( 5-0 / 1-0 ) W1 - @ GROVETON. 28-12 W W2 - CAYUGA 34-0 W W3 - HULL-DAISETTA 55-0 W W4 - @ WINONA 41-7 W W5 - @ CUSHING 27-24 W GRAPELAND ( 3-2 /0-1 ) W1 - @ CAYUGA 36-14 W W2 - BREMOND 44-32 W W3 - @ FRANKSTON 14-17 L W4 - GROVETON 48-6 W W5 - OVERTON 36-41 L
  3. Who wins in week one? Alto vs Groveton Cushing vs Colmesneil Grapeland vs Cayuga Lovelady vs Elkhart Mt Enterprise vs Carlisle Overton vs Alba-Golden Tenaha vs Elysian Fields
  4. Well here we go, last game of the year is a battle of pure pride. Does San Augustine have it in them to shake off this horrible year and end off on a high note or will Grapeland be able to find their second win of the year and prove that they aren’t the worst the district has to offer? Last week San Augustine’s offense gained 238 yards. They were led on the field once again by Freshman QB Ty Cartwright who threw for 97 yards and ripped off a few big runs. Beside him in the backfield was fellow Freshman RB Andrew Nash who rushed for 86 yards on 10 carries, including a 75 yarder. When SA needed a big play they called on Junior ATH Demarion Teagle who had an insanely impressive toe tap catch for a touchdown and multiple tackle breaking runs. He ended the game with 52 rushing yards on 3 carries and 12 receiving yards and a touchdown off 2 catches. Senior WR Jamarion Henderson stood out as a reliable deep threat as well as being deadly in the open field. He caught two long balls amounting 73 yards and a touchdown, and took multiple kick returns deep into Garrison territory. I have basically zero information regarding Grapeland and their players. But it sounds like they have some big cats at skill positions. These teams last played in 2012 and 2013 where SA destroyed them both times for a combined score of 118-34. Kickoff is set for Friday at 7:00pm in Grapeland. Show some fight to end the year Wolves!

  6. DISTRICT OPENER! The Alto Yellowjackets will travel to Grapeland Friday to take on the Sandies in the District 11-2A D1 opener; kickoff is 7:00 p.m.! The Jackets are on a 2-game win streak after beating Winona (42-7) and San Augustine (47-20); the loss was to Troup (48-18) in Week 1. The Sandies handily defeated a much-improved Burkeville team 58-22 Friday and have wins over Shelbyville (50-30) and Cayuga (36-20); their two losses are to Elkhart (40-14) and Kirbyville (33-14). Both teams should be feeling confident after experiencing success in their respective pre-district schedules. Alto returns 20 lettermen while Grapeland returns 22. The Jackets have 8/8 returning starters on O/D while the Sandies return 8/7. Both are under new head coaching leadership. Grapeland defeated Alto for the first time since 1991 in last year’s contest 50-28. The Sandies are picked by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football to finish 3rd just ahead of Alto. The Mean Sting leads the series 39-23-1. Who gets the win and a leg up in district play? Interesting side note: Alto and Grapeland first played in Alto’s inaugural season in 1927, a 14-0 Jacket win. Grapeland began playing football 2 years earlier in 1925. Grapeland’s first win over Alto came in 1934 18-6. These two go way back! Lol
  7. The Alto Yellowjackets open District 11-2A D1 play when the Grapeland Sandies come to town on Friday, October 4th. The Jackets fell to San Augustine Friday night while the Sandies defeated Burkeville. Though improving each week, the Mean Sting is still looking for their first win of the 2020 season. Alto leads the series with Grapeland 39-22-1 and last played in 2015 when they were in the same district; Alto won that game 48-28. The Sandies’ last victory was in 1991, a 41-21 win. Second season begins Friday! Who goes 1-0? Interesting side note: Alto and Grapeland first played in Alto’s inaugural season in 1927, a 14-0 Jacket win. Grapeland began playing football 2 years earlier in 1925. Grapeland’s first win over Alto came in 1934 18-6. These two go way back!

  9. 2 of the top teams in the oldest county in Texas go at it for the first time in recent memory. People are calling it "The Battle For Houston County." Who comes out on top? Alot of these kids know each other personally and there's been alot of smack talk all the way from February until now. My prediction is: Crockett-56 Grapeland-20
  10. Grapeland hits a 3 to force OT. Lovelady misses a 3 to end game. Why they wanna shoot a 3 when your down two is beyond my belief....Smh. idk who this coach rollo is, but he needs to Go!
  11. Congratulations to the Grapeland Boys Golf Team on winning the Class 2A State Championship! Very well deserved! The Sandies took 1st place as a team, sophomore Rick Frauenberger took 1st place individually, and we also broke the Class 2A record of a 602 with a two-day team score of 600! Coach: Cannon Earp Golfers: Case Boyd (Jr.), Josh "Bear" Ackley (soph.), Rick Frauenberger (soph.), Riley Chipman (Sr.), Brayden Cheatham (Jr.).

  13. How's your team looking? Which teams do you think are gonna come out on top of this district? Any darkhorses that can defy expectations? What do y'all think?
  14. I graduated from Lovelady. Everyone wants to say their rival is Groveton, but I think it's really Grapeland. Lately Lovelady and Groveton has been about even the last decade or so, but overall, Groveton has Lovelady's #. That's why I don't really consider it a true "rivalry".
  15. Sandies at Mustangs 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7 Coach Chester Roy Stadium, Overton
  16. This should be an exciting district. I'm interested to see how Tenaha's QB progresses this year, and how Therwhanger does at Timpson. Loads of talent, can he turn them into a powerhouse similar to the way he did Lovelady? Strange to see Wortham and Tenaha in the same district.
  17. Overton at Grapeland, 9 a.m. Saturday at Sandies Stadium Yeah yeah, I get it, it's just a scrimmage — no one's trying to "win" or anything. But what are some things you're hoping to see out of your kids? Grapeland and Overton are both two young teams trying to turn their programs around. I don't know where the Sandies are in this process, but the Mustangs have a lot of young, raw talent. While there's only three or four seniors, there's a bunch of sophomores who started last year — and some gifted freshmen coming up. Barton & Co. believe in starting the best 11 guys on a side, so seniority doesn't count for squat if you don't put out. I've seen and heard good things coming outta practice thus far, Saturday is a chance to see how much progress has been made... or if we need to go back to the drawing board. Thoughts?
