  1. The 2019 football season is on the horizon! The first prediction for District 10-2A that I have seen was on Twitter today by Scouting Report (@SR_scouting) SO I thought I would go ahead and start this thread. I like the way this looks.
  2. The #8 Alto Yellowjackets will host the Union Grove Lions on Friday, November 8 on Cam’Ron Matthews Field at Jacket Stadium. It will be Senior Night and what a senior class it is! This group of 17 young men have done something very special, leading the way to an undefeated 9-0 season. The Jackets clinched the district championship with the win over Hawkins (57-8). There is nothing more they had rather do than finish Senior Night on our home field with a win to take us to 10-0 for the first time since 2015. Will the Mean Sting take care of UG or do the upset-minded Lions prevail?
  3. The first day of practice is days away!! The new District 10-2A consists of Alto, Big Sandy, Carlisle, Cushing, Hawkins, and Union Grove. Time to start the football talk! Week 1: Alto @ Palestine Westwood Big Sandy vs. San Augustine @ Beckville Sabine @ Carlisle Cushing @ Chilton Hawkins @ Alba-Golden Union Grove @ Simms Bowie EXCITED for this season to begin! How do you think this district will shake out?
  4. The Alto Yellowjackets travel to Union Grove for the first time ever on Friday, November 9th to take on the Lions. This is the last game of the regular season before the bi-district round. Alto has secured the 2nd seed behind Carlisle while Union Grove was eliminated from playoff contention by Cushing last Friday. The Jackets and Lions have met one time and that was in the 2014 area round of the playoffs at West Rusk HS; the Mean Sting won 47-0. UG in the upset or Alto rolls?
  5. Who gets the opening win of the season? Overton coming off a successful 8-3 playoff year...having to replace QB, Tackle, WR to graduation...also having to replace Center and another Tackle due to not playing...and other WR moving...that being said they have worthy replacements All District 1st Team TE moved to Tackle and a strong replacement at Center...two very quick WR stepping up (both caught a TD each in last scrimmage)...QB is shifty and a good runner and has decent arm strength...RB positions solid...if OL can come thru should be able to move the chains successfully. Defense is having to replace one ILB and two OLB...one corner and 1 safety...defense is pretty quick...must contain edges and get pressure on QB to help secondary. All I have heard about UG is a bowling ball RB who's tough to bring down and a decent size OL...UG has had a run of successful years. Last year's game had to be cancelled to due weather..,UG was leading in 1st quarter 8-0.
  6. Nobody is perfect but no one wants to see any of these teams in the playoffs. I think they all deserve a little pat on the back especially the Union Hill Bulldogs who are giving up an average of 10 points a game but in reality they just had two close ones where as they surrendered a touchdown or less in most of their games. Gilmer BUCKEYES 8-1 Union Hill Bulldogs 8-1 Gladewater Bears 7-1 Harmony Eagles 7-2 Big Sandy Wildcats 7-2 Union Grove Lions 6-2 These other teams get recognition a lot but just WoW this county is getting it done!!
  7. Lions vs. Mustangs 7 p.m., Friday Aug. 26 Coach Chester Roy Stadium, Overton
  8. I could be wrong about this but I think it's the first time Gilmer, Gladewater, and Union Grove are district champions in the same season. All being close on 271 is pretty cool. Their combined records were 29-1. Some good ball being played on that stretch of road. Congratulations to the teams. Good luck in the playoffs.
  9. Well, I can't believe this hasn't already posted (and I can't believe I gotta be the one to start the conversation), but what about Union Grove and Carlisle, y'all? I'm reading a lot about Union Grove returning to the postseason, and maybe even playing for a district title, but nobody saying squat about the Indians of Price-Carlisle? Yeah sure, they're replacing some guys but it's not as though they've completely forgotten how to play football out there. I'm taking the fightin' Rocky Bakers in this'n. I say they roll 'em up from start to finish. Carlisle pumps the brakes late, and the Lions sneak a coupla scores against the 2s, but the outcome of this game is never in doubt. Indians win 38-14.
