  1. A rematch of last year's Region III Area game. Last year the Mustangs were bested 66-20 by the eventual state runner-ups. This year all four seeds from both of their districts have advanced to the second round. So, who will be the favorite in this year's matchup? Mart of course, well because they're Mart. They're perennial contenders for the 2ADII state championships. They have played in the championship game 5 out of the last 6 years, winning two state championships in that span. In all Mart has made 15 state championship appearances. Winning 7 and Co-champs in 1. Overton has appeared in zero state championship games. The closest was a semi-final appearance in 1995. Could be a much closer game this year, but will it? As far as strength of schedule, Overton opponents had a total win/loss record of 57-59. Three of those teams they played are still in the playoffs and they beat two of them. Mart opponents went 54-62. Five of those are still in the playoffs and they beat three of them. 2. Tenaha visits Overton on Thursday, October 3rd for a district matchup. No one can ever take Tenaha for granted despite their 1-4 record. Overton won a close one vs Grapeland last week.
  3. Who wins in week one? Alto vs Groveton Cushing vs Colmesneil Grapeland vs Cayuga Lovelady vs Elkhart Mt Enterprise vs Carlisle Overton vs Alba-Golden Tenaha vs Elysian Fields
  4. 2024-2026 UIL REALIGNMENT DAY finds a couple new schools added to last realignment's District 11: Grapeland & Lovelady. We lose Carlisle who bumped back up to D1. 5. The game was played in four quarters of rain...the fourth quarter was a heavier rain, whew.
  6. The Alto Yellowjackets will host the Overton Mustangs this Friday; kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. The Jackets and Mustangs have been district mates twice: 1978/1979 and 2008/2009 with the Jackets winning all 4 contests. They played a playoff game way back in 1937 with the Mustangs winning 27-0. Other than that, a couple scrimmages in 2018 and 2019. The Jackets lost to Tenaha in a heartbreaker on Saturday 43-42 while the Mustangs defeated Mt. Enterprise 47-38 Friday. Both squads are 1-1 in district. Results for the 2022 season thus far: Shelbyville 48 - Alto 44 Alto 48 - West Sabine 22 Alto 22 - San Augustine 8 Garrison 28 - Alto 20 Alto 32 - Groveton 20 Alto 46 - Mount Enterprise 34 Tenaha 43 - Alto 42 Quinlan Boles 27 - Overton 12 Overton 45 - All Saints 6 Simms Bowie 47 - Overton 28 Colmesneil 36 - Overton 25 Linden-Kildare 28 - Overton 26 Cushing 22 - Overton 15 (OT) Overton 47 - Mt. 7. Clarksville vs Whitewright Detroit vs Trenton James Bowie vs Union Grove Maud vs Ore City Mt Enterprise vs Colmesneil Overton vs Campbell

  9. Class 2A DII Overton Mustangs (0-3) visit Class 3A DII Como-Pickton Eagles (3-0) Can the Mustangs crack the win column this week? Will the Eagles get win four and match their best start since 2004?
  10. The Mustangs took one on the chin last week vs a big Union Grove team...can they regroup and get a win at home vs the James Bowie Pirates. Bowie was open last week. Bowie has a tall Sr QB 6-3/195... plus some hefty OL, two listed at 5-11/230 and one at 6-3/235. The Mustangs OL has decent size, but a couple of newcomers to full varsity playing time...5-11/245, 5-8/200, 5-11/250, 5-10/285, & 5-11/320...those newbies have got to come along for the Mustangs to be successful and generate some much needed offense production that was missing last week. Mustangs are still breaking in two new QB's 5-8/160 and 6-1/150...and both may get a lot of reps this week. RB's are hoping to see those gaps opened this week...they go 5-11/160, 5-10/170, 5-9/185, & 5-9/170. WR's are certainly hoping for the QB's to have those needed seconds to get off the passes...they go 6-4/180, 6-2/155, 5-6/155, 6-1/165, 5-9/155, & 5-6/135. Defensively, the Stangs have to do much better than last week...still were breaking in some new kiddos and it showed. They have one huge DL player that can mess things up if he gets rolling, 5-11/240 and another quick one at 5-8/180. OLB's will have to contain Bowie on the edges and ILB's will have to plug the middle. New DB's will have to dial it up and play smart. I think Overton slides by in a close one this week and gets a much need W.
  11. Who gets the opening win of the season? Overton coming off a successful 8-3 playoff year...having to replace QB, Tackle, WR to graduation...also having to replace Center and another Tackle due to not playing...and other WR moving...that being said they have worthy replacements All District 1st Team TE moved to Tackle and a strong replacement at Center...two very quick WR stepping up (both caught a TD each in last scrimmage)...QB is shifty and a good runner and has decent arm strength...RB positions solid...if OL can come thru should be able to move the chains successfully. Defense is having to replace one ILB and two OLB...one corner and 1 safety...defense is pretty quick...must contain edges and get pressure on QB to help secondary. All I have heard about UG is a bowling ball RB who's tough to bring down and a decent size OL...UG has had a run of successful years. Last year's game had to be cancelled to due weather..,UG was leading in 1st quarter 8-0.
