It’s a feat they’ll be looking to match this Friday night as they welcome the South Oak Cliff Golden Bears for Homecoming 2017. The Lobos, 2-0 on the young season, are fresh off a 41-7 win over the Marshall Mavericks. The win over the Mavs was their 16th win in the last 17 against Marshall, and was their 60th overall in the long standing rivalry. After hosting the 107th battle between the Lobos and Mavericks, Longview now turns to hosting Dallas ISD’s South Oak Cliff in the 7th contest between the two schools. The Lobos have never lost against the Golden Bears, with only a 1962 tie blemishing an otherwise perfect record over SOC. Last season, the Lobos 7-0 early to the Golden Bears after a long drive of 17 plays to open the game. From there on, Longview rolled to a 62-14 win. For the second straight year, the Golden Bears will be the opponent for Homecoming 2017. The Lobos improved to a perfect 13-0 last season under John King in Homecoming games, and will be looking to continue that trend against their final non-district opponent on Friday. Longview has scored at least 50 points in their previous 5 Homecoming games (52, 55, 56, 61, 62). South Oak Cliff is the 17th DISD school the Lobos have faced. Longview is 47-8-2 in the previous 57 games against Dallas ISD schools. Longview’s last loss in Longview to a DISD school came in 1966 when Dallas Woodrow Wilson escaped Longview with a 19-14 win. The last overall loss to a DISD school came against Dallas Carter in 1991, 26-0, in the Area Round of the playoffs. The Lobos are 20-3 under John King in non-district games at Lobo Stadium, with only Allen (2011) and John Tyler (2010, 2014) able to defeat Longview at home. SOC will be looking to rebound following a tough 56-20 loss at the hands of the Lancaster Tigers. The Golden Bears started the season with a big upset over Ennis, as the Bears scored on the last play of the game to knock of the Lions, 29-28. After Allison added his third, the Lobos would need a huge defensive stop. Despite getting it, Longview would have to go all the way with little time on the clock. They got it. A hail mary 97-yard touchdown pass from Joel Armstrong got Willie Andrews would send the Lobo crowd into a frenzy as Longview knocked off the Wildcats, 27-24. The only word that can be expressed after Longview's 56-7 victory over arch rival Marshall last Friday night. The Lobos struck quick and fast in the first half building a 21-0 lead after one quarter, growing that lead to 42-7 at the halftime break. After last season’s 28-25 loss to the Mavericks, the Lobos made quick work to prove last season’s loss was an arbitration instead of a changing of the guard. The win gave Longview it’s 15th victory in their last 16 contests against Marshall. It was also the program’s 59th victory against the arch rival Mavericks. Kendrevian White was the work horse for the Lobos for the second straight week as he registered four touchdowns on the night, becoming the first Lobo to put home four touchdowns since Braylynn Anthony’s four touchdown night last season against Hallsville. The Lobos now return home for their home opener against a foe they haven’t faced since the early 1990s. It’s been 25 years since Longview and Dallas’s South Oak Cliff met on the gridiron, in a series that dates back to 1956. The two programs have met just five times over their histories, all at Longview’s Lobo Stadium (new and old). The only non-Longview victory came in 1962 during a 6-6 tie. The Lobos, for the most part, have dominated the overall series..especially the two previous encounters having outscored the Golden Bears 84-8. The two schools have started the 2016 season in quite opposite fashion. After both schools started the season 0-1, the two teams took very different routes in week two with Longview rolling 56-7 and South Oak Cliff falling apart to Lancaster 51-7. The Lobos will be hosting both Homecoming and Green Out events during the week three contest. Longview has not lost a Homecoming game since 2003 (an 18-14 loss to Tyler Lee), having won 12 consecutive. The Lobos are also 12-2 all-time during Green Out contests, losing just twice to Allen (2011) and John Tyler (2014). Longview also brings an 8-game home winning streak into the game, having only lost to John Tyler (41-25) in their last 21 home games. The game also pits Longview against a Dallas ISD school for the first time since 2008, when the Lobos knocked off Dallas Carter (35-20) in the Regional round of the 4A playoffs. Overall, Longview has registered a 45-8-2 record all-time against DISD schools. WEEK TWO 11-6A SCHEDULE: Longview vs South Oak Cliff John Tyler v. In 1966, Longview shut out Dallas Adamson in Longview, 27-0. In 1977, the Lobos held Fort Worth Paschal to 77 total yards in a 24-0 victory for Longview. In 1983, Longview shut out the Panthers of Fort Worth Paschal 28-0. Eric Harris, Charles Smith, O’Neal Jackson and Joe Johnson all tallied for the Lobos. In 1988, the Bulldogs of Fort Worth Trimble Tech ran up 395 rushing yards and held the lead (14-7) midway through the 2nd quarter before the Lobos came to life. The end result, behind two touchdowns from Deondreau Bennett and Reggie Adams, was a 35-20 victory for Longview. In 1994, a 0-0 tie at halftime turned in favor of the Killeen Kangaroos in the second half as Jeremy Mulcahy’s two field goals set the stage for a 12-0 victory for the Roos.
