  1. Thought we'd have a scrimmage thread for the scrimmage this coming Friday. Tigers visiting Lobo Stadium, with varsity scrimmage starting around 7 PM. Lobos open their defending State Champion season with their lone scrimmage of the season. Second time the two teams have ever scrimmaged against one another, with the only other time being last season up in Texarkana. Longview had a 16-0 season last season, ending with the 6A Division II State Title coming back to East Texas, while Texas High had their worst season since finishing 5-5 in 2000, with their 3-7 record. Lobos and Tigers know each other very well, having met 63 previous times on the gridiron. Longview is 40-22-1 in games between the two schools, with the Lobos having won the past 11 meetings. Texas High's last victory in Longview came in 1984, when the Tigers escaped Longview with a 6-0 victory. Texas High hasn't beaten Longview at Grim Park since 1980, a 10-8 Tiger win. Two teams in very different places right now, but hopefully it can be a solid scrimmage this Friday night at Lobo Stadium.
  2. This is the first these two teams will meet as District mates in years. John Tyler is 5-0 against The Tigers since 2009. The last time Cujo Loss to Texas High was in 08 at Rose Stadium. Thoughts on this game.
  3. Teams have started work outs and such so time to move from pre-season talk to regular season/post season talk. LAST FIVE GAMES IN SERIES 09.25.2009 - Longview 28 Texas High 25 - Grim Park 09.26.2008 - Longview 41 Texas High 7 - Lobo Stadium 09.22.1995 - Longview 29 Texas High 12 - Grim Park 09.16.1994 - Longview 37 Texas High 0 - Lobo Stadium 10.06.1989 - Longview 40 Texas High 7 - Grim Park FULL GAME LOG GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW: 14 in a row. That's what Longview accomplished on Friday night, ripping the Marshall Mavericks to the tune of 56-13 inside Lobo Stadium. Longview, for the sixth consecutive game, scored on their first drive of the game as they grabbed a 21-0 lead after the first quarter. Longview has scored at least 21 points in the first quarter now in three consecutive ball games and has outscored their district 15-5A opponents 133-13 in the first half this season. Even more impressive for Longview, the Lobos scored 50 or more in their third consecutive contest...a record that had not been reached by a Lobo squad since the 1927 team. The win marked the 58th overall over the Mavs, and was Longview's 29th consecutive home district win dating back to the 2003 season. John King is now 56-3 in district ballgames. So now, after recording #14 in a row over the Mavs, the Lobos look toward continuing another streak. Longview has won nine in a row over the Tigers of Texarkana, and 11 of their previous 12 meetings. The Tigers last knocked off Longview in 1984, with a 6-0 win at Lobo Stadium. Longview strolls into Grim Park holding a six game winning streak at the venue dating back to 1980 when the Lobos fell 10-8 to the Tigers. Texas High has had an up and down season thus far. The Tigers could easily be sitting at 6-0 on the season, but just as easily could be staring 1-5 in the face. The only contest decided by more than 10 points so far has been their 42-29 win over Sulphur Springs. The Tigers started out at 1-2 in non-district, barely losing to Whitehouse (by 3) and Arkansas High (by 6 in OT) and knocking off Kilgore (by 6 in triple OT). Since knocking off the Bulldogs, the Tigers have gone 3-0 in 15-5A play taking advantage of turnovers more so than anything. The Tigers trailed 7-0 and 14-7 at Pine Tree and were tied 21-21 before they pulled away late for the 10 point win over the Pirates. The 31 points allowed by Pine Tree was the first time this season they had not allowed at least 40 points, and the second time the Pirates held their opponents under 50. Longview and Texas High will meet for just the fifth time in the last 25 seasons, and in district play for just the third time. The two schools met for 38 consecutive season between 1952 and 1989 before the Tigers dropped to 4A. The 61 meetings is fourth most in Longview's school history against an opponent, behind only Marshall, John Tyler and Lufkin. A win for either squad will put them in the driver's seat for the district championship, a mark the Lobos are looking to win for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons. Longview has won 12 consecutive district ball games overall. Texas High has won 8 straight. In 1930, Jacksonville and Longview battled to a bore 0-0 tie. In 1941, Longview posted their 7th win in their previous 8 meetings over the Tigers from Texas High with a 32-0 win in Texarkana. In 1947, Longview dominated the Henderson Lions from start to finish as they grabbed a 33-0 victory. In 1952, the Lobos dropped to 1-4 on the season as the Wildcats of Palestine posted a 20-6 victory over Longview in Lobo Stadium. In 1958, Mack Thomas put Longview on the board in the second quarter with a one yard run, only to see Dan Pearson level the game on a 60-yard punt return in the 3rd quarter. The visitors left Stark Stadium feeling as if they had missed out on an opportunity as the Orange Tigers held off the visiting Lobos, 6-6. In 1969, Rodney Hill booted a 34-yard field goal with 19 seconds remaining ending any chance of a Marshall post season berth as the Lobos grabbed a 17-16 victory over the Mavericks in Marshall. In 1975, Leo McCoy tallied two touchdowns with Llewellyn Fambles grabbing another as the Lobos handed John Tyler a 23-0 loss in the second to last game at old Lobo Stadium. In 1986, a close game saw the game end as close as possible as the Lobos and Lufkin Panthers battled to a 10-10 tie on homecoming night. In 1997, Shawn Byrdsong tallied on a 95 yard pass reception, then added another later in the third quarter as the Lobos put up 521 yards total offense in a 42-25 homecoming victory over the Tyler Lee Red Raiders. In 2003, after a 7-7 first quarter, the Lufkin Panthers took over play in the second quarter posting 25 points with E.J Shankle's 79 yard run and Jorvorskie Lane's 65 yard pass reception leading the way. The Panthers held on in the second half with the final, 35-21 Lufkin. In 2008, a back and forth affair saw the Lobos and Mavericks tied at 21 all at the break. But in the second half, it was all Longview. 29 unanswered points in the second half of play gave Longview a dominating 50-21 victory over their long time rivals.
