The Alto Yellowjackets will travel to Winona to take on the Wildcats this Friday with a 7:30 kickoff. The Jackets are coming off a 55-0 shutout of Hull-Daisetta while the Wildcats fell to the Hawkins Hawks 50-20. The Mean Sting defense has only allowed 12 points in 3 games, posting 2 shutouts. Winona scored their first points of the season vs Hawkins. Not a lot of history between these two but Alto leads the series 3-2. The Winona Wildcats are lead by first year AD/head coach Kenneth Cook who took over for 10-year AD/HFC Keylon Kincade. The Wildcats return 14 lettermen with 5 lost to graduation; they return 7 offensive and 7 defensive starters from a 1-8 (1-5 district) 2023 squad. Dave Campbell's Texas Football picks the Wildcats to finish last in District 11-3A D2 behind New Diana, West Rusk, Arp, Troup, Buffalo, and Elkhart. The Alto Yellowjackets will host the Winona Wildcats this Friday at 7:30 in the first home game of the season. (I’m claiming it right now! Lol) The Jackets have not played since Week 1 vs. Troup and are anxious to get back under the Friday night lights. Winona has three games under their belts with a win over Lone Oak and losses to Frankston and Elysian Fields. It’s homecoming in Alto with festivities beginning at 7:00 p.m. Fingers crossed that we are 100% and everything goes as scheduled. UPDATE: District 11-2A play is now October 1st for all schools; bye week has been moved to November 5th per District 11-2A coaches meeting on Monday, 9/13/2021.

We WILL have a winner! Lol The Alto Yellowjackets will travel to Winona to take on the Wildcats in Week 4 pre-district action. Both teams have stumbled out of the gate with uncharacteristic 0-3 starts. The Jackets are young returning 2 starters on each side of the ball with 9 sophomores on the field, juniors who basically have 3 varsity games under their belts, and less than a handful of seniors. The JV was 10-0 so there is promise, but the young men are having to grow up and grow up fast. Last night was a “victory” of sorts as the Jackets held a strong Carlisle team to 12 points (2 field goals in the first half and a TD in the 4Q). Though the offense has struggled in the red zone, they are improving. Winona returns 21 lettermen with 7 offensive and 7 defensive starters from a 6-5 playoff team. The Wildcats are picked to finish third in District 9-3A D2 behind West Rusk and Harmony. Winona has faced Lone Oak, Frankston, and Elysian Fields. The series is tied at 2-2. Who gets their first dub of the season?!

Last year Class 2A Winona jumped out to a quick lead on Class 1A Overton and then just poured it on, with the game finishing a 52-22 non-district home win for the Wildcats. In this year's season opener, Winona travels to Coach Chester Roy Stadium in Overton, where the Mustangs haven't lost a game since 2011. How do these two teams match up? Which team has the advantage? Who do you think is gonna come away with the win?
