Don't remind me, but you can't put a price on happiness, and for me guns equal :happy65:

Ok, I will never shoot a kimber again. This weekend I am out at the range and my cousin has his Warrior which I have on back order.....stovepiped on me 3 times!!!!!! I have been shooting glocks for years and never once had a jam...No way I am gonna spend $1500 on a pistol that jams that much when I can buy 2 glocks for the same price.

He has owned this gun for about 2 to 3 years and carried it in Afghanistan as his service sidearm...I know it has had at least 300 rounds go through it, however that being said I was told it could have been the clips malfunctioning from debris being in them.

Never shot one personally, but Ruger makes a fine firearm...They get a bad rap because they are on the bottom side of the price scale usually so people (idiots) assume they are cheap...untrue. I own a Ruger 10/22 and I wouldn't own any other brand of rifle in that caliber.

I've got AN AR...but I got a .223, .308, and .50cal upper for it...I also ordered the masterkey mount so I can mount my defender shotgun under it for added home protection value...also have a ACOG and holographic sight for it with the flashlight mount and modified muzzle to send the noise down range....pistol grip pump on the shotgun will double nicely as a handle. Accessorizing AR's never gets old :D

I know this is probably a stupid question but is the shotgun undermount supposed to be like a m203? I know with airsoft rifles they do that and all the bb's are loaded into a grenade type device that holds co2 or green gas. I know thats not the same but is that like a m203 to a larger scale or something? I've always wanted to get a Bushmaster .203 but the money is just too much. I like the Smith and Wesson version of the AR too but then your really gettting into the money for that one. HK has a really nice lookin "assualt" rifle that kinda looks like a gr36, or as close to assualt as you can legally get now.....lol When I was in the academy some 15 years ago we had a guy from BCI who had clearance for actual automatic weapons and he brought a AK to the range. You couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with that thing cause it really did spray and pray.

Haven't read the entire thread, but does anyone out there have a 16 gauge shotgun? I know they are rare. What are your thoughts? I may have an opportunity to get one, but am curious if they are valuable or not.

Thanks, be sweet! :flowers:

Not as valuable as an 8 gauge with paper shells! They used to make the 16 gauge with a .22 barrel right beside it. Kind of an odd looking thing! As far as I know, you can still get 16 gauge shells fairly easy

Factory peeps.

There's an issue being raised about whether puting the special optics on an AR makes it a "precision" weapon. For law-enforcement, a gun having that title would mean having to become "sniper" certified to carry it, for the lack of a better term. Having the peep sights only means I have to qualify with it the same as I do my pistol (once the rifle school is completed).

FiveO, does it seem to you that using a scope or any type of optics isn't normal? I was raised on open sights and scopes just seem to drive me ####! I can shoot ten times better with open sights but obviously there's a distance issue that can't be overcome with common eyesight but scopes just don't seem natural to me for some reason...... :hmm:

actually you would be suprised at how inexpensive an "entry" level springfield is.

A Springer Mil-Spec has to be one of the best buys out there when it come to 1911 .45ACP pistols. With forged steel slides and frames (not cast) most custom builders have no problem using a Mil-Spec as a base gun for a custom build job. Mine has never failed one time out of the box. No FTF, FTE, nothing. It goes bang everytime.

They are not inexpensive after you swap-out all the MIM parts and replace them with top shelf tool steel parts and send it off to the Custom Shop for a work-over.

Still at hundreds, if not thousands less, I would now put my Springer up against just about any Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer 1911 out there. Whats in a name besides lots of cash.

Here is another one of my toys...

Old Norinco 1911A1 Gov. Model with a Clark Customs .460 Rowland kit. Besides the .460 Rowland kit, all I've done was upgrade the trigger with an STI short polymer unit and a EGW sear and disconnector. Shoots great and would probably put a smile on Dirty Harry's face.

Obviously their is an advantage with a scoped rifle that is sighted in PROPERLY! God strike me dead but I was not happy with a neighbor that shoots a scoped .300 Winchester Mag who made two shots at a coyote recently and missed both shots! 800 yard shots are something to brag about I guess but that particular day scared the hell out of my wife. People shoot around us all the time but 800 yards is likely to end up at someone's front door. Morons. Sorry for the rant. My old Mosin Nagants will shoot quite a distance but I stop their projectiles with a good backstop at 100 yrds. or less. Sorry , East Texas is not West Texas and it dang sure ain't Montana.

I'm not sure I can see 2400 feet or at least be certain what I'm looking at!

You should live in Ohio during Deer season!!! There's a reason we aren't allowed to use rifles! Still a 3 and 3 quarter inch magnum sabot going through your house can tear up alot of stuff! I think our house was hit once with that and once during crossbow season!!! Not to mention the fact that all the woods are pretty much being sold off as quarter acre lots so you have probably 20 hunters within a half mile space all shooting at the same deer! Yeah, that would be why I don't hunt deer here anymore! We had a neighbor who went hunting with a .45 which is legal here to use a pistol. He had asked permission to go on this families private lot. No big deal but their kid was also a hunter and he told him that he was going to go too and our neighbor offered him some orange to wear but he refused it. Well the kid was crawling through the bush's for some stupid reason and instead checking his target, our neighbor shot the kid in the head! This was probably when I was in grade school but he was never the same after that of course. It messed him up pretty bad knowing he accidently killed that boy. The weird thing was the family was some kind of religion where they didn't believe in waiting for funeral homes or something like that. The day the boy died, they had him in the ground in a pine box that night. I don't know what that belief came from but they were just weird that way. It was really sad!

^ I meant to say "there is an advantage" rather than "their is an advantage"...see, I cannot "see"!

I guess we all hear stories such as yours. I remember in the 80's in Granbury, Texas the owner of a gun store accidentally shooting his son at the gun store shooting range. I think this boy was limited and no one knew he was walking behind the target area. He was not supposed to be there! Statistically we know guns , other than during time of "war" , are no where as lethal as 2 ton plus masses of steel ( or plastic) hurling themselves down our public roadways.

I addressed my concern with the .300 Win Mag Man and trust better judgement next time. After all there are neighbors on the other side of that "pasture".

Yeah, I think thats one thing that my dad taught me well was that once you pull that trigger, there's no controlling that bullet once it leaves the barrel. You have to have foresight to realize where it's going to end up. Don't point it towards a road. Always have a backstop and such rules that really only certain people with common sense should be allowed to handle a weapon because in reality, you really do in a sense have the power of life and death in your hands. Thats something I don't think is taught as well now a days. Even with a bb-gun starting out as a child, you should really be taught respect for a weapon! I went through police academy and it was basically para-military training and they told you step by step what to do and if you didn't follow directions to a T, you had an instructor with a ballistic clip board thumping you in the back of the head!! SERIOUSLY! Which I never really did think was that smart, but I guess no instructor ever got shot!....lol. But my dad's training in the military was passed on to me so I was used to all those stringents. I just hadn't used a pistol until I was like 21 I think because my dad always said their was no need for it at my age because all a pistol was meant for was to kill and he was somewhat right I guess. He was of the belief that as a hunter you only needed a rifle and a shotgun...lol But when I got in the academy I got a S&W 4006 and he started teaching me how to handle a handgun properly which really isnt that much different than a rifle other than the way you aquire your target. With a rife you look between your two rear sites and align them with the front sight to your target but with a pistol you almost ignore the sites other than to align the three dots if you have them and focus on your target. I always thought it seemed like your breathing was different and it was just a whole different ball game between the two weapons. You don't exactly do a double tap, head shot with a rifle when your hunting.....lol

An 800 yard shot? Thats pretty impressive if you can pull that off, even with a scope. It's also a pretty stupid shot if you don't know what your doing because of all the factors involved to hit the target. I'm sure he didn't have a range finder or spotter or anything which probably why he missed both times! I don't blame you for being ticked! You said a 300 Magnum? Thats a pretty heavy bullet to be shooting that far anyway so how someone in their right mind could think thats a reasonable shot is beyond me!

I have a Remington Sportsman model 48. They aren't too expensive but it shoots true and it only gets taken out (every once in a while) for dove or skeet. The problem I have is I don't look at it as a tool and that for that reason I don't use it that often. All my guns are tools, if I am scared they will get scratched or dented then they don't get taken out except for special occasions.

I would recommend everyone buy an 870, it is the best shotgun out there for the price. I have dropped mine in the water twice took it cleaned all the dirt off it and it shot like nothing ever happened. You make sure you clean them and keep them oiled and they will never fail.

Sorry. I just saw this.

I much prefer open or iron sights in close quarter situations. Long range is a different story. I've killed several deer from varying distances with both iron sights and scopes. Every shot went in the chest cavity right behind the shoulder. I don't guess I'm any worse with one than the other.

Great thread!!!

Im just getting ready to buy my 1st pistol and Im leaning towards a Ruger SR9. Any info will be appreciated.

I know the SR9 had some early problems, but they have been fixed to my knowledge. I have one of the first one's made and had no problems. The new ones have a trigger similar to the Glock. There are a lot of similarities to the Glock and the S&W Sigma.

I apologize I have been away from SDC for a while. There are a few options on the masterkey addition depending on the shotgun and AR platform you are adding it to. I have mine mounted to the carbine version of the AR so I just used a special braketing system my gunsmith (that I trust with my life) ordered for me and helped me mount. Its basiclly useless since it makes the gun pretty uncomfortably heavy, but I guess it is still cool to mount and take out to friends houses for oooo's and ahhhhh's...I thought it might be handy for when I was hog hunting if they got a little too close for comfort. I just carry my sidearm for that now.

^ The cost of centerfire pistol ammo has pretty much put an end to my range shooting all together. My favorites are .45 ACP, 40 S&W and 9MM and it's been a long while since I could afford to go out and run through 200+ rounds of each. Do wish I had invested in reloading equip. years ago. Time to breakout my Ruger 22/45 and Single Six!

QUOTE (Wildcat_20 @ Jul 13 2010, 04:52 PM) How about shotguns guys, I am thinking about a great home defense one...pistol grip probably, something with heavy ammo capacity

Being a cop, I am biased towards the Remington 870.

how about the rossi?? Ciruit Judge?? shoots a bad a?? 410 round or a 45 long colt
