cozbyrt
Fast FPV Falcon GT could blast to the US Barry Park 20 December 2010 www.drive.com.au Ford's newly flagged strategy to source global products to fill the needs in its markets worldwide could produce lucrative returns for its far-flung Australian outpost — selling performance cars in the US. Speculation is growing that Ford Performance Vehicles, the go-fast division of Ford Australia, could sell its supercharged V8 technology back into the US, but this time it will be wrapped in an Australian-made package. FPV spent an estimated $40 million working locally developed Harrop Engineering-sourced supercharger in between its 5.0-litre V8's cylinder banks to develop a significant boost in power, driveability (through significantly increased torque) and flexibility. The new FPV Falcon GT (and GT-P and GT-E variants) is the fastest Australian-made car currently on sale and the quickest Ford ever sold here. However, it could also spawn a new export market for Australia's second-best selling locally made car and reap Ford Australia some huge dividends. FPV's case grows stronger after Ford's US-based vice-president of global marketing, Jim Farley, announced the car maker plans to build global cars, with specific mention that his plans include a more performance-based focus — including rear-wheel-drive models — for the US market.
