State Tennis Ranking

I suppose any team could be head and shoulders over everyone else if they had the money that Abilene Wylie has. In a sense, they're the best team money can buy.

Do they have Highland Park money, or just big 3A money? I've been to Abeline, just never to the Abeline Wylie school district.

Ive never been there either, but everytime we played them, they were so arrogant. They needed to buy an extra seat on those charter buses they ride just so there will be room for their ego.

In my opinion, I love to see a team be excellent in any sport , but when they sometimes seem to take to another level like their above everyone else it just make me forget about how good this team is, but with that said there are excellent teams that know that on any giving day that they can be beat by any ordinary team. And to me thats what truly makes an excellent team.

That is a very politically correct rankings or a realistic ranking. It appears for the first 4 rounds (top 16) each region was represented. I have no issues with 1 & 2. Notice 1-16 has four teams from Region 2, while 17 to 25 have 5 of last 9 spots.

May thoughts this is a policitally correct rankings. I believe McKinney North may have been the 3rd best team.

Pretty sure Groesbeck and Robinson should not be that high. Van beat Groesbeck like 15-4 in Feb. and Groesbeck beat Robinson. They only got to the state tournament because of a weak region. They wouldn't have finished in the top 5 in the East texas region.

lol.. Rockport has direct wins over both La Feria and Wharton.... beat Wharton 15-4. what a joke.

Who cares about the rankings. Your right they are a joke just like most rankings are. If they can't figure out college football do you think they can figure out 3A tennis?

No, Wylie has no where near the Highland Park money, but is definitely one of the wealthier 3A schools. Highland Park is nothing but wealthy, Abilene Wylie actually has rural kids and kids from moderate income levels. It is mostly middle to middle upper class, lot of military, probably around 20-25% upper class. I would guess Lucas Lovejoy would be very close economically to Wylie.

Contrary to someone else's post, they do not change the District lines to stay in 3A, Wylie ISD district lines have not changed in a long time. Fact is, Abilene as a City is experiencing very slow growth as are their two school districts (1.5 to 3% range over the past several years). Texas as a whole and especially the big metro areas are growing at double digit rates, some even over 20%. The 4A bar has moved up faster than the Abilene schools are growing. Cooper and AHS will probably be 4A soon. Cooper was 4A for two years. Both schools barely made the cut this year.

Also, Wylie has not have any kids move in just to play tennis, every kid on the team has grown up in the school district.

Military is the key. I have been told many times that if your district includes a certain amount of military students then the UIL counts each student as 3/4 of a student rather than a whole student. So they may have 3A numbers but they actually have 25% more students than what the UIL gives them credit for. So this would put them into the 4A category.

I don't think that is correct about the military, but I'm curious and will try to find out. But even so, the number of high school students that are military is probably less than 100 (which is over 10% of the students), so that would mean they report 25 less kids than they actually have. Right now they are about 100 students under the 4A mark, so I still think they are under the bar. Big Spring is actually listed as the biggest school in the district. About 8-9 years ago they missed the cut by like 10 students, but have been getting farther and farther away with each new alignment. I did read an article that stated over 400 kids transferred out of the Wylie district over to Abilene High and Abilene Cooper because those schools offer more music, art and AP classes than Wylie. The article also said that 170 were high school students and had these kids not transferred, Wylie probably would have moved up to 4A. The article also stated that kids from Clyde, Merkel and other surrounding town also transfer into AISD. Being a 5A district they just have a lot more to offer in various programs.

Ouch, #1 and #4 are both in Crandall's district.

Also, you have Kilgore listed in both region 2 and region 3 in 4A.

Good eye debragga. I copy/paste this off of the TTCA website. I do know Kilgore is in region 3, but not sure if there is a school missing in the region 2 or if that is it.
