Why they’re still here: Mesquite Poteet coach Randy Jackson called Corsicana the “Little Euless Trinity" of 4A. While the Trojans were beat by Arlington Martin in the regional semis, they have created a legacy of deep playoff runs because of the team’s size and physicality on the line. As the title suggests, Corsicana has some of the best size in 4A and can wear teams down with a relentless barrage of strength and physical play. Frisco Centennial, one of the best 4A defenses in the area, was left breathing heavily with hands on sides throughout the fourth quarter of Corsicana’s 52-31 win in the regional semifinals.

QB profile: Sophomore DeVontay Bell plays well beyond his years, quietly managing a potent, balanced offensive attack. He’s immediately noticeable for his ability to find a hole in the line and run for huge gains, but he has racked up over 1,000 yards passing this year as well. He’s a 1,000-yard rusher with 18 touchdowns this season and will be a huge part of this Corsicana squad remaining strong for several years to come.

Dominant defender: Linebacker and fullback Dominic Kelly is a solid standout on a defense that works so well together as a unit that it’s hard to single out any one player that contributes the most. Kelly gets the job done on defense with a hard-nosed attitude that has earned him the nickname “The Bull” from opposing coaches. He also has two receiving touchdowns for the Tigers while lining up at fullback.

Unsung hero: Wide receiver Christian Hines is Bell’s prime target, catching 43 passes for just over 600 yards and six scores. It’s easy for Hines to fall under the radar on a team that has so much success on the ground, but that might be just what Hines enjoys. Hines came up huge against Centennial in the first quarter when the Titans stacked the box to help on run defense.

Why they can win state: The Tigers have one of the best backs left in the 4A playoffs this side of Johnathan Gray in Cameron Washington. No matter where the Tigers line up on the field, the 2,000-yard rusher is always a threat to bust through a hole and take it to the house as he has done 42 times this year. Washington, combined with the strength and size of the offensive line, is enough to wear out any defense in the state, allowing Corsicana to run away with the game.

I thought the uil rule was if a player was ejected, he can't play in the next game. Please some one will you clear this up for me

If a player is ejected in a game, it is up to the School District and then UIL district to determine punishment, so basically the kid is going to play.

I went to youtube and watched their highlight videos..... 2 very impressive backs. Washington is as good as any RB I've seen from around here in several years, probably since Dwight Smith. But Gray is on another level. He's got a gear that I don't ever remember seeing before. I'm still pulling for Corsicana.

There is a little difference between track and football, but I agree with the getting beat part:)
