So who would win if '83 team played any of the recent 3 peat teams?

No contest, go look at the film on them, they were big, fast, quick, and just plain good. I saw them play and I am 56 years old. I have missed maybe 10 friday nights of watching high school football. They were the best I have ever seen. A once and a life time team at the high school level.

I think it would get ugly quick, just like it did for teams that played them then. Their defense allowed an average of less than ONE FOOT PER PLAY the entire 16-game season. Most of the time they had players in the opponents backfield faster than a QB could hand the ball off, and they did NOT miss tackles. On the rare occasion that they did there were always three or four more players surrounding the play to clean up the leftovers. The spread would give a maximum of 2 seconds lead time, but then they had to deal with the corners who were the best cover tandems I've ever seen.

This thread's going to go on for the rest of our lifetimes.

Yes, this debate gets brought up 2 or 3 times a year; could the '83 Tigers beat the '85 Yates team? Could they beat one of the great Longview teams? Etc. etc. Debaters try to take what offenses and defenses that were run then versus what is done now and compare. Passing is done much more so now than then. Could they defend the pass consistently? My belief is if you put that same group of guys together today, with the current trends, they would still dominate. They would adapt both offensively and defensively. For those that say, "but they were 3A and did not have the depth so they could not beat a 5A school. Do the math and either ratio 3A up or 5A down and consider the talent per capita.

Played against them in '82 and watched them play in '83.

Hands down the greatest team.

It wouldn't be close and i'm talking about the '83 team on the losing end. As dominant as they were, the recent teams would beat them soundly. Bigger, faster, stronger.

There's no question that Dangerfield was the best team ever. That team was dominant, and if they would have played the 5A Champion Converse Judson and 4A Champion Bay City.

I brought this topic up a couple of years ago and there were some good points made on why they weren't the best. There have been teams that allowed 12 points in a season and had more offensive yards. I will have to look up the old thread.

Who gets your vote and why?

Not sure really. Too say one is the most dominant would be a little too far IMO. Maybe the SLC teams of the early 00's if I had to pick one off the top.

Would it be safe to say the Ravens are the greatest dominant team in nfl history? They shut out multiple teams and shut down a good NY team in the SB.

I'm sorry my eyes never seen them play and I was 3 yrs old that yr. They are not the greatest IMO.

You never saw them play but they are not the greatest............you have to have more than that?!?!?

A team that gave up 8 points all year that was in the 1st and 3rd game of the year....shut out 14 teams including their 2nd game and the last 13 in a row...........that includes all their playoff games.......I don't know who else you would even compare them to......80 Pittsburg?.....IMO.
