I saw the DF teams of the early 80's play several times at Lobo and the Rose. Without a doubt the best coached defense that I have seen. They had great team speed and they swarmed to the ball, great size as well. Hard to argue the sucess of Big Sandy as well. Well talk about my experiences, I have coached at 4A then 3A down to 2A up to 3A then 3A again up to 4A now I am at at 5A. Guess what....they are all competitive!!!!!! It is amazing how that no matter what school I've been at, no matter what size, As long as I have comparable numbers I can compete. I don't care where you've coached. That doesn't mean anything to me. Name a 3A or 2A team that would've beat last years Tyler Lee squad. Â Please don't go on a rant about where you've coached and how you supposedly know everything. There is a reason everyone gets excited when they see their school move down a classification, and why so many get upset when they have to move up a classification. Â Â +1. For who Daingerfield was, for who they played, for the class they were in, for the talent they had (per capita), they are the most dominant team. Since you cannot seem to interpolate or extrapolate numbers according to classifications, let me make this statement. Competition is relative to size!!!!!!!!! 5a ball is tougher for Chapel Hill because they are outnumbered 5 to 1. But give Chapel Hill 5a enrollment with the same per capita talent and they would be the team that is feared. There are classifications for a reason and that is so smaller schools can compete on equal footing, which is precisely why a 3a team can be as dominate as a 5a team. In 1923 Waco Lions played the Abilene Eagles for the State Championship. This game was a rematch of the 1922 State Championship game won by Waco 13-10. These two teams were both undefeated with Waco having a 12-0 record with and offense that had scored 541 points and a defense that had allowed 0. Abilene was 11-0 with an offense that had scored 580 points and their defense had just allowed 7 points. Abilene won the game beating Waco 3-0 in a hard fought cold windy game. Abilene finished as State Champions with a record of 12-0 583 points scored only allowing 7 on defense.
