Smoaky
Mark Sartain is back as a head coach at the high school level after being approved by the Spring Hill I.S.D. school board on Monday as their new athletic director and head football coach. This will be Sartain's fourth head coaching job at the high school level, including previous stops at Cross Roads (17-11), Eustace (6-23) and White Oak (43-41). And, most recently the head football coach at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall from 2007 until resigning after the 2012 season after a 3-7 record. Sartain told David Smoak, "It's just exciting to have this opportunity and be at a place I believe is a good fit, where the experience I have at both the high school and college level has prepared me to build on their tradition and what is obviously a strong school district and community driven by high expectations." Sartain has been working within the Union Grove High School athletic department since January, "I think we can sometimes lose the focus of what coaching is about at the college level, and those four months at Union Grove fueled my fire," Sartain added, "I realized again how gratifying it is watching a young teenage student-athlete grow up physically, emotionally, and psychologically." Prior to ETBU, Sartain was the head football coach at Trinity Valley Community College from 2003-2006, including a Southwest Junior College Football Conference championship in 2005. Sartain told Smoaky.com he will get straight to business on Tuesday, meet with the coaching staff throughout the week and the students sometime on Friday. Sartain replaces Bobby Chadwick, who resigned after one year as AD/Football Coach to work at East Texas Charter School.

Golfingnut
Congrats to Mark!!! The Panthers are getting a great coach, but an even greater man!!!
FriscoFan
great coach, great man, the panthers will be competitive quick He may be a great coach and man, but the Panthers have absolutely nothing coming up. I had to sit through the 7th and 8th grade games last year, and they were brutal. I think the 8th grade scored one touchdown ALL SEASON, ironically, it was against Gilmer. I'm hoping he turns it around, but knowing what he has coming up and being in THAT district, don't expect much.

They have some big boys coming up, but they are lacking execution at the QB,RB,WR positions in the lower grades. Good coaching could correct this, but it will take a while. I also had to suffer through the last year with the 7th and 8th grade with a nephew playing for them. Taking nothing away from the kids playing those positions ... they play their hearts out. TxFight
Coach Sartain has a history of doing more with less. Had good seasons at Cross Roads and White Oak. If given time he can make a good change
