After 3 quarters: North Lamar 53, Pleasant Grove 36

Looks like Panthers will wrap up No. 1 seed tonight.

That just leaves the remaining seeds to be decided. Paris win at L-E would make Paris the No. 2 seed with L-E and PG to decide Nos. 3-4. L-E win over Paris would make PG the No. 4 seed and leave it up to Paris and L-E to decide Nos. 2-3.

Final score: North Lamar 60, Pleasant Grove 51. Versache Buchanan leads NL with 22 points. Congratulations to the Panthers.

NL (as No. 1) and the No. 4 seed gets easier quarterfinal bracket. Nos. 2 and 3 seeds face potential area round matchups with Kilgore and Athens, respectively.

Congrats to the NL Panthers for their first district championship in 30 years, kind of ironic that the AD is being removed in particular for non performance , lack of participation/ interest by kids in team sports. But then what better incentive for a coach left behind in the AD removal knowing a new boss is coming to town that will have the directive to stimulate student interest and drive performance or winning whatever you choose to call it.

Paris (boys) beat Liberty-Eylau, 63-56, tonight to close out another district campaign. So, the final standings:

  • North Lamar, Paris 8-2 (NL wins tiebreaker and No. 1 seed)
  • Pleasant Grove, Liberty-Eylau 6-4 (assume they will settle Nos. 3-4 seeds, if they haven't already)
  • Atlanta 2-8
  • Pittsburg 0-10

In girls basketball, Paris beat Emory Rains 46-35. I heard Pitt lost to Crandall and NL lost to Quinlan Ford last night. PG beat Wills Point Monday. Paris plays Kilgore next (probably Friday at Mount Pleasant), while PG plays Bullard.

According to Texarkana Gazette, L-E "lost" coin flip for 3rd and will be 4th seed (No. 4 seed seems to have less rigorous pathway in playoffs). Anyway...bi-district boys pairings are:

  1. NL vs. Emory Rains
  2. Paris vs. Crandall (tentatively set for Tuesday at McKinney North)
  3. PG vs. Kaufman
  4. L-E vs. Wills Point

North Lamar is the last team standing from this district. They've won their bi-district and area round contests by 46 and 39 points respectively. Only Brownsboro, who finished runner-up to Athens in district 15, stands between them and the bright lights of Commerce. Commerce!

Has North Lamar ever made it to regionals before? What a crazy, upside down world this surely is. Game is Tuesday at 7 in Wills Point per TPN. Good luck Panthers.
