Tatum's played 3 games in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Sweet.

Yes and what I saw Tatum was very lucky. It may the last round they win. Central Heights big was pretty good inside and the next round if the team is balanced.......whew

I don't know. I guess all those beating up on weak _____ teams and running the score didn't help when you face good teams. But did do better than coach Dee, one and done.

Yes Central Heights big man was good but you also gotta realize is that Tatum had probably its worst shooting game of the season and still managed to put up 56 points tonight. But of course everybody still wants to bring up district games and talk about we just beat up on weaker teams smh. We are in the playoffs survive and move on and were moving on to THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT!

There goes the obligatory "beating up on weak teams" comment. I knew someone would say it like they always do, and lo and behold, it's our old buddy 2Old2appreciateLife. Your jealousy issues toward Tatum are so deep that I wonder if you have any joy in your life when it comes to high school athletics.

"Things didn't go our way in the second half but they remained poised down the stretch and won by doing the little things - Blocking out, hitting free throws, execution and urgency." - coach Carr on last nights third round victory

I think the best thing that happened at the end last night was when Jahee Johnson took a charge. Tatum didn't get to shook a bonus free throw, so instead they inbounded the pass to Robbie Rockwell. He got fouled and drained two free throws to go up. There is no one I'd rather have at the line than the best shooter in the state. Great consciousness by Chaston Brooks to inbound to Rockwell.

WHITEHOUSE You have to turn the calendar back to 2013 to find a game where the Tatum Eagles were challenged like they were in their regional quarterfinal game Tuesday night at Wildcat Arena.

Entering on a 19-game winning streak, all by double digits, Tatum had to claw until the final buzzer to punch its ticket to the regional tournament with a 56-54 victory over Central Heights.

We thought it would be a tough game, and it was, Tatum head coach Brett Carr said. The officials made some interesting calls both ways. But you have to give (Central Heights) credit. They took it to us.

Tatum, which came in averaging 80 points per game, was held to just five points in the third quarter but still maintained a 43-40 advantage heading into the final quarter.

We changed a couple of things at halftime, and we looked completely out of sync to start the third quarter, Carr said.

And in the fourth quarter, Central Heights never went away, but also never gained the lead.

Martin Williams put back a missed shot to open the fourth quarter, pushing the Tatum lead to 45-40, but Central Heights answered two minutes later with a three-pointer from Duke Ellis. From that point forward, Tatums lead never got to more than four points.

The Blue Devils cut the deficit to one point on four separate occasions, the latest with 39 seconds remaining, when Harrison Perkins cleaned up a missed three by Tanner Garner to make it 53-52 in favor of the Eagles. After a made free throw from Klifton Willis made it 54-52 with 30 seconds left, Perkins attacked the basket and made his attempt, but the officials called a charge, giving the ball to Tatum.

The Eagles inbounded to senior sharpshooter Robbie Rockwell, who calmly made two free throws.

When you have a 90 percent free-throw shooter, you expect him to finish it at the line, Carr said. Robbie came up clutch.

The Blue Devils got a layup by Garner in the final seconds to trim the score to 56-54, but the Eagles were able to throw the ball long and run off the final seconds.

This was No. 2 Tatums first single-digit win since an 87-80 victory over Jacksonville on Dec. 21, 2013, the same day the Eagles later dropped a 74-67 decision to Marshall Tatums last loss.

I was concerned how we would handle it, Carr said. And then when Chaston (Brooks) fouled out, I was interested to see how the other guys would respond. Klifton really stepped up, and we were able to hang on.

Willis scored five of his seven points in the fourth quarter and was able to penetrate the Central Heights defense to set up scoring opportunities for his teammates.

Brooks finished with 11 points, and Rockwell added eight points, including two first-quarter threes.

Rockwells second three late in the first quarter gave Tatum (32-4) an 18-10 lead.

The Eagles kept at least a two-possession lead the entire second quarter and used a step-back three from Brooks to take a 38-29 lead into halftime. But in the third quarter, Keaton Fontenot scored seven of his game-high 17 points to help Central Heights outscore Tatum 11-5.

Garner had 11 points for the Blue Devils (20-15), and Perkins scored 10 points.

A big key for the Eagles was their work on the offensive glass, where they held an 18-2 edge. Central Heights only had 21 total rebounds.

Tatum will face Marlin, a 51-50 winner over Salado on Tuesday, at 7 p.m. Friday at Stephen F. Austins William R. Johnson Coliseum in Nacogdoches.

Seeing how I know who you are bluetooth, I will respond to your post. I agree ya'll don't pick who your district opponent is, but if you believe in Life, you have to know that "what goes around

comes around." Also Tatum was terrible in the 3rd quarter. but did come back in the 4th. And the comment about 101 Dee and UG, they are prof why there should only be 3 teams going to the

play-off's. Football, one and done in a blow out, girls go one and done and now boys go one and done. FYI: Marlin has a inside game and are pretty decent.
