Sprinter Kevin Harris Signs With Baylor Track & Field

Harris owns nation’s No. 1 prep time in the 200-meters in 2014.

WACO, Texas – For the second time in two weeks, Baylor track and field head coach Todd Harbour has signed one of the nation’s top sprinters. On Tuesday, Harbour announced the signing of Kevin Harris (Texarkana, Texas) to a National Letter of Intent for the 2014-15 season.

"We are very, very excited to have Kevin in the Baylor family," Harbour said. “We are looking forward to him coming in and joining a great group of sprinters.”

Harris is a senior at Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas. He currently owns the nation’s No. 1 prep time in the 200-meter dash with a wind-aided mark of 20.68.

Harris is the two-time reigning champion at the 200-meter distance at the Texas 4A Region 2 meet. He finished sixth at the 2013 Texas 4A state meet in the event. This season, he has helped the Texas High 4x100 and 4x200-meter relay teams to the nation’s fourth and third fastest times, respectively.

“Kevin is one of the top 200-meter runners in the state of Texas and the nation,” associate coach Michael Ford said. “He will help us in the short sprints and both relays next season. He will be a great 1-2 punch with our other signee Malik Wilson.”

Harris’ signing comes just 13 days, after BU added Malik Wilson of Brenham, Texas. Wilson won the district title for Brenham in both the 100 and 200-meter events with wind-aided times of 10.33 and 20.85, respectively. Those marks are third and second in Texas at the high school level in 2014.

Next year, both Harris and Wilson will join current freshman Trayvon Bromell, who has the fastest 100-meter time in the NCAA at 10.01. BU’s 4x100-meter relay team of Bromell, Blake Heriot, Everett Walker and Alex Reece currently owns the NCAA’s fifth-best mark at 39.09.
