cats69
And rightfully so, the 2nd basemen position was unsteady and the 1st base position was even worse. JD is lucky Fielder had a medical condition that was fixable. What if this neck/back thing weren't fixable? He'd really be on a hot seat right about now... Totally moot. Because it WAS fixable. KellyLeak
The point being it was fixable and with the fix he has returned to his previous form. Kinsler did just what I said he would last year, great till August then start his slide to end the season. It has been a yearly occurrence for several years. Now his numbers have dipped to start the season. Maybe he picks it up but right now the trade looks onesided, and that side would be the Rangers side. Odor has struggled but an area of strength for the organization is in the middle infield. If Profar comes back and Odor regains form along with the young guys in organization they can find a 2nd baseman. Power is very hard to find in todays game. Middle INF depth? Don't even mention Profar, he'll never play again. We've seen the depth the Rangers have brought up, it goes right back down. There is no Elvis in waiting. Elvis came up and played well. These other INFs are just defensive guys. Maybe Gallo can break up that streak of coming up with high expectations then going right back down. Stoney
I have more faith in Odor rebounding than Profar playing again, let alone to the level expected of him 2 years ago. We had a small sample size on Fielder. What we saw wasnt good. We can blame the injury, the shifts, he just wasnt that good. 2014 happened and it wasnt pretty. 2015 we've had a larger sample size and Fielder is paying dividends. You had a orginazitional hole at 1B. You had a glut of infield prospects. With the loss of Hamilton, the total lack of production offensively in 2013, JD making the trade was a win/win for the team. Profar going down, Fielders injury/lack of production-You don't expect that. You start questioning the value of a healthy player(Kinsler) versus two high profile ghosts. It's very easy to question and to blame. If JD got the blame in 2014, he has to get some credit for 2015.

I wouldn't say an organizational hole, because Moreland is still the best defender, and he is seemingly finding a way out of his hitting woes. Stoney
Moreland had 1B had lockdown. There was nobody in the farm system pushing Moreland like Profar was Kinsler. That's all I meant.

I see what you are saying. The organizational hole still exists then. There aren't any real "blue-chip" minor leaguers that we have for first base. Stoney
No there's not but if Prince & Mitch can stay healthy & produce then that's one less thing to worry about.
