GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW:

And the rematch begins. The Lobos and Panthers meet for a school record (for both teams) 8th time in post season play as the two teams enter 5A Division I post-season play. Longview, on an 8-game winning streak, has for the most part dominated opposition since knocking off Monroe Neville in Shreveport's Independence Stadium back in the middle of September. The Lobos ended 15-5A play with a perfect 7-0 record and outscored opponents 370-93. Along the way, the Lobos picked up their 36 district title and the #1 seed in 15-5A for Division I…Longview's 11th consecutive #1 seed in the post season. Lufkin has seen a somewhat different route. Since dominating their first two games, including a 44-14 win over these same Lobos, the Panthers walked into Independence Stadium the same day Longview did and left with a 7 point loss to John Curtis. That coupled with losses to Nacogdoches the next week, John Tyler and Ennis has seen another up and down season for the Panthers who have not completed a season with less than four losses since 2011. Despite that, the Panthers ended the regular season with a two-game winning streak against Corsicana and Jacksonville. And so it comes ahead, the Lobos and Panthers will see each other in post season play where Lufkin has a 4-3 edge in all-time postseason meetings. Only two of the meetings have been in recent time, where Lufkin picked up wins in their 2002 and 2004 post season meetings. In 2002, Lufkin built a 14-0 edge early before Longview roared back in the second half to grab a 21-14 lead. However, the Panthers added a touchdown in the fourth to tie the game up before kicking the game winning field goal with 5 seconds remaining to win 24-21. In 2004, it was Longview who ran out to an early lead with Vondrell McGee adding two touchdowns early on for a 14-0 lead. However, Lufkin scored 10 points late in the 1st half and added another in the 3rd quarter to take a 17-14 lead. Despite Malcolm Kelly giving Longview the lead late in the 3rd quarter again at 21-17, the Pack took over the 4th quarter scoring two touchdowns to end Longview's 12-0 season at 31-21. From 1936 to 1947, the Lobos and Panthers met five times in post season play with the Lobos winning 3 of the 5. In 1936, just the third meeting between the two teams, Panthers picked up a 12-0 victory in Longview. In 1937, Longview picked up a 19-0 victory in Lufkin. In 1940, Lufkin grabbed a 12-7 lead head into the fourth quarter before the Lobos' Fambrough and Bivins added fourth quarter scores to win 19-12 in Longview. In 1942, Abe Martin's Lufkin Panthers never gave Longview a chance rolling to a 33-0 win at Panther Stadium. And in 1947, Jimmy Pakenham and the following extra point by Fox Cashell gave the Lobos a 7-6 victory over the heavily favored Panthers at Lobo Stadium. The two teams now head to a stadium that is more than familiar to them….Rose Stadium. Longview returns to the Rose for the first time since defeating Tyler Lee 52-6 in 2012. Since losing to Lufkin in 2002, Longview has won 14 consecutive games in Tyler including two post-season games. Overall, Longview has won 16 of their last 17 games at Rose Stadium (and 3 bi-district championships). Longview is 41-25-1 all-time at Rose Stadium since it's opening in 1948. Lufkin, however, hasn't found that same success as of late. Already losing there once this season, the Pack have lost three consecutive games at Rose Stadium (twice to John Tyler and once to Tyler Lee)…with their last win coming in 2011 (a 38-20 win over Tyler Lee). Another place Longview has found success as of late compared to Lufkin is in bi-district ball games. Longview enters Friday's contest riding a wave of 8 consecutive bi-district championships, with their last loss coming in 2005 to South Garland. King is 9-1 all-time in bi-district contests. Lufkin, who had won 8 of 9 bi-district contests from 1998 to 2006, has suffered first round losses in 5 of their last 7 seasons and experienced just three playoff wins since 2007. Coach Quick comes in at 1-1 in bi-district games, and a 4-2 playoff record overall.

The lobos should be the favorites though, since they've been scoring about 70 a game against that tough competition in 15-5A. The defense is probably the best in the state too. It will probably be a blowout like Lion said, he's usually right about these things. The Pack probably shouldn't even show up to Tyler on friday.

We're lucky to even be in the playoffs.

Not far from the truth after almost losing to Whitehouse lol.

Nope though, Lufkin will win by 65. 16-5A is the greatest thing since the dinosaurs walked the earth. So toughhhhh. We will crumble at the slightest mention of the word Lufkin. That shutout win over Corsicana was TERRIFYING!!

No man I mean Lufkin is the clear favorite yall play in the toughest district in the galaxy. Nac was the third place team and they whipped hallsville by one whole point then lost to Jacksonville who is amazing and beat 0-9 mt pleasant by 2 whole points.....and then Nac beat lufkin o man yea Nac is so awesome.

Then lufkin only gave up 45 to the mighty whitehouse wildcats who beat Texas high by 3 whole points.

They held the mighty Eagles to only 28 points who only scored more against Nac!...great defensive effort there the Lobos will be lucky to score!

O but man ennis is a great team indeed and barely beat lufkin scoring 55 points. Ennis only scored more than that one other game and it was to the mighty Nac dragons! Longview is so screwed!

AND lufkin just crushed the juggernaut that is Corsicana! Why should Longview even show up?

Longview gets hasty back? O well!!! Man he is a scrub that won't even matter cause lufkin got 4th place in the best district like EVER and that defense they have is just special. No brainer here lufkin wins easy! Where will they play JT in the 4th round?

Very true.

Two losses in a row to Nacogdoches, and haven't even seen the like of a quarterfinal game in nearly a decade!! But don't worry, Lufkin is SUPER battled tested. Despite losing to every good team they've played this season, Lufkin should just absolutely romp Longview!!!!!

We were far from a good team in week one. I think we have come a long ways but who really knows with the level of competition we've had in district. Ennis is a state championship caliber team. Unfortunately they are going to meet up with Aledo.

Very legit chance pur district goes 0-4. Longview is our only hope.

I pray I'll be watching Marshall and Nac play this night at Pine Tree Stadium........ (or something about maybe facing Ennis......UGH).

But if not....... I'll be at this game.

Who to cheer for though.....Hmmmm...... lmao.
