MoveTheChain
Agree. Both basketball teams made the playoffs coming in 2nd place. Kudos to the boys since they didn't really start playing until district. Both girls & boys track teams should win district again and make state. Baseball & softball are steady. What else are ya'll looking for, geesh. You left out the swim team. :D

ScotlandtheBrave
You left out the swim team. :D Not only that, but you both left out the new Gilmerite soccer team! As evidenced by this recent shootout, whatever the Buckeyes might lack in soccer skill, they will more than make up with soccer determination! Watch BuckeyeBob's nephew and football backup linebacker and special teams specialist, Scott Sterling, here in a recent match!:

ScotlandtheBrave
This could be an area of change...Jeff said we would never have soccer cause it took away from football...new regime, new thought process...Gilmer with soccer...mmmmmmm Thanks for playing along BuckeyeBob. In the words of another excellent player and coach: "If God had wanted man to play soccer, He wouldn't have given us arms." Mike Ditka On the other hand, on occasion those soccer ball players can come in handy!: https://youtu.be/--k0dopLKvM As other posters have stated here, I believe without a doubt that Gilmer will not skip a beat and the tradition will continue under the tutelage of another outstanding coach. Best of success to Coach Jeff Traylor moving forward as well! Thanks for the memories and we will be looking to follow you on Saturdays sir! DeZign8! milktheclock17
Could not imagine a more deserving coach in the state. Coach Turner is well respected throughout the state and is one of the sharpest offensive minds in the profession. Could have taken nearly any head coaching job in the state if he wanted to. Gilmer is very lucky to have him. Good luck Coach Turner
milktheclock17
Don't know much about Turner. Where has he been a Head Coach before and what is his career record? Is he an older Coach? Offensive Coordinator for years in East Texas. One of the sharpest football minds in the state. No head coaching experience that I am aware of. buckeyebob
Don't forget District Wins...68-2....but my opinion of the best...16 years without an athlete ineligible for grade issues...among all sports, male & female...Turner will not see a hick-up

buckeyebob
Keep in mind that for 16 years, Turner has been Offensive Coordinator...950 points last season. 59.4 average per game, 8,500 yds...now, HC & AD...we shall see

There may be some that are more highly thought of but like Bum said about Earl, I don't know how many are in his class but it does not take long to call the roll. I really hope that the rumors of coaches looking to leave is not true, unless of course they are doing so to improve some aspect of their lives. The entire Coaching Staff is what made Gilmer so dang good the last few years and Coach Traylor would be the first to agree with that. It still cracks me up that Jeff Traylor was as close as you can be to taking another job two weeks before he got the Gilmer gig and if that had happened how different would history be? Jeff must really be on good speaking terms with the Lord, by passing on job A which is one of the biggest coaching graveyards in the state he goes to Gilmer, on to UT, and eventually I am sure into the THSCA Hall of Honor. Life is hysterical sometimes, no?

I'm guessing the Admin. Didn't look for an outside candidate with HC experience, to keep the status quo. If some of the other Coaches are leaving, along with Coach Traylor heading south, this has to be concerning for Buckeye nation.
BuckNut
If coaches leave I am sure there will be good coaches that would like to come to Gilmer and work with Matt Turner. Good facilities, great pay, good fellow coaches to work with, great tradition, great athletes who work their butts off, and a chance to work for a guy like Turner might attract a few applicants.
