Lufkin is young and will need to fill the shoes of about 35 graduating seniors. They have much work to do with a new DC on board. The scrimmage lasted less than 2 quarters due to a game ending thunderstorm. So, what we did see was lots of young guys trying to find their way in live action. Looked real good at times, then you would see just the opposite. There is some young talent in this group, just have wait and see.

I attended Whitehouses Spring Game. I am not sure what I saw because I am not used to the progression of one year to the next. From my viewpoint, on offense we looked very well rounded. The line seemed big enough, other than the left tackle, and I wonder if he was filling in for someone or he may just be that good. Two running backs were excellent, two different tight ends were big and good and the receivers seemed a little confused at times, but there were so many being paraded in it was hard to tell. The fastest man in the district was in his street clothes because of track, he plays slot receiver I believe. Two of the QB's seemed quite good, a third was close behind them and the fourth QB seemed to be developing. I do not know if they played in their ranking or not. The second QB I thought looked most like Pat Mahomes, if that will be what all QB's will be compared to. He looked very shifty, patient, not afraid to take a hit and just overall looked more comfortable than the others. I believe his name is Roach. He looked about 6'2 and the first team ( if that is how they played them) looked maybe 6'3. The third string with the most interesting aura about him looked like he'd throw it 70 times a game if needed, he seemed to be about 6' even and built like a linebacker. He was good also. Again, this is just an opinion of someone that likes HS football and knows a little bit. The number 2 and 3 QB's were tossing it 45 to 50 yards with a little effort at halftime warmups. Ironically, WR #85 looked to have a better arm than any of them, he was zipping it around with force on a 30 yard pass like a pro. As far as the defense goes, I couldn't tell who was with who most of the time, but the right defensive end on what is probably the 1st team is very impressive. Big, fast, hitter, quick and so on. Amazing. The corners seemed tight in coverage, the linebackers seemed to get to the ball quick and the overall defense seemed quick. I was watching the offense a little more, sorry. They were in the backfield a lot. My overall impression was that most of the so called lineman that played well seemed big enough, and our RBs were really impressive, and good luck on deciding who starts at QB. I don't know what grades any of the players were, but is seemed that the famous over the top sideline pass to the WR's was off all night. I was impressed and feel we'll be good. In our district you need to be better than good. Not sure about the safeties, because we had such a stud last year. Oh well, that is my measly opinion. Go Cats.

I thought the fastest man in district was from JT

I stand corrected thanks, 2nd fastest in district, as far as 100 meters which is what I meant.

100 meters: 1. Mosley, John Tyler 10.73, 2. Smith, Whitehouse 10.80, 3. Hasty, Longview 10.96, 4. Miller, John Tyler 11.01

Mosley is a senior however, so Smith enters next year as the fastest.

Just for clarification, first QB is Bullard, second is Mimms, and Roach is 3rd. 1st team O-Line is very small, in fact overall team is small, that is why they appear to be "big enough." From the stands size can be deceiving. DE is Jared Remedies, he is a hard nosed player, wish we had 11 of him, and a great young man. With that said he is 5'11 225ish. Overall defense is down from last year and in my opinion, we do not have the talent to run the wide open offense and will struggle this year. I hope I am wrong but I think it is going to be a long year. At least we got the AD right, now if they will just let him do his job things can turn back around in WH.

Shows you what I know about the QB. So was Bullard # 18 or # 12. Roach looked the natural, but as you say, sitting in the stands can be deceiving and he may have played against the weaker D's. I didn't think 18 had the arm strength of Roach or #12. But I don't coach, and I thought the line looked about 240 to 260, so to say Remedies is only 225 it does put everything into perspective. He is a player. I thought 3 of the receivers looked OK, with one imitating the OKie player that got busted. thanks for the info

How exactly does the spring game go? Were there freshman playing at all. I didn't mean to imply that Remedies is only 225, I figured he was 6'2 ish around 230 or so, he is something to behold. Well Cook's honeymoon is over and we'll see what he pull out of his bag of tricks. I've heard he is a good coach. My daughter graduates and I have watched and feel in love with the Cats football team the last 4 years. I still think 2 running backs were excellent, and 2 tight ends looked impressive and seemed big, # 22 and I believe #8, or 13, I've slept since then. So it might be rebuilding for all teams, watch Lindale win it all with their big ol line. OK Foosball, who were the two tightends, and there were 2 healthy sized kids in the line on the second or 3rd team. Again, thanks for the input

where were we getting hurt with the last AD if you don't mind me asking. I am not privy to this kind of information and since we have been winning until last year, are you suggesting it was based on some decisions made by the AD?

Sorry, second QB is Minor, he is #12, got used to hearing Minor to Mimms last year watching JV and mixed the two up. We do have some big linemen on 2nd and 3rd team but they do not "fit in" with the offense. We don't use a TE so I'm not sure who you are talking about, maybe Isaiah Clark, I will check the #s. As far as the AD goes, I don't won't to get in to that on here. Will be out of pocket for the rest of today, will check tonight if I have time. (Not ignoring responses, just time crunched at the moment.)

Copeland as the new AD will be a breath of fresh air. At least he knows the difference between a 4-3 and a 3-4. Peacock was a basic basketball idiot at best. Of course, I've said all along that is what Whitehouse wanted to go back to. For Whitehouse to have named him as their AD was just stupid. Just gives you some of the background to McFarlin being fired, Cook being hired, and Peacock being named AD in the split. It was all a train wreck just waiting for a track to be out of line. ALL THIS WAS JUST STUPID! Whitehouse may can rebound now, with Copeland. He knows what it takes and can give some direction. He will have to take Cook by the hand and help him a little, but they should work good together. I look for Whitehouse to be in the mix a little now. I didn't get to see the Spring Game, but damn glad they at least made a wise decision on the AD. That was a homerun and step "back" in the right direction. Let's just hope he can help the football direction now! Barry Switzer......aka, Adam Cook, needs some help!

not that we didn't come close to making the playoffs last year. Almost beat Lufkin at their house, punched state champ Ennis in the mouth and did great for 3 quarters against Nac.
