There is an 11 person committee that we'll receive 10 applicants to interview and select the final 2 canidates to present to the superintendent to select a finalist.

The committee is made up of the 4 campus principles. They will select 1 member each from their campus. The athletic booster president and 2 at large community members. 1 member is a players father and the other is a mom of past players.

Good grief, what a cluster!!!!!

Agreed Dawg. From what I saw, the team will not be built around the QB from last year. He threw interceptions and fumbled the ball all while doing his best to avoid contact.

Playactionpass sounds like he might be the dad of one of these kids if not the QB dad. Also, Playaction, have you spoken to any of the coaches to ask them questions? Just curious because from what I know about the staff, any of them would be happy to answer anything you have for them.

I am not a parent of any kid in ND and to tell you the truth, I can't say for sure that I have ever been in ND. I am a high school football coach with no dog in the fight, just observing. I have worked for multiple coaches who can't handle any form of criticism because they lack the ability to justify their own decisions.

My comments were not aimed at the coaching staff at ND what so ever.

Y'all looking for a football coach or just a baseball coach that coaches football?

Waskom hired a soccer coach. Look where there at now. A good coach can coach anything. Carlisle hired a baseball coach and look what they have done lately! JS Joey Hector is serious and could coach any sport anytime for me. Would be great for the kids but the politics would have to be done with.

Well, playaction, I for one find it hard to believe you are a coach being that you are running down many in the profession. From the coaches I was coached by and those I have known for a long time, including those that coached my sons, coaching is like family and a true coach doesn't run others down in the profession. I'd hate to know you were ever on a staff that coached my sons since you would turncoat any chance you got.

As I have said before though, good luck kids and keep working hard. In the end, it will be as much about how bad you want it as it is about who will be leading you.

Have I mentioned anybody by name?

Sounds to me like your kids have been coached by the same kind of coaches I'm talking about. Those that can do no wrong and you have to follow along blindly like a puppy and have unyielding faith in. Somebody that is so arrogant that they can't even listen to a little criticism without having a cussing tirade and throwing chairs across the floor. Not the kind of coaches I want coaching my kids and definitely not the kind of coaches I want to work with.

I am pretty sure I know him also and I believe that all he is trying to say is that us coaches need to realize there are going to be people that disagree with us and that's OK. If everyone was just like me, who would I argue with.

And if ND could be lucky enough to hire a coach like him, they could be very successful.

Every coach that has coached anything from Little League to professional football knows there will be people that disagree with him. That is just a given. My problem is that he insinuated that the coaches at ND were throwing little hissy fits at people's suggestions. As I said, I bet he has not tried to sit down and talk with them. It is one thing to disagree but from the games that I attended, fans were running down the coaches and the players. Diana has its share of supportive fans, but the non supportive ones by far overpower the comments and suggestions. If play action is a Coach, I will compare him to the magician that gets on TV behind a mask and gives away the trade secrets of the other magicians. It is never okay to stab your family members in the back.

And for the record, my sons played for very successful coaches who they felt would go to Hell and back for them. My sons would have for them too.

That's what we call respect.

I am a coach and I would never stab another coach in the back. If I don't like how my boss does his job then I move on. I am as loyal as they come when the situation or leader deserves loyalty. I have no knowledge of the ND situation and I would never support fans or parents "running down" a coach. I do believe that as a Head Coach/Athletic Director you have to open your office door to the public and listen to the concerns and complaints. All I have ever said is that I believe coaches have very thin skin when it comes to dealing with people who disagree with them. As a coach we have to be very confident in our abilities if we are going to be good at our job, however there are way too many coaches who take that to the level of arrogance and refuse to listen to anybody, including other coaches on their staff.

And thank you to the coaches who know me that came to my defense. If you truly know me then you know that the kids I coach will run through walls for me and that it is always about the kids and never about me. That is why I will always listen to little Johnny's parents gripe and complain, because it ultimately is about the kids.

As a coach, for the most part, it's not tough to hear out complaints and address concerns. When people start making things up like false stats or false information to take back to their "hey look at me" group, then it starts getting a little hairy. I worked for Coach Ratliff for 2 years. He is a great guy to work for. Took excellent care of his staff. Great coach and even better man.

I agree with you 100% on false accusations or false stats. No coach should have to deal with that. I have never said anything negative about Coach Ratliff and I never will. All of my comments have been generalities and observations from other situations I have been privy too. I don't know Coach Ratliff personally, but I believe you when you say he is a great man. Most in our profession are.

Maybe if you have spent your career as an asst and a coordinator, and you know you have what it takes to lead and inspire student athletes, why would you not want to run your on program. Is ND that bad of a place? I have been there and it seems like a pretty good place.

Hey playaction have you applied for the job

Sorry I am bit slow in responding, I was at NRG. I have a pretty good gig, in fact it was tough to watch Yoe and Brock and know that your own team could have competed very well against either one of them. Offensively we would have moved the ball and scored points on both (lots of points), defensively we may have struggled, and that is why we weren't there. But, if someone knows who I am and thinks I would be a good fit at ND, then I would listen.

Every coach has to believe that they would compete. But in the end, when they don't, they can never admit it was the system. But then again, why did Tatum go 0-10? They had a lot of distractions......

Regarding the use of a 10/11 person committee to select the new coach. WHAT are they THINKING? They are going to turn that process in to a three ring circus. Last comment about that... will that same 10/11 person committed be there 5 years from now to tell the 'one' they choose he needs to move on if it does not work out? No... that would be left to the superintendent to do I'm sure. I'm not a fan of the committee process folks. That school, like all schools, has a leader. His decisions should be backed. Good luck, Diana.

Yes there will be people around in 5 years from the committee. Half the committee have been here the last 5 years. Is the the best scenero to select a coach? Maybe maybe not. Time will tell. A few in the community stired the pot enough for change. Now they will reap the reward or possible failure of this process they wanted. I personally will do my best to do what's in the best interest of the athletic program and my kids. I have been involved closely with the program for the last 4 years and plan to continue the volunteer work I do. We need more to support the program to develop it into something special.

I have two great friends that are highly successful head coaches. One is a division 1 head coach and the other is a high school head coach. Both will tell you that everybody wants to win but very few kids, schools, communities, administrators, or parents want to do what it takes. Hard work, toughness, and discipline are all great until it gets put on their kid or somebody that wears a suit has to field questions from a parent, booster or board member. My guess is that being competitive athletically isnt important until friday night in nd and that hard work is for somebody elses kid or most likely the parents in nd cant be reasonable about their own lack of dna when they look in the mirror.

Well it seems as if the committee might as well be made up of 2 from what I gathered over the holidays while visiting friends. One of the committee members has been telling others that he and another committee member (also a board me member) have narrowed down the applicants to whom they feel will best fit the district. Then I heard one of them even was talking particulars and negotiating employment particulars over lunch this past weekend. Not real sure about the ethics of all of this but this process has been a farce from the beginning. If it was me that was being catered to, i believe i would pull my apllication immediately. I'd hate to know I was going to be going to a school to where I was going to be working for a couple of parents in the district.

Now it seems ND will very possibly playing on a turf field and running on a new track next year. Granted from what I have seen, the stadium needs upgrades but so do the schools. Half I don't pay taxes there or I'd have to attend a meeting or 2.
