GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Week eight is underway. After a bye week for all of 11-6A, the Lobos and Stallions meet for the first time since 2013 at the same place they met just three years ago…Mesquite’s Memorial Stadium. The Lobos (5-1) come in as the lone undefeated squad remaining in the district while North Mesquite’s (3-3) big upset of Rockwall Heath pulled them back into the four-way tie for 2nd place in the district at 2-1. A big reason for the Stallions victory was the return of starting quarterback, Ja’Quez Gooch, who was previously injured against Arlington Bowie a little over a month ago. Longview comes into their 7th game of the season off the heels of a big 36-29 win over Rockwall. The Lobo defense need two big defensive stands in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. The win marked Longview’s 36th consecutive victory at Lobo Stadium in district games and improved the Lobos to 69-4 all-time under John King in district games. One of those four losses came at the hands of North Mesquite, back in 2010 at Mesquite Memorial Stadium thanks to a guy named Joe Bergeron. That night, despite holding a 14-3 lead head into the 4th quarter, saw the Stallions rip apart the Lobo defense in the final frame in route to 21 unanswered points. Since that loss, the Lobos have outscored the Stallions by a combined 138-38 in the three games. The two schools meet for the 12th time on Friday night, in a series that dates back to 1971 in a season that saw just second year program North Mesquite pull off the victory 36-23 at Lobo Stadium. The two schools wouldn’t meet again until 1988 in a non-district series that saw the Lobos and Stallions split games. North Mesquite pulled off the dominating win in 1988, 28-14, at Lobo Stadium. Longview, however, came back in 1989 and rallied from a 12-0 deficit entering the fourth quarter to take home the win 15-12 at Mesquite Memorial. The two schools would have to wait until the UIL realignment of 2004 to meet again, where Longview has won the 7 of the 8 district contests between the two teams since. The Lobos will be looking to pull off their fourth straight win over the Stallions and move to 4-0 in district play as Longview continues to fight for their 12th district championship in 13 years.

Said this would be our toughest district game before the season, I'll stick with it. No score prediction, but we win.

I just hope we're not caught overlooking a talented NM squad. Because the week after, there will be cameras everywhere in Longview for Texas DQ Big Game of The Week against JT.

Why?

Memories of 2005 vs South Garland

Memories of 2010 vs North Mesquite

Just bad, bad memories.

Nearly every game we have there has been way way closer than it should've been (2005 vs North, 2006 vs North, 2006 vs Mesquite, 2007 vs Horn wasn't close but it shouldn't of even been that close, 2013 vs North has no business being close).

Longview fans should keep an eye on Westbrook-Lufkin Friday.

Will pretty much determine who we'd play in the 1st round.

You or JT and I guess Horn too, if they beat JT. If we do what we're supposed to do against WB and JT wins this week though, I may go to the Lobo game next week to see that one. Huge game..

I wonder if next week game will be as packed as that last one in what was that 2010 or something I remember I had to sit on the hill

I figure it'll be more like 2005.

Will be sold out for sure.

I will bring you a Green hoodie!!! You can't let Mav outdo ya !! And I need to know if I need to save you and your sidekick seats!!!!

Green hoodie??? Never lol. I think y'all threatened poor Mav and made him wear that hoodie, I'm leaving that one alone though lol. As for the seats, I thought those were sold out on the home side?? I'll let you know if we're coming though.
