Well great season for the Buckeyes. Now for a few quick observations:

1. Sweetwater had a great game plan. They dropped their linebackers deep and into the passing zones. Gilmer had 3 interceptions. 2 of them by linebackers dropping into coverage, & one of those was turned into a pick 6.

2. Gilmer didn't adjust on defense soon enough. In the 2nd half, they went to a 4-2 with 5 defensive backs in press coverage. That slowed down Sweetwater a lot but it was too late. The Sweetwater touchdown with 9 seconds before the half was a killer.

3. Gilmer had to play from behind most of the game, but I thought they abandoned the run too soon. No running threat allowed the linebackers to start retreating at the snap.

4. Gilmer made a lot of mistakes but many of those mistakes were forced by Sweetwater. Sweetwater made a lot of false start penalties but other than that played mistake free. They won because they played better. Simple as that.

Great season for Gilmer. No shame in 3 straight semifinal appearances.

A very sound and keen assessment QB should have been able to read what the LBs were doing so as to adjust and therefore prevent throwing INTs. Surely the coaches must have seen that happening????

You ran your mouth all year about last year's QB and the final four game. Well this year the QB threw 4 picks including a pick 6. Let this be a lesson. You win as a team and lose as a team. Go back to your arm chair.

You've been waiting all year for him to have a subpar game. Get over it dude. Smh....

One thing I have noticed is some people look to point the finger at either a coach or a player just because maybe the opposing team was a little better. Im sure the players played their heart out and the coach did the best he could with what he had so accept the defeat and move on!

Long time observer here and longtime Gilmer fan. I used to enjoy Smoaky's radio show here in East Tx. Never took the time to register here to post but have enjoyed what many post, agree or disagree. And occasionally laugh out loud. But there is a post here by "snowbird " that made me actually do that just now. Whatever ax you have to grind should not reflect on the KID playing quarterback for Gilmer. It's one thing to talk about mistakes but you have some kind of personal agenda that you need to drop! I was at the semi last year and this year. On two of the interceptions last night the defender got to the quarterback and hit him as he was throwing causing the interception. It was Not the same thing as last year . Get over your butthurt and move on. That's about all I have to say other than we played a team last night that was ready and they earned the win . Gilmer played until the end and almost got back in it. Left it all on the field, all you can ask.

Congrats to Gilmer on another great season. I know the loss hurts and the fans are looking for a reason to pin the loss on. Don't put it on your QB. He had an amazing year and does not deserve the unnecessary pressure piled on him. You win as a team and you lose as a team, period. He is just a Jr and will be back next year for another record setting season. Maybe, just maybe, Sweetwater players and their coaching staff deserve a little respect for putting together a solid game plan and executing it. You guys will be back!

It's not just the QB that led to the loss, it was the team as a whole. When a QB is making mistakes, his team mates and coaches are supposed to tell him to adjust or use a different tack and the QB should be accepting of helpful criticism. That did not happen in this game and that was the result. Also, I heard a lot of jawjacking about Sweetwater and how they were no match for Gilmer so it's obvious Sweetwater was underestimated as an opponent. Sweetwater is a sizable town and has a lot of depth and talent that was disregarded by many of their opponents. That was a mistake too. All I heard was a lot of nonsense about that myth of East Texas speed. Smart playing can beat out pure bonehead speed or size any old day. Just look at how many times Austin Westlake, Southlake Carroll, Highland Park, Katy, etc all these white boy preppy schools make it so far in the playoffs consistently.

Congratulations to the Sweetwater Mustangs! Y'all surprised a lot of people, me included. Now, go shock the world next week! I'll be pulling for y'all!

Gilmer got outplayed and outcoached last night. It happens to the best of teams on occasion. No shame in that. We didn't quit, we just got beat by the better team. We'll be right back in the mix next season.

I can guarentee that no Gilmer coach or player underestimated Sweetwater.

Highland Park, Katy, Southlake Carroll & Austin Westlake were and are successful because they have the pick of the litter in the metro areas in which they are located. I'm pretty sure if East Texas teams had that same access, they could dominate every year. As it is, teams like Daingerfield, Gilmer & Carthage (just to name a few), have been just as successful without the advantages that the metro teams have.

As far as speed, I would still put up our East Texas kids any day over any other region in Texas.
