The whole video should have been shown...Caddo got carried away when their bench surged...refs. did not step in & take control. The Caddo player that got Head Punched had his helmet on & had already thrown a punch...Caddo coaches stood around & watched the action instead  of corralling their players...pretty disappointing

I am so ready for the Melissa vs Gilmer game. It is game of the WEEK. I am sorry but Melissa is a better stronger team than years past. A COMPLETELY different team. Has anyone seen their OLINE? Did you see How many rushing yards they had on Rusk? Over 500 Or 600. Gilmer better come prepared for a fight. This will not be an easy game like some of you think. Also, the fact of the matter is if Gilmer was soooo good why did they lose 2 games? So how good are they really this year? Let’s look at the rankings. What about the stats? Melissa is ranked higher. Men lie. Women lie but NUMBERS never lie!! Gilmer’s reign will soon be over. I know that’s hard to accept. But hey, let’s just all remain calm and see what happens Friday! On the Celina vs PG game.....Well,  Melissa beat Celina now THAT game will be a blow out for sure. Why someone would think Melissa VS Gilmer is the blow out game is beyond me. Celina is not the team they once were either. Their reign is over. This is Melissa’s year. Win or lose, they will put up a fight Friday is all I’m saying. Don’t sleep on this team.

I agree that sometimes we are soft as a society, but my goodness. After seeing the video of that kid throwing a punch this morning, there is no argument that he shouldn't have some sort of punishment. I'm not sure a suspension is warranted, but surely those coaches at Gilmer are wearing him out after practice every day this week. He threw a violent punch. It wasn't just pushing and shoving.

I have no doubt that the CM kids were pushing/shoving/punching as well. Unfortunately, that was not in the footage that I saw. There is no place for that on the football field. If a kid throws a punch, he should be ejected/punished. Period.

Actually, I can surprisingly agree with you on the subject of 4 teams from each district making playoffs. I personally think it should go back to the days of only top 2 teams going to playoffs. Never saw the video nor do I care to see it, I’m sure both parties were guilty unfortunately in football it’s always the second man that gets caught. But I’m not gonna get on here and condone fighting in the sport unlike yourself. Other than that I am done discussing it with you and should move on.

The two teams that beat Gilmer this year are undefeated and one is the defending Div I State Champion. Unlike a lot of teams,  the Buckeyes play a tough schedule year in and year out, and are in probably the toughest Div II district in 4A. They are always well prepared for the playoffs. No doubt Melissa is much improved and will give all they have, but  unless Melissa has a good defense and can stop that potent Gilmer offense, I can't see the Buckeyes losing.

Didn't say I condoned anything.  But that's the same kind of thinking that gets everyone in trouble for fights at school.  In the words of Kenny Rogers, "sometimes you gotta fight to be a man."  You don't know what happened leading up to that.  I'm sure Gilmer's staff is handling it.  

 

You should probably worry more about Gilmer's offense than a punch...

Great points. Melissa will have to BRING it And stop the offense to win this game. It’s going to be a tough one. Our team is young and hungry. May the best team win!

Both the teams Gilmer lost to would smack y'all around. Gilmer was the closest game PG has had and there 12-0 and there's Carthage last years defending 4aD1 and favorite to win this year. Also rankings don't mean anything in 2003 Gilmer was ranked a few places above ATL but that ranking didn't help. You can't go by stats because difference in opponents y'all have a weaker schedule. Trade Carthage and PG with 2 other teams from yalls schedule and Gilmer would be undefeated and y'all would have 2 losses. Should be a good game if Melissa is as good as they say.

Yes, Gilmer player threw a punch, yes, he should have been ejected from the game.  Yes, he got injured later in the game (wouldn't have happened if he got ejected).  The injury may last longer than a one game ejection. 

I didn't see the punch in the game, but only on the video after the game, and I'm guessing Gilmer coaches didn't see it either, as it was on the other side of the field.  As a Gilmer fan, I was disappointed.  No matter what happens, players have to learn to keep their cool.  It was a clear, inexcusable late hit out of bounds, with some extra pushing even after that.  But the retaliation was totally unneccessary.  Caddo Mills got a 15 yard penalty, but  I do not know why the refs didn't eject both kids.  They clearly saw it, and that's usually the protocol.  

I have no doubt Gilmer coaches will handle it during this week of practice.  I don't know what will happen in the Melissa game.  If he had been ejected, it would have ended there.  Again, why the refs didn't eject both players I do not know. 

As for the Melissa game, it sounds like it could be a shootout.  Gilmer's defense isn't great, but if they can come up with key stops, they can still win the game.  They have a knack for giving up a 60 yard drive, only to make a stop in the red zone.  Or looking awful for 2 possessions, and then creating 2 straight turnovers.  If their offense is running on all 8 cylinders, teams have to try and exchange touchdown for touchdown, and can't keep up.

They ARE as good as they say and have a very strong O line as well. I see your points and they are valid. Friday can’t come soon enough! May the best team win! It’s going to be a good one.

If I'm not mistaken we lost to the # 1 and number 2 in the State in 4a D2 Rankings..We aren' what we usually are especially on Defense. Most of us know this will be a tough game. Don't lump most of us in With the rest. The last 2 meetings we have blown out Melissa and that' what they are going off of. This time well we will find out Friday Night

Plus strength of schedule definately favors Gilmer. But it all doesn't matter; we will find out Friday. Hoping for a PG Gilmer Rematch honestly lol

May I ask where you got Yalls Stats Were better not like it matters but from what I just saw and compared we have thrown for way more yardage. Just was curious. Oh honestly I was just looking at the rankings from Max preps. I’m not saying it’s not going to be a tough game what #### me off is those who say it will be a blow out or comparing us to past years. We aren’t the same team. I don’t think Gilmer is as good as years past and I don’t think Melissa is as bad as years past so this will be a good Match. To say the Celina vs PG  will be a better game, I don’t know how when Melissa already beat Celina. That makes no sense. The Melissa vs Gilmer will be an epic match up.

Gilmer is still a great football team. Their offense can straight light up a score board. If you want to say their defense has fallen off some, OK. But not to the point to offset that high scoring offense. Poppy is the best QB I have seen this year! You cant stop them you can only hope to minimize them. Based on their performance on offense, if Melissa holds them under 40 points id say that's not to bad. Why in the world would anybody think that Gilmer cannot play with any team is beyond me. Personally I think Melissa will need to play their best game and Gilmer will have to lay an egg for Melissa to win JMO.

We seem to be finding ourselves defensively the last few games.  I hope that trend continues.  We will definitely need strong defensive performances from here on out, and that starts this Friday against a potent Melissa team.

That’s why I deleted the FNR app from my phone and only use this site now. Pulling for Melissa also but I’m also a realist and don’t get drunk on my own teams kool aid, Melissa will definitely have to bring their best game yet and come out with the fire and passion that they had for Celina because Gilmer is a heck of a team and program. I’m just hoping the Cards can keep it a contest down to the end and at least provide themselves the chances for the upset.
