That was a great game Carthage was ready to play.  The early turnovers early didn't help either.  Give credit to Carthage they played a great game.  Other then the missed holding call on the screen play after the clipping call,  I would say it was called pretty even.  Keontay was the best player on the field.  Glad he a senior.  I'm ready for a few more rematches.  I heard at the game the LV freshman were 10-0 and gave up 10 points all season.  I was just wondering.  Why none of you are talking about the 400 yard you gave up on the ground.  To a team that was trialing you the entire game.   (By the way it wasn't silence it's just that the smoaky form isn't the first responsibility in my life)

Coachkells - Though Carthage came out on fire in Q1 most fans feel we had too many unforced errors that allowed LV to stay in the game.  In all honesty the score should have been 35-7 at half.  We can pick a number of items out of the game to work on this week, but we were good enough to score 46 on the LV defense (which is four times their season avg) and we were able to hold LV to 39 to survive and advance.  No style points now, just win baby!

The early turnovers were both forced by CHS. The CHS turnovers were almost all self inflicted.

CHS gave up 300 yards on the ground, because rushing is the main thing LV does offensively. Just like this week against Kennedale, I’m sure they’ll have a lot of rush yards, because that’s all they do.

coachkells, please tell us how the LV offense performed against Carthage as it compares to other defenses the Pirates have faced earlier this year.

And our offense didn’t execute nearly as well as it normally does. Credit the LV defense for that!

Really more upset about the pass plays the Dawgs gave up than the rush yards.  We knew with that big O-line and the great backs, they were gonna get some yards.  Anyone over here saying it was gonna be shutdown was blowing smoke or is delusional.  The passing plays that went for TD's were the real problem.  Those shouldn't have happened.  One was even on a 4th down play.  Not concerened about the rushing yards.  The key this week will be the same, limit the big plays.  You know they are gonna get some yards on the ground, but make them earn it with sustained drives and not allow the quick hitters.

Have a good one coach!

True... take away those two freebies & the game isn't even close.

Well, I think those plays had more to do with us not doing our job as well as we could than LV making the play. Especially the touchdown pass over #2 on 4th & a mile. That was a desperation heave that we should’ve intercepted, but our DB kind of quit on the play a little bit. Then 2 realized the ball was in the air coming to his receiver and missed knocking the ball away.

I wasn't at the game but didn't Carthage scored twice in the first half on turnovers? How could Carthage score 35 points in the first half without those two turnovers? I know Carthage fans love their Dawgs and they should.....I get it.... I would congratulate LV and move on without bumping your chest. JS

I think the call was bad because the LV player Couldn't MAKE a play for the ball, because it hit the Carthage defender IN THE BACK; the pass was Short!

Ive watched the replay twice.  You are 100% correct

Dean1345 - the LV turnovers in 1st half were forced.  The Carthage turnovers in 1st half were unforced.  Anyone at the game would agree Carthage should have scored 35 in 1st half.  That’s not a knock at LV.  They never quit and made a game of it.

DawgNation2015.....A turnover is a turnover. It doesn't matter how it happened. We agree to disagree.

Forced and unforced turnovers have the same result. However, when dealing in what ifs or things that very well could’ve happened, fans generally understand that unforced turnovers by one team confirms the team with the self inflicted turnovers halted themselves from scoring more points not the defense of the other team.

You fully understand this concept.

We can agree to disagree.  If you will invest $10 and watch the game on Texan Live you will see what we are speaking of.  LV had no quit and kept plugging away.  I give them 100% credit for that.  But I stand by my point that the game was close because Carthage allowed it to be.

So a strip on a tackle or jumping the route for an INT is the same as fumbling a snap or a handoff?  In the books yes, but not when you are talking about how a team played.

Even allowing for the 4 Carthage turnovers, take away those two passing TD's by LV & this game was a blowout; but the Dawgs came away with the "W" anyway...👌

One of them was forced... imo. LV had a strip sack on Capps and recovered it. They scored on the next play to make it 28-14.

Correct.  That was a forced turnover to me.  The fumbled snap/handoff in the first half was not.  There was another fumble on a handoff, but I don't know when it was.  In my opinion, you could call it forced also.  It appeared Keontay was trying to cut before taking the ball.  Not sure if it was due to penetration or he just saw a hole he wanted to hit.

Have you ever said Navasota should have won a game that they didn’t ?

I am sure I have but don't recall. I can say if I had a child or family playing I most surely would. I live about 10 miles from Navasota near Washington on the Brazos State Park. I know Lee Fedora but other than that not many player families. I have only attended 4 or 5 Rattler games since Coach Fedora left.

The one in the 3rd quarter I would call unforced (not that it matters). There was no penetration and nobody within 5 yards of the handoff. I watched it several times and it looked to me like a solid handoff by the QB..... it just got dropped.
