Monte1076
I get that the propositions were "non-binding", but I'm not really in favor of a "consumption tax" in lieu of property taxes. From this article: https://www.teachthevote.org/news/2018/02/19/answering-your-questions-on-2018-texas-primary-ballot-propositions/ Quote According to the non-profit Texas Taxpayers and Research Association, the state sales tax would have to be raised from 6.25 to 23 percent, using the current tax base, to make up for revenue lost from eliminating the property tax. If you expanded the sales tax base by taxing things like groceries, gas, water, medicine, and electric bills, as well as adding sales tax for services like those provided by doctors, lawyers, and architects, Texas would still have to raise the state sales tax to at least 15 percent in order for sales taxes to replace the current revenue from property taxes. When you add on the 2 percent local sales tax, you would end up with a total sales tax range of 17 to 25 percent. Emphasis mine. Think about that. Mr. P
Blue wave? What blue wave? Vote counts Tuesday night once again showed how Texas is a red state. Despite an early rush to the polls, Republicans cast more ballots than Democrats in the 2018 primaries.https://t.co/VxYqLYCPk4 pic.twitter.com/nRmEiwv8Pa — Texas Tribune (@TexasTribune) March 7, 2018

Take all sales tax money from all Texas cities, counties, and special purpose districts, and transit authorities, pool it, then disburse it to cities, counties, public schools, hospital districts, MUD's, fire districts, etc? I have no idea. I haven't seen any real details on it. I would assume some of it would stay local, and a majority would go to the state for disbursement or something. Let some of the non-property owners pay. I pay $5000 a year now in property taxes, and that's too much. I was renting an apartment in Mesquite for $400 a month back in 1998. True, it was just a one bedroom, but that's all we needed. Heck, if there were a consumption tax, I guarantee I would probably only spend $1600 a year if they added a 10% tax to the 8.25% that's already on the books. Heck you're close enough to the Louisiana border that you could probably pay less than $500 a year in a consumption tax.

Just wait and see how many GOPPERS get Moore’d in November. I can guarantee you, the democrats are digging hard and heavy on goppers that won their primary, looking for something to throw on the wall that they can get to stick. They’re emboldened by what they did in Alabama. It won’t take anything nearly as selacious to defeat a gopper in Wisconsin or Michigan.

The only way to change Roe v Wade is through the SCOTUS, all the states can do is put some kind of regulations on it and even then they seem to get struck down. If a republican comes out and say he is pro abortion I will not vote for that person. I won't vote for a democrat for anything anymore because of their national party stance on almost all issues.
