I get that the propositions were "non-binding", but I'm not really in favor of a "consumption tax" in lieu of property taxes.

According to the non-profit Texas Taxpayers and Research Association, the state sales tax would have to be raised from 6.25 to 23 percent, using the current tax base, to make up for revenue lost from eliminating the property tax. If you expanded the sales tax base by taxing things like groceries, gas, water, medicine, and electric bills, as well as adding sales tax for services like those provided by doctors, lawyers, and architects, Texas would still have to raise the state sales tax to at least 15 percent in order for sales taxes to replace the current revenue from property taxes. When you add on the 2 percent local sales tax, you would end up with a total sales tax range of 17 to 25 percent.

Emphasis mine. Think about that.

So a Robin Hood sales tax program?  Take all sales tax money from all Texas cities, counties, and special purpose districts, and transit authorities, pool it, then disburse it to cities, counties, public schools, hospital districts, MUD's, fire districts, etc?

I have no idea. I haven't seen any real details on it. I would assume some of it would stay local, and a majority would go to the state for disbursement or something.

Spoken like someone who doesn't own very much property..........

I'm all for a consumption tax too.  Let some of the non-property owners pay.  I pay $5000 a year now in property taxes, and that's too much.  I was renting an apartment in Mesquite for $400 a month back in 1998.  True, it was just a one bedroom, but that's all we needed.  Heck, if there were a consumption tax, I guarantee I would probably only spend $1600 a year if they added a  10% tax to the 8.25% that's already on the books.  Heck you're close enough to the Louisiana border that you could probably pay less than $500 a year in a consumption tax.

With these new tariffs, 2018 and 2020 are in the bag. Entire rust belt will go red by a wide margin. I look for Manchin to switch parties in WV. Either that or he will be voted out. Outside of the left coast and New England, the whole map will be red in 2020.

Just wait and see how many GOPPERS get Moore’d in November. I can guarantee you, the democrats are digging hard and heavy on goppers that won their primary, looking for something to throw on the wall that they can get to stick. They’re emboldened by what they did in Alabama. It won’t take anything nearly as selacious to defeat a gopper in Wisconsin or Michigan.

That's possible. Unless prices for goods made with steel/aluminum shoot up.

HB 2 was struck down by SCOTUS. Still waiting for those in control of the house, senate, and executive branch to get Roe v Wade struck down. You get back when they do that.

They did their jobs, libtard........

We currently have "pro life Republicans" in control of the House, Senate, and Executive branches of the federal level of government AND EVEN THEY (who are actually in control of these types of issues) are doing nothing to change Roe v Wade.

The only way to change Roe v Wade is through the SCOTUS, all the states can do is put some kind of regulations on it and even then they seem to get struck down. If a republican comes out and say he is pro abortion I will not vote for that person. I won't vote for a democrat for anything anymore because of their national party stance on almost all issues.
