Wow, you know the head coach and administration is guilty just be reading the article in the paper.............I am going to wait and see what the courts say

The court has already said what they think. They gave the local court the option to file and they decided to file a pre-trial diversion which is nothing. That pi&&ed the feds off and they went federal with it. It's all in the paper work that was filed.

love how common sense completely disappears because a "nerve" was hit...truly offended by the actions of a young person, who made a stupid impulsive decision.....much like the "adults " on this website to automatically sling mud and cry for justice to be served to ALL  involved even those that followed the law to the letter and extent. Understandibly fragile subject but i am amazed at how judge and jury appears on a websiter with people not even remotely knowlegable about the entire situation....do i know the entire situation? no.. but i know enough about the character and integrity of some involved to know there is more to this story

Exactly. People wonder why Carthage supporters will not post, well it is obvious. This is the SDC lynch mob. Everybody ready to burn down the town, athletic program, the AD, and all the success. What can anybody from Carthage say in this situation? Was it handled correctly? No, I don't think so. But we are seeing 1 side of this whole thing from a lawyer of a #### off mother. Let it play out, and see what happens. But to be calling for everybody to be fired, and thrown in jail is ridiculous. I understand it is a touchy subject. And yea if it was my daughter I would have a major problem. But let the whole story come out before we decide to start stringing people up.

I’ve posted my thoughts regarding what should have been done once it was shown to a faculty member; The kid was a minor who did something stupid, as well as illegal. I will not speculate as to whether he “knew or felt like he could show it to the faculty member”, because that cannot be proven... That faculty member’s failure to act swiftly & accurately is where the plot thickens here.

Again, the boy did a very stupid thing in the process of being stupid. Not defending his actions here, just stating an opinion. Things escalated greatly once the faculty member failed  to do his job.

Things escalated greatly the second the boy decided not to delete the video.

A coach that saw this and didn’t turn it in, but instead passed it around....does deserve to be thrown in jail. And everyone saying other wise is just ridiculous.

If Surrat knew about it, that’s a whole different story but it’s not something anyone should be talking about until that fact comes out. The boy and the coach that passed it around, deserve a heavy punishment. This isn’t some boys will be boys type of thing. This is invasion of privacy and filming of an underage girl(s).

I agree. If they have proof of a coach seeing the video, not turning it in, and then distributing the video himself then throw him in jail. But that needs to be proven. The document says "as likely to have evidentiary support after a reasonable opportunity for further investigation and/or discovery."

My niece just graduated from Carthage last year. I knew about this when it happened because it was the talk of the school at the time. I'm not sure how they kept the lid on this as long as they did. It was evidently well known by people because my sister and brother-in-law said there were many conversations around town about it. Not sure where the ball was dropped but it was definitely dropped somewhere along the line.

All parties should be punished but it seems as though some posters are making this more about Carthage football than anything else. News flash, Carthage has always covered up things in the past in general. Not surprising at all. This has little to do with 6 titles, only should have to do with what is right and wrong. Hope justice is served.

Outside of 77, the few Carthage posters make me vomit reading their post. Don’t want to mess that program up. $750,000 scoreboards are more important than letting it be known girls aren’t pieces of meat meant to provide enjoyment for the qb and his buddies.

Get over yourself. Nobody is condoning this. Nobody is saying “girls are pieces of meat”.

I am going to say this in the same way I addressed the Art Briles stuff...

Scott Surratt may have had no knowledge of it.  He may have a system where his coordinators squash this stuff etc.

BUT I am saying this in the most non-judgmental way possible...  ANYTHING that happens in the Carthage ISD football program is Surratt's responsibility.  He hired those coaches.  He allowed those players to play.  He oversees the athletic policies.  He disciplines the players.  He is the supervisor of all things athletics.

I know people are used to the phrase &*^*^ Rolls downhill... but when its something like this, it finds it way back up.  I hate it for the guy, but this isn't going to end well.

Lol, not a chance. This isn't gonna even be a black eye or a bloody nose. Nothing will come of it. The media will get some clicks and pageviews, self-righteous blowhards like me will opine.

But nothing will change.

IDK man, my HC out here in Mineral Wells is the one who told me and he doesn't even read SDC

I have intentionally not commented on this thread as all I am aware of is second hand information and I’m sure most of it is incomplete or false.  Let me be clear though, I do not condone the alleged actions of the male student.  I have a daughter and I cannot image what the female students and their families have gone through as a result of this.  It’s a terrible situation and I would not wish this on anyone or any school district.  I am choosing not to make the situation worse by commenting on it without knowing all the facts.  I hope others will choose to do the same.

It sounds like the first faculty member that saw it....decided to show it to others. I don't understand how that doesn't send the faculty member to jail. As previously stated, it's pretty obvious that's child porn.

Even if he didn't show it to anyone, he should be immediately put on Admin leave then have his license reviewed then removed for not reporting it the second he saw it.

I am not a lawyer so correct me if I am wrong. This is a Civil Rights Lawsuit, not criminal. This means they are suing for monetary restitution, not getting criminal charges. The way I read this, is the DA didn't see anything to prosecute on claiming He Said/She Said even after an FBI investigation. I am not taking sides either way, because I don't enough to do so. I was just making sure I was reading that right.

I'm just curious if all is found true in the court of law. Do you think UIL would step in? Since the HC KNEW and did nothing and a asst. Coach knew and did nothing?

Doubt it. Never seen UIL step in for coaches having inappropriate relationships with students and this is similar.

Sounds pretty bad. As the dad of two girls I hope justice (whatever that is) is served. Im no expert on civil law...so why is it relevant that the young man is a football player? Regardless, this is a bad, bad situation.

I think some might be thinking that him being a football player they may be looking the other way. From what I read the law said it was a he said she said situation but if there is a video out there someone did something and is in a lot of trouble. Cell Phones are nice to have but they can get you in a lot of trouble also...Possibly ruin your life.

What else would you call a grown man looking at a 16 year old naked girl. Pretty accurate description to me.

What grown man? Because they alleged an “assistant coach” saw it? To be honest, I highly doubt that happened. Especially the part about a coach “distributing” it. But I’ll leave it to the court to discover if that is true or not. When the young man made the video he was a sophomore in HS. It was shared with other HS kids.

Do you think the FBI got involved, knew an “assistant coach” was distributing the video, and then did nothing? Doubt it. We are getting some pretty bad allegations going here guys. Child porn? Really?
