GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
Points, points and points. A 63-point effort cruised Longview to their 2nd consecutive Regional Semi-Final and set the standard for points in a season at Longview High. The previous record of 618 points set by the 2009 squad was shattered with the 63 point outburst against the Prosper Eagles to round the Lobos up to 646 total points through their first 12 games. The win rounded Longview's record to a perfect 12-0 on the year, their best mark to a season since the 2004 season. Waiting for them, is the Vandegrift Vipers, another team who is sitting at a perfect 12-0. The Lobos rounded their record to 12-0 when they won their 5th consecutive game while scoring 50 or more points. The Vipers will have to slow down the vaunted Lobo offense, as they themselves have only tallied 50 or more points once this season. The Vipers reach the third round after knocking off Klein Collins in double overtime. Vandegrift has notched two overtime victories now on the season, also knocking off Cedar Ridge in overtime earlier in the year. Longview has now scored 50 or more points in eight of their twelve games this season, a school record. The Lobos have also tallied 60 or more points in five of their twelve games this season, breaking the school record set in 1927. Longview advanced to their 11th Regional Semi-Final in the 15 seasons under head coach John King. This will mark the 3rd trip for Vandegrift in school history, after opening in 2010. The two teams will meet for the first time in teams history, marking the third consecutive game that Longview has met a team that it had previously never played....the most Longview has played a new team in a season since 2013, and the first time Longview has faced three new programs in consecutive weeks since 2008 when facing four new programs.

ON THIS DATE IN LOBO HISTORY: December 1st
In 2007, Johnny Garrett rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns as the Lobos battled from a six point deficit after one quarter to knock off the Leander Lions, 40-21, at Tiger Stadium in Corsicana. The Lobos totaled up 451 yards in the win as the Lobos held the Lions to just six points from the second quarter on.
In 2012, Longview grabbed an early 7-0 lead on Austin Westlake after the first quarter before the Lobos became very generous, offering up seven turnovers to the Chaps. Despite trailing just 14-10 in the 3rd quarter with all the mistakes, a 12 yard fumble return would end any hope for the Lobos on the day. Overall, the Chaparrals got three defensive touchdowns on the day in a 38-10 Austin Westlake victory over Longview in Midlothian.

This will be the best defense we’ve faced since Lufkin imo. They’re the real deal. Just have to come to play, and play our game, and we’ll be fine.

@LOBOFAN84, I’ll have the post game audio up for you in the morning. Already pulled it and it’s converting now. But am headed to bed.

This right here.....

These guys don't have to score 50 a game, they have a defense and are extremely opportunistic...going to be a great game....

Play better then we did against prosper which we should and and Longview will only loose if they self destruct.....Meridith I would use a bit more., not lits  more but here and there . He’s just explosive. But please quit the play clock issues , etc..... at this level with all the experience out there it should not be an issue!

Some of you now see why I was never concerned about the 1st two rounds. Prosper and Cove, while good teams, were never on our level.

Now it's gonna get a little tough the next two rounds (if Westfield beats Horn)

Vandegrift will be the most disciplined team we've seen all year. Best defense we've seen since Lufkin.

Vandy is a newer school but if you look at them geographically, you can understand why they are a good football team. Pretty much a mixture of Cedar Park, Westlake and Lake Travis. School boundary lines are located right in the middle of those 3.

Longview just has to come to play Longview football. Vandy’s offense is nothing stellar, but they’ll definitely try and control the clock all night long. So just have to keep doing what we’ve been doing on offense, though it’ll be much more difficult this week. Take the chances they give us and we’ll be fine. Cut out the penalties we’ve saw this week for sure.

We will probably be  the best offense they have seen all year should be good test for both.

No probably about it.

Offense + experience  (Vandy is a young team, very good news for their future) ultimately is the reason I think Longview pulls it out in a tough, close one.
