GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
National Television. Longview returns to the national landscape for the second consecutive year, and for the sixth time overall. But for the first time, the cameras of ESPN will be amongst the crowd. Longview comes into Rose Stadium fresh off a 53-0 beat down of the Marshall Mavericks. The Lobos, winners of a school record 18-consecutive games, saw the Mavs control the tempo in the first quarter to the tune of a 0-0 contest with Marshall running the 40-second clock down to 1 second every single play. Longview’s one possession in the first quarter ended in a punt. Following the first quarter, the Lobos..and more so Kaden Meredith…took over. Longview ended the half up 17-0. A quick score to start the second half deflated any chance the Mavericks had. A safety following the kickoff, then a kickoff return of the kick pushed the game out of distance and the route was on. Longview rolled to the tune of 53-0 over the Mavericks, the largest such margin of victory in the series’ history. The win marked the fifth time the Lobos have scored at least 50 points on the Mavericks in the last 11 seasons. Previous to 2008, Longview had never scored 50 or more points on a Marshall football team. The shutout was also Longview’s 19th overall against the Mavericks, and third since 2011. Overall, it was Longview’s 18th victory in the last 19 meetings over the Mavericks. Since Longview’s first 19-game winning streak started over the Mavs in 1969, 50 years ago this season, Longview is 42-9 against their long time rivals from the east. The Lobos now switch focus to their rivals from the west, the John Tyler Lions. Fresh off a rebounding season in 2018, that saw Cujo nearly upset the defending state champions, the Lions opened their 2019 campaign with a loss to the Mesquite Horn Jaguars. Then followed things up with a 34-7 loss to their cross town rival, Tyler Lee, 34-7. The Lions, after missing the post season two years ago, bounced back last season after the drop to 5A Division I. But the Lions still suffered big time early on in the season, with big losses to Cedar Hill & Longview to start the season. JT had a scheduled meeting with Euless Trinity, but it was cancelled. Last season’s victory for Longview marked their 50th overall against the Lions, the second most over a single program in school history. Since defeating the Lions in 2001, which sent the Lobos to the post season and the Lions home for the year, Longview is 13-3 against John Tyler, having won the last two meetings. Longview rolls into Rose Stadium on a high note, having not lost to John Tyler at their home away from home since the 2000 season. The Lobos have won the last seven meetings against John Tyler at Rose Stadium, and have won the last 14 overall against TISD dating back to 2002. Overall, the Lobos have won 20 of their last 21 visits to the Rose City, with the only loss coming to Mansfield Lake Ridge in 2015 by two points. Since ending their 20-year playoff streak back in 1967, the Lobos have pounded their way to a 34-15-1 record over John Tyler. The Lobos will be rolling in, looking to win their 19th game in a row overall and their 12th non-district contest in a row.

In 1969, Longview knocked off Dallas Sunset, 27-7, at Lobo Stadium.
In 1975, Thomas Cook rushed for two scores, while Leo McCoy, Johnny Fuller and Sherman Johnson would each tally one each in a 34-0 Longview victory over Waco Richfield in Paul Tyson Stadium. The Lobos held the Rams to just 40 total yards on the night, including -4 rushing.
In 1980, Zane Butter started the scoring before Nathan Harris tallied two of his own in a 35-19 Longview victory over Fort Worth Paschal at Lobo Stadium. Terry Morrow and Ronnie Hunter each scored on the night.
In 1986, Thomas Snoddy rushed for two touchdowns while Joe Brooks returned an interception for a score from 70 yards out. Rolanda Reese finished the scoring with a 40 yard pass reception in a 28-2 Longview victory over Fort Worth Trimble Tech in Lobo Stadium.
In 1997, David Monsivais kicked a 35 yard field goal but the Lobos saw a 7-3 lead for the Killeen Kangaroos on the scoreboard as the half ended. Shawn Byrdsong would change that in the third with a 7 yard passing touchdown before the Lobo defense came up with a safety in the fourth as Longview knocked off Killeen at Leo Buckley Stadium, 12-7.
In 2003, Rogers Taylor hauled in a 41 yard passing touchdown and Quincy Grant rushed in from one yard out as Longview took out the Wildcats of Lake Highlands at Wildcat-Ram Stadium, 24-14. In 2008, Longview rushed all over the Evangel Eagles in a 52-22 beat down at Lobo Stadium in a game that was scheduled due to Hurricane Ike. However, the Lobos would later have to forfeit the game due to a player playing one play in the fourth quarter that was ineligible. The game is best known for Evangel finishing with -21 rushing yards thanks to 11 Lobo sacks.
In 2015, Longview grabbed the lead in the 4th quarter thanks to a Jacorian Jones 11 yard passing touchdown followed by a two point conversion. But it wasn’t to be as Shreveport Byrd came right back and punched one in from Deuce Caston in a 22-15 Yellowjacket victory over Longview at Shreveport’s Independence Stadium. Longview finished with just 85 rushing yards on the night.

35 players is a killer. How does that happen.... well we can start with the redrawing of the lines by TISD for one..

I don't know why y'all didn't go to bat for y'all kids back in the early 2000's when they came up with that mess. We BOTH know what it was all about and it's F'd up, too. But, y'all let them folks run that BS system and when it went to the supreme court, it was a done deal. That's how Lee ended up with their state title.  For example, there's no way in hell if you reside on 2nd Street off of Glennwood Ave. that you should be going to Lee.

when the make up of school board doesn't reflect the make up of the schools, what can you do.  Honestly LISD school board is in a similar situation, but yall only have one high school. If yall had two, you would probably experience the same thing.  But that's how it is. The US congress doesn't reflect the make up of America either...lol, so you just roll with what you have.  JT will be ok. Good freshman class and they will have alot of starters returning next yr.
