GAME PREVIEW & SERIES REVIEW
A 40th district championship in program history and a first round home playoff game in two weeks time was the goal for the Longview Lobos as they headed into their Senior Night contest against the Robert E Lee Red Raiders. Two goals they achieved with flying colors. The Lobos delivered their 18th consecutive home win with a dominating 49-7 victory over the Red Raiders, winning their 15th in a row over their rivals from the East. The Lobos and Red Raiders met for the 60th time on Friday night, but the series got even more lopsided as the Lobos expanded to a 30 game lead over Tyler Lee (44-14-2). In the win, quarterback Haynes King improved to 35-1 as a starter, dating back to his 2017 sophomore season. His 4 touchdown pass performance gave King 82 touchdown passes in his career, by far the most in Longview history by a quarterback. Overall, King hit 100 touchdowns (82 passing, 17 rushing, 1 receiving). The Lobos, winners of 25 games in a row overall, now turn their attention to the Mesquite Skeeters in their regular season finale. Longview returns to Hanby Stadium for the third time this season, having won the previous two contests by a combined 99-20 scoreline. The Lobos have won three in a row at Hanby Stadium overall. Mesquite, 7-2 on the season, started their season off with a perfect 4-0 record before Mesquite Horn upset the Skeeters in their district opener. The Skeeters won three in a row following that loss, but struggled against Rockwall Heath and Tyler Lee. Rockwall dominated the Skeeters last week in a 66-42 win for the Jackets. Mesquite comes in with not much to play for, as the Skeeters are locked into their Division I #2 Seed, and should have a neutral site game against Killeen Shoemaker or Killeen Harker Heights (as both teams will finish in 3rd place). Longview, however, comes in with at least a couple things on their mind. The Lobos are looking to keep their 25-game winning streak alive, along with their 25-game regular season winning streak and 17-game district winning streak. The Lobos also are looking to clinch their 33rd outright district crown. All of this is in preparation for their last game at Lobo Stadium next Friday night when they host either Temple or Waco Midway.

Just to have it on here...

Longview will play either Waco Midway or Temple in round one.

Waco Midway plays Belton, Temple plays Copperas Cove.

A win by Waco Midway, and we play Temple, no matter what they do against Cove.

A loss by Waco Midway and a win by Temple, and we play Waco Midway.

A loss by Waco Midway and a loss by Temple, and we play Temple.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Temple isn't visiting Longview for the first time since 1937 in two weeks, but who knows with 12-6A.

Longview should win by 20+.

Mesquite isn’t that solid of a team and probably should be fighting for that 4th spot, but Lee fell apart in the fourth.

They struggled with Heath, struggled with West. North gave them a good test early on.

Skeeters are locked into their spot. I just don’t see this as a huge challenge but Lobos still need to come play. I don’t think their D is any better than Lee’s.

This game WILL get ugly. Mesquite has almost nothing to play for, and will want to avoid injuries going into the playoffs. Longview may hang 70

Nah. John King, isn't that type of coach to allow that to happen. He's extremely respectful almost to a fault.

07 I’ll put this over here too. I think it’s close.

I looked at 6a top 25 and 5a DI - 4a DII top 10 points allowed.

1. Duncanville - 33

2. Cy-Fair - 42

3. Westfield - 55

4. Karen Wagner - 57

5. Denton Ryan - 69

6. Longview - 71

7. Shadow Creek - 73

8. Katy - 75

9. Vandegrift - 76

10. Carthage - 77.

This should be pretty close. Might have missed somebody. I just had a quick look.

We'll get em eventually, so long as we win and they win.

Yeah.

Both of us would have more than winnable matchups in the first two rounds, but tough matchups in round 3 for us to meet in round 4.

If they got to Round 4 over the likes of Westfield and Klein Collins, they'd be pretty impressive.
