Yep, over 7000, 000 jobs lost on his watch in march. Cant blame that on Bush.

The recession is being felt globally. It can't be blamed on G.W. .

What is happening in America can now be firmly placed on the Democratic Congress and our elected Presidunce.

Secede with this guys helpKilgore for gov:Secede!! And to answer the question about our Army bases, dont you think zero would sell us that equiptment for pennies on the dollar? He'd get a little money plus leave the rest of the US defenseless as he wants it.

That's a great point. BHO seems bent on giving away our country. I don't see why he would mind throwing away most of our defenses.

Black legislators say it is racist that Perry would seek for Texas to leave the US because of taxes. Does that mean that Blacks dont pay taxes and shouldnt be upset about taxes? Is Mr. West saying that whites who are the minority of Texas population is needed to pay a bigger burden of the taxes?

Sen. Cornyn says Texas can’t secede from United States

By W. Gardner Selby | Friday, April 17, 2009, 11:07 AM

While a poll broke this morning suggesting Texans favor staying in the United States by more than 3-to-1, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said secession can’t legally happen.

A multi-media firestorm broke this week over Gov. Rick Perry insisting Texas could secede if residents wanted to do so, though he also said he doesn’t favor breaking away.

Perry stuck Thursday with his initial indication that Texas could quit the union. He’d said Wednesday that “if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that?”

Cornyn, the state’s former attorney general and a past member of the Texas Supreme Court, said in response to a question during a stop at the Texas Capitol that secession isn’t legally possible. “I understand the sort of frustration people feel about what’s happening in Washington. I share that frustration,” the second-term senator said. But as to secession being legally possible, he said, “the answer is no. Texas cannot, as a constitutional law matter, secede. I thought Sanford Levinson did a good job of answering that question,” a reference to a law professor quoted here in Friday’s American-Statesman.

A new poll summarized here by Rasmussen Reports found 75 percent of Texas voters saying they’d prefer to stay in the United States, 18 percent endorsing secession and 7 percent being unsure.

The poll gave a glimpse of Perry’s political challenge as he gears up to seek a third full term next year against U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, R-Texas. Sixty-seven percent of the polled voters viewed Hutchison favorably compared to 55 percent of voters viewing Perry favorably. And among Republicans, Hutchison earned positive reviews from 83 percent of the polled voters, Perry from 78 percent.

my question is....were it to happen what would the federal goverment do about it? invade? embargo? what?

The United States military would seize control of all applicable areas and a new state government would be established. It would be over in less than a day.

For the sake of argument, (this would be foolish of the Feds, but they tend to be a foolish lot) if the Feds chose not to prevent it militarily, it would be in the form of severe economic sanctions, cutting funding, trade embargoes, closed border crossings, blockades, seizures of offshore oil platforms, etc.

We would be ruined within 2 months.

Although the Texas economy is fairly strong in comparison to the rest of the United States, the truth is that Texas is currently only economically viable as a part of the United States. The U.S. does not economically depend on Texas as much as Texas depends on the U.S.. Interstate trade is a huge part of our economy. We would have an impossible time trading internationally due to an almost assured lack of recognition by foreign governments. The world depends too much on the United States' economy to economically support any Texan rebellion/secession. Of course, I'm sure Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea would all be happy to see the United States split apart, but they would be our only allies. That is not a pack of friends I'd be willing to run with.

It would be absolutely foolish to secede and anyone that thinks Texas could somehow economically survive after succession is smoking something that I may want to get my hands on.

I'd rather die defending the original principles this great country was founded on than to live in socialism.
