I see No one is Giving PG a shot on the Carthage side.... Foolish....Even the most generous say that Carthage wins by 21 and applies the brakes.... that's an incredibly biased assessment. Carthage is walking straight into a hornets nest in my opinion. I made the drive over from Rockwall to Paris three weeks ago. PG completely dominated a good Paris Team. I've watched film of the Silsbee Game, by the way Silsbee is very big and in fact much bigger than Carthage up front defensively. They are no slouch for sure. PG handled them. As for the game that everyone frowns on PG ....Argyle, Argyle certainly is a very very good squad. PG had their chances and missed on them offensively in the 1st half. PG had some assignment issues defensively but cleaned that up. I saw a pretty gritty PG team come back from 14-0 to tie the game late in the 2nd quarter. Argyles O Line is undoubtedly one of the top 5 lines in all of Texas. They grinded away on PG and wore them down. Conditioning played a big role and 2 way players for PG in my opinion. I think you will see a better conditioned PG team and this Carthage Offense is not the same as Argyle. Spin it all you want its a different system. All of this said I will be interested to see how Carthage responds to a true challenge. Carthages first two Opponents in Kilgore and Gilmer simply do not compare to Pleasant Grove. Physically and Athletically in most positions PG matches up. Carthage has an advantage at the Skill Position PG has an advantage on the Defensive Line. The offensive lines are for the most part Similar although I believe PG has more experience and More Athletic Lineman. QB the advantage is with Carthage but dont sleep on PGs new QB Woodside. He has a cannon and PG can burn a defense, especially if the DBS are peeking into the backfield. The RB position Carthage has a good one two punch with Courtney and his back up but I don't expect stretch plays to work as well against this PG team. The PG linebackers are healthy and talented. Be on the look out for 6 Nick Martin with several D1 offers he will be a key figure in PGs defensive game plan. All in all This game will come down to the line of scrimmage as most do. Right now I'm not convinced Carthage is better up front. Coaching certainly Surratt is a legendary figure but Gibson at PG has definitely cemented himself as a rising star with what he has done in his tenure at PG. All in all its just great to have a game of this magnitude this early in the season. These two teams will likely meet again. In round one Im going with the Home team Pleasant Grove by the score of 31-24. I feel PG will force some turnovers and uncomfortable down and distance ituations for Carthage. PG will do just enough offensively through the Air to keep Carthage off balance and grind out the win.

I would like to hear your honest opinion of what you now think of the Dawgs.

Hawks out coached and out played. Carthage’s coach made adjustments at half and PG came out with the same thing. Just think if pg didn’t run the clock this could of got ugly quick.

There was a running clock in 4th quarter???

Something we do need to talk about is the technical difficulties KGAS has experienced the last two weeks streaming games.

I wonder what the deal is.

Ok, I retract my previous sentiment. Carthage has a glaring weakness and has for years. And it is KGAS. I’m sure those are fine gentlemen, but the broadcast is pretty rough. And the livestream is flat unwatchable. I still think Surratt and the Dawgs are good enough to overcome it, though ... prolly won’t keep them outta Arlington.

I think Surratt has a game plan with KGAS on the streaming so opposing coaches can’t watch Bulldog games as easily. Haha

2 weeks?  If only.  More like 2 decades lol.  Good people though.  Crappy radio station > No radio station.

Agree. He was practically begged to take the Tyler Lee job this year. Plus who knows what others

PG is not a bare program. Their 9th Grade class is super talented. Dynamic playmakers D1 types at QB and RB. It will be interesting to see if PG moves to a spread type. Also I was surprised how vanilla PG kept their offense. I know and have seen multiple passing formations by PG in the past. One wonders if Gibson knows down the road if all the marbles are on the table he has to have things unseen by Surratt, Wouldnt surprise me to see them use a spread look by that time in year. PG will be a very hard out on their side of bracket. I wouldnt bet against them to get back to state especially if they get everyone healthy by Playoff time.

Carthage coming out with 4 DL in the 2nd half was a big difference. Been playing a lot of 3 DL this year. Looks like they made an adjustment at half.

Yes I was perplexed how PG kept things the same and didnt adjust.... One thinks if there is a next time at State PG will incorporate a spread offense or something to play Chess with Surratt. He check Mated them with his halftime adjustments. PG Dline is very good and they had some good moments. The second half PG QB really hurt them. He will have to get better over the next 6-8 weeks

You think Carthage showed all their marbles?

Problem with that is ur o line lot different  run blocking and pass blocking can they switch with little to no game time reps doing it and be able to stand up to a good d line

I would say this is a strategy or something that they would need to install over several weeks in Practice and not use in Games at least until maybe the Semis... Just a thought

I think Carthage runs a very complex Pro Style Offense Most likely they did not show all their marbles. PGs offense was Carthages best defense in the 3rd Quarter especially when Carthage took control

Would you bet against Carthage in a rematch knowing the outcome of the first meeting and that Carthage is 7 for 7 in state title games since 2008?
