Argyle players verbally commit

I'm happy to report that all 8 graduating senior starters on the Argyle Eagles offense for the 2020 season will be playing football for Division 1 schools in TEXAS next season......yes, they have all elected to take scholarships offered by Div.1 universities here in Texas and stay home to play and represent.

CJ Rogers(6-3/205/QB) had a bevy of choices and late offers from 7-8 D-1 schools that I'm aware of.......4 from Big 12 schools......Iowa State, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Baylor.  CJ committed verbally to play at the next level for the Baylor Bears on Friday.  His #1 Go-to guy Cole Kirkpatrick(6-1/180/WR/4.5 speed) also finally made his verbal commitment this week to Texas Tech after being heavily recruited by an equally competitive grouping of Division 1 universities.  Tech also has two of Argyle's O-linemen verbally committed.......Tackle Jack Tucker(6-8/270) and Center Blake Spence(6-2/235).  Jasper Lott(6-6/255/TE/DT) was heavily recruited by top D-1 schools nationwide for his potential as either a TE, OT, DT, or DE......he's really multi-talented.  But he chose to stay and play for TCU.....so Patterson and the Horned Frogs made a big pick-up there.  The remaining two seniors on offense for the Eagles this season.....Tito Byce(5-10/195/RB/4.5 speed) and Cash Walker(6-0/180/WR/4.5 speed) have both received offers from D-1 Texas schools and others outside the state, but are still uncommitted and considering other offers.  Byce has at least 8 D-1 offers that I'm aware of......I'ma thinkin' Walker has 4 or 5 D-1 offers......2 that I'm aware of at this juncture that are in Texas.  National Signing Day 2021 is coming up on February 3rd.   Tucker, Spence, and Lott already signed in the early signing period during the season.   Darren Chapa(5-10/252/DT) signed early also w/Hardin Simmons Univ.  Argyle has 6 other seniors  on defense offered that I'm aware of......Ty Johnson(5-11/300/DL), Chase Bunnell(6-0/220/NG/DT/LB), Davis Elsey(6-2/195/OLB), Logan May(6-0/190/OLB)(3B/RHP/Baseball scholarship, Reece McCue(5-10/205/DT/MLB), Caleb Murdock(6-1/170/DB/Pole Vault...signed w/ TAMU. This guy has cleared 16-0 already in high school.   These are the seniors that played on the football team this season that will be playing at some sport at the next level next season.  There may be 2-3 other seniors on the team that I'm not aware of that will play in some capacity in another sport at the next level......or even possibly football at the D-2 level.  Then there are those that don't play on the football team that will get scholarships in baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, soccer, track & field, and wrestling.  And that's just the boys sports.  Let's just say that a whole lot of Argyle athletes and Band/Cheer members get scholarships to universities each year......bunches of them. I can't even begin to name the amount.   I think the graduating class is +/- 300 this year......in that range.  Then there are those that will not play sports in college that will receive scholastic scholarships at Argyle......and a great majority if not ALL of those were also involved in some capacity with UIL sanctioned activities in high school.  There's some very intelligent students with very high GPA's at Argyle each year.  Just about all of these scholarship recipients are active participants in UIL activities while in high school.

On another note of interest regarding the Argyle Eagles coaching staff.......OC Jason Bachtel has accepted the Head Coaching position at Howard Payne University for the 2021 season.  Coach Bachtel has been instrumental in assisting HC/AD Todd Rodgers and the players and other coaches on the staff to help Argyle create a very impressive offensive juggernaut in his few years while at Argyle.  He will be sorely missed and we all wish him great success in his future endeavors.

Argyle had a great team this year, because of Covid-19 I got to see them play on Texas live three times.
I would have  loved to see the Dawgs and Argyle play this year. What a game that would have been.
Great matchups all over the place.

Yep yep yep.......definitely would have been the Game of the Year in 4A......and most probably one of the Top 5 best games of the year in Texas high school football this  past season if it had happened......maybe even the best!!  🌠 :munch::mower::trophy: 🏈 :medal:😎

I forgot to list Caden Reeves(6-5/290/OL).  He made 1st Team All-District as a junior last season and was being heavily recruited thru the summer.  He sustained an early-season ACL injury to his left leg in the 2nd game of the season and was out all year with the injury on the sidelines and working out to get ready to play at the college level.  Not sure and haven't heard any recent updates on Caden, but he's a good one and was definitely a big missing element in the O-line this season.  I guess on Feb. 3rd we will find out who else from Argyle signs on the dotted line......I'm praying for Caden and his family to secure a scholarship that he has earned and really deserves.  He's a very very good offensive lineman.

Here's a little piece of trivia since we are on the subject of big guys and football.  Did you know that only 14% of the male population in the USA is 6-0 tall or more?  I guess we kinda take it for granted that so many football players are 6-footers(and basketball players too, LOL). So if you are not 6 foot tall or greater, don't think you are under the average.......you are NOT!  The average height of men in the USA is 5-9......and even less in many many other nations.  So there's a piece of little-known statistical data you can put in your pipe and smoke this weekend......and let your Honeydo know how lucky she is to have a man like you.

On another more personal note......I finally got to see that Orthopedic Specialist for Rotator Cuff injuries in early January.  After reviewing my MRI scans and putting me thru a battery of strength and flexibility tests, it was determined that my partial tear is not severe enough to require Rotator Cuff surgery.  That was some serious good news for me considering I'm very active outdoors and love to golf for great exercise and competitive enjoyment.  Rotator Cuff surgery involves a minimum  of 3 weeks with your arm in a sling after surgery with very very limited movement.  Then approx. 3-6 mos. of rehab exercises just to get it back to range of motion.......then another 6 mos. to recovery.  As it stands now, I'm going to physical therapy twice weekly for about 1.5 hrs and then performing the same exercises and conditioning at home for 20 reps daily times about 6 different movements.....which I will gladly do to get back to golfing.  I did go fishing this past week for the first time in a while........the casting was an issue and caused my right shoulder discomfort and dull aches off and on until I gave it a day's rest.  That's been the symptoms the whole way, and I knew I had torn it on the golf course immediately after I hit that drive.  I could not even finish my round it hurt so bad.

That is impressive.....I could've went D1 but I went to Mexico in the middle of football season.

There is no shortage in talent either.  We play their 7th and 8th grade teams... full of solid football players with kids that can throw the ball 40 yards+ downfield as 7th and 8th graders...

I do have a question though... With Witten taking over at Liberty Christian in Argyle, will that hurt the program in any way?

I seriously doubt that Jason Witten can wrestle away any quality Argyle players to Liberty Christian vs what Todd Rodgers has established at Argyle.  It will take some time for Witten to get Liberty Christian's program back to a state contender.......their program over there is nothing compared to AHS at any level.  They may be able to garner some youngsters early in lower grades, but AHS and AMS already has better curriculum for free compared to the cost of going to Liberty Christian.

I think you strongly underestimate the stupidity of many parents of young "athletes"

He turned down at least 5 very good full scholarship offers to go to Baylor and contend for the starting QB position.

Is he really going to compete for the "starting QB position" as a PWO? The kid is good, but I think they would have offered him a scholarship if they expected him to compete for the starting job.

Like @Eagleborn said, there are a lot of PWO's this cycle.  And "they" may not expect him to compete for the starting job, but I guarantee in his mind he's going to compete for it.  I doubt he turns down those other offers if they told him he had no shot.  PWO is an opportunity to compete and turn yourself in to a scholarship athlete.  If the kid can afford to pay tuition, it's a good chance to go where you want to go and make a mark.

Not to mention 4* State Champion Kyron Drones is an actual Baylor commit in this cycle.

If I had to bet on it, Drones or Jacob Zeno will take the snaps for Baylor long term.

First and foremost for any walk on is trying to make the 130 man roster. (85 are on schollys.) Next, somewhere in the future is trying to make the travel squad (very hard to do but can be done). Next is trying to compete for a starting job. And "most" of the time a PWO gets some kind of admissions paid but not close to a full ride.

And that list at the top is VERY impressive for a 4A school.
