Texans Even Care About Dem Reps Walkout?

Since the vote for critical race and the operation of the state ain't going their way the dems have walked out of the capitol and could be headed to DC.

Prosecute or expel? Hang them for treason or no?

They did something similar in 2003. First they went to Oklahoma, then they went to New Mexico.

The thing is, according to the Texas Constitution, Abbott can just keep calling Special Sessions. They're limited to 30 days each, but he doesn't need to give notice, and apparently can just call them 30 days at a time.

Is there a limit on the number of special sessions that can be called between regular legislative sessions?

No. The Texas Constitution does not limit the number of special sessions a governor may call in between two regular legislative sessions.

Does there have to be a break between special sessions?

No. The Governor may call special sessions back-to-back. As an example, the 1st Called Session of the 79th Legislature ended on July 20, 2005 and the 2nd Called Session began on July 21, 2005.

The Governor may also convene a new special session on the same day that a special session ends. As an example, the 1st Called Session of the 78th Legislature ended on July 28, 2003 and the 2nd Called Session began at 3:15pm the same day.

Does the Governor have to give members of the legislature advance notice before calling and convening a special session?

No. Texas Constitution, Article 4, section 8(a) places no time limits on the Governor's power to convene a special session. The Constitution states that "The Governor may, on extraordinary occasions, convene the Legislature at the seat of Government, or at a different place, in case that should be in possession of the public enemy or in case of the prevalence of disease threat. His proclamation therefor shall state specifically the purpose for which the Legislature is convened." The interpretive commentary included in Vernon's Constitution of the State of Texas Annotated explains:

[The Governor] "may call at any time and for any reason, although he must state his purpose in the proclamation calling the legislators to special session."

At 1:30 a.m., on June 2nd, 1987, Governor Bill Clements called a special session of the 70th Legislature to begin at 11 a.m. the same day. The special session lasted only one day. Governor Clements called the fifth special session of the 71st Legislature under similar circumstances.

And you KNOW what Democrats would be saying if Republicans did this.

I'm not sure if there are any real repercussions, though. Probably just voting. Basically what they're doing is preventing a quorum. My understanding is that if they didn't leave, they could be compelled to come to Austin (under threat of arrest, I believe). Being out of state, I don't think that applies.

Here ya go...

"Will be arrested".

Quote

"First of all, I'll tell you what the House of Representatives can do. What the speaker can do is issue a call to have these members arrested.

"In addition to that, however, I can and I will continue to call a special session after special session after special session all the way up until election next year. And so if these people want to be hanging out wherever they're hanging out on this taxpayer-paid junket, they're going to have to be prepared to do it for well over a year," the governor said.

Would you rather them rile up their constituents so that they would storm the capitol building?  Apparently you can do that and not get in trouble.

You mean Antifa and BLM, seems they have been riled up for a while and those doing the riling apparently are not getting into any trouble with the law, heck they are even getting paid with donations from woke corporations. You analogy don't hold water

These people were elected to sit in Austin and do their job, I know they don't get paid a lot--but it is time to cut their pay off until they return. Jail would be a great thing for each and everyone of them--and if the GOP did this, I would say the same. These people are traitors to their state. Instead of trying to win more elections, they run like scared rabbits. I don't remember the GOP leaving town on tough questions for the 100 years the Dems ran the state legislature. But what do expect out of people with NO MORALS.

That's not quite how it works. The Texas legislature is in session for a very short amount of time per term. When a Special Session is called, they get paid a certain amount, and usually get a per-diem, if I'm not mistaken, but the $7,000 or so that they get for their session is basically not for the full two years, but whenever they're in an actual Legislative, non Special session. At least as far as I know.

Please explain how that is Communist. I am not sure you throwing that word at everything applies, Eugenia.

I think it's a misstep on the part of the Democrats to leave. I think it's a misstep on the part of Abbott as well to threaten them with arrest when they come back.

Big publicity stunt.  The irony, they run to a location with less early voting than the Texas Voting Rights Bill.  To put it in context, if this bunch had been at the Alamo, they’d been over the wall and hauling azz to Louisiana.  Or they could be compared to little children that don’t get their way, take their ball and leave.  What a bunch of losers.  Patriots?  For not doing their jobs and abandoning the State?  Not even remotely close.

Look at that bunch of mostly ignorant white women

Saw their big publicity stunt on TV.  I thought it ironic that they only showed men speaking.  Group of mostly women, but the Dems threw them to the “back of the bus” and the men took over.  Those goofy women are being used.  So funny.  😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
