Even after last night, I didn't say a word.

But yea, tonight was a complete cluster you know what. Couldn't even get my name to show up on the profile page most of the night. Score section was definitely not happening.

I kept wondering the same thing that the quoted post mentioned. I just don't understand why they tried to break this app out the week of the first game. Makes no sense to me. You should expect things to break, you should expect there to be bugs. Just don't think they were anywhere ready to release this and they've completely fumbled it.

Taking out the feature to completely filter by district is a huge mistake, IMO, as well. That desperately needs to be returned at some point.

Yes, rankings, please! And a way to see what division teams are in with all the nondistrict games being played, it’s hard to remember who’s what.

Saw a tweet that Stepp called out a coach for criticizing him(Stepp)since he wasn’t a developer kinda like coaches get annoyed by people in the stands. The problem with Stepp’s argument is that he is the face of the app and was promoting it. I know people that are in business development and sales that catch a bunch of grief because they promote and represent the company. Yet, it was the company’s operations staff that actually caused the issue. Unfortunately when you choose to promote and are the face of the app and Dave Campbell you also set yourself up for the criticism, right or wrong.

I’m still willing to give them a chance to fix it. I think the biggest frustration for everyone including myself is that they’ve had all year to develop and beta test this new platform. If they did beta test it it must have been a small test bed. Seems they pulled a Microsoft and just threw it on us and was just as surprised as we were when it didn’t work. I own an IT consulting company  and if I can impart any wisdom on you Mr Stepp it would be to always beta test and never go live the day the app is actually needed 😂

Timing of the rollout def wasn't good, and you'd think that might have been preventable, but you have to expect there to be glitches that need worked out.  There are still features that they plan to add, so looks like time got away and they launched a basic version just have something for us.

Still wondering if this is an app issue or also maybe a server issue?  It worked fine for me right up until game time, and working fine now, so maybe not enough server to handle the sudden spike in usage?

I'll ride along for several weeks yet in the hope things getting fixed.

I absolutely think it was a server or bandwidth issue. It got overwhelmed by the number of connections being made and couldn’t handle it.

This sort of thing seems like the first box to check.  Know your subscriber base.  Know how to handle the traffic.  That's step one.  Period.  The fact that they couldn't even get that right is telling.  I will also give the app a chance, but my biggest worry is that by the time they get all the wrinkles ironed out, so many people will have abandoned the app that it will render it useless.  Users are what make the app work.  If there is nobody using the app, updating scores, etc. - then the app is useless.  It should be utterly embarrassing that the developers were overwhelmed by the number of users to the point of making the app inaccessible to the majority of users.  Setting features aside entirely.  They couldn't even get the app - flaws and all - to work.  On opening weekend.  Embarrassing.

That and leaving the best part of the old application out of the new one .... if you're going to replace something that works fine and everyone likes, the new version should be better functionally, not less functional .... I honestly believe this whole, new app was primarily a platform to promote their paid subscription services and the Friday Night Football app was secondary .... but who blames them, they are in it to make money .... too bad they had to screw up a great app in the process ....

Did Smoaky take over a perfectly operable site and make arbitrary and unnecessary changes that rendered it inoperable?

Nope. 

I understand that some growing pains are expected and inevitable, but this isn't a case of growing pains.  This is an absolute botched roll out.  Nothing was right.  From the very bottom to the very top - it was bad.   Just bad.

The new app is a dumpster fire. Couldn't get scores all night, then when you could you have to scroll through every district to see anything. You cant filter to districts like before, cant pull up records and it was hard to follow where the games were in time, quarter and score. 

 

Horrible upgrade, if it doesn't improve this next week, I will delete it.

No need to filter with the games near me 100 miles function .... one click and bam! .... vs all the filtering by districts or classifications  ...

Well it is a huge disappointment to lose the app.  Even if it had worked last night it is not even a shadow of the previous ap.  If they bought it just improve it or keep it the same.   No need to re-invent the wheel.  The old one was fine especially after they finally got it on servers that could handle thousands of crazed high school football fans.  I expect more from Texas Football, I have bought the issue every year since 1984 and am a current subscriber.  I got my scores on Smoaky and KXII channel 12 in Sherman.  During the game I got an occasional connection but even then the list of scores were not updated - I could only see the score if I drilled down to a game and said I was a score changer.  But this was only about 10% functional.    The old app was a big part of a fun Friday night.  I hate to see it go.
