Mavchamp, how do you  figure? Longview has a pretty decent record...

Longview's football team was made up of a bunch of sophomores and juniors....same applies to the basketball team.

Much of the team are sophomores. 4/5 starters are sophomores and the other starter is a junior (Jalen Hale).

Sophomore class is not only a big class for football but across all of Longview's sports in general. Longview will be more than fine for the future.

Marshall holds on to beat Longview 53-50.

Exciting game.

But tbh…..neither is very good.

Basketball not a priority in East Texas. Our best players play football 75% of the year, then try to sneak in basketball for 3 months. Other schools are playing all year around. Tyler high best player the last couple of years, decided to play football this past season.

Kinda makes what Tatum did last pretty remarkable.

Longview is like 11-9 on the season.  They have improved, but they are beating a bunch of other East Texas schools.

Lufkin is probably the best big East Texas school this year. They are like 16-2. Sulphur Spings not too bad either.

I think Longview has SS soon,  pretty big district game.

I don’t know who all Longview has played….but last night wasn’t great basketball by either team IMHO.

Marshall, like Longview, is young.  BUT they have only won 5 games this season. Granted….they have been competitive in most of their losses. But they aren’t a great shooting team.   Neither was Longview last night.

I know THS got a big win over MP last night too, but the Tigers have struggled this season (6 wins?).  Longview struggled to beat Texarkana in a game a couple of nights ago; guys on here described it as a sloppy game.  Same as last night.

East Texas basketball just isn’t very good this season.  Sulphur Springs and MP have carried the flag the last free years.  MP appears to be down.

SS’s record isn’t pretty….but they have probably played the toughest schedule you can find. They are battle tested.   Lufkin’s record is impressive.   Same with Hallsville.  I’ve seen the Bobcats….. they are a complete team. Play smart. Athletic.

My guess is that Hallsville, SS, and Lufkin are our best chances of playoff runs.  Everyone else is likely a yawner.  Hope I’m wrong.

Hallsville is 22-2 I think.  I’ve seen them play. They are a well disciplined, athletic, sound team.  Going to be hard to beat.

SS is going to be a beast I think.  Their record is deceptive because the level of their completion is much higher than anyone else in the district

Haven’t seen LP. But sounds like they are solid.

Whitehouse and Nacs girls played last night in Nac and good ole Whitehouse showed up again.

3 things

1. WH fans yelling at the scores table calling them idiots loud enough that the entire gym heard them because they disagreed with possession arrow on a jump ball. The possession arrow was correct and the fan was wrong. The score keeper is actually an ex SFA basketball player and a principal at one of our schools in the district. He actually went up to the section the comment came from and the 2 women that yelled it, actually left the gym before he made it up to the section.

2.A few WH fans sat next to one of our student organizations (in the Nac home section) that was attending the game, they did not like that our students were into the game, standing at the rail and cheering our team on. They went and got the NISD PD to make the entire section sit down. Which is ironic since we all know how the WH student section treats their opponents.

3.The WH coach was telling his players on the bench that if we can win this game in Nac, when they play in WH they will get all the calls that were going against them in this game. The fouls actually favored them for the entire game and a few non-calls and ref decisions actually cost Nac 2 possessions and led to a 9-0 run by WH. Refs changed their decision on a possession and allowed WH to inbound the ball before Nac got back to the defensive side of the floor.

Nac did not win because of their own mistakes, so this isn't sour apples because we lost. Most of the above things happened with Nac. either in the lead or tied.

one of Hallsville losses is to Tyler High.   So I don't know. Tyler got beat by Longview at home. Honestly I agree with you. MP, SS, and Lufkin are best chances at some sort of playoff run.  And thats like 2 games maybe 3 at best.

Whitehouse fans/teams behaved badly at a sporting event???

Shocking.

In other news…. Water is wet and fire is hot.

I’ll withhold my comments about WH fans as most people on here know how I feel. Needless to say, only the names have changed….

Lady Lobo soccer improved to 3-0-1 on the year following a 2-0 win at Lufkin tonight.

Big weekend ahead in Longview with two tournaments starting Thursday.

Lady Lobos (3-0-1) will compete in the Pine Tree Lady Pirate Showcase, facing off against Wylie East, Whitehouse, Jacksonville. Longview has not lost in regulation in the past 23 matches dating back to last season's 4-1 loss to Tyler Legacy on Jan 16th. Riding a 23-1-2 run overall. Only thing missing is a deep playoff run.

Lobos (4-0-1) take part in the Lobo Invitational with matches against Tyler Legacy, North Forney and Jacksonville. Longview off to their best start since 2011. Riding a 21-1-2 run themselves dating back to last season. Biggest test of the year so far will no doubt be this Thursday against the Red Raiders.

The couching carousel is really turning for East Texas 5A Div II schools.

Of the 9 CURRENT 5A Div II schools..... 4 of the 9 will have a new HFC this coming season.  Possibly 5 if the rumblings of Nac are true.

That's interesting considering Hallsville and WH each had new coaches last season too.  That means 6 of the 9 have had changes in the last 2 seasons...... possibly 7 with Nac.

Stanford is the longest at only 5 seasons followed by Griedl at Marshall.

Texas High- Gerry Stanford- 5 seasons (39-19)
Marshall- Jake Griedl- 3 seasons (20-13)
Nacogdoches- Darren Allman- 3 seasons (8-13)
Hallsville- Josh Strickland- 1 season (3-7)
Whitehouse- Kyle Westerberg- 1 season (2-8)

Pine Tree and MP will have new coaches this coming fall.

Jacksonville and Sulphur Springs are both dropping to 4A....but they will each have new coaches in 2022.

Meanwhile... all the East Texas 5A Div II coaches have been in their post a while.

John King- 18 seasons
Ricklan Holmes- 10 seasons
Todd Quick- 10 seasons

Interesting stuff.

Longview fans, does Longview livestream their basketball games? I checked NFHS and didn't see one for tonight. Thanks in advance for any info.

They're streamed on Youtube and on Facebook. Sorry for the late response.
