I'll get all the good stuff posted later this weekend.

Another BIG game.  Each looking to move to (2-0).

Marshall coming off an upset win over Pine Tree 17-10.  Jacksonville coming off a big win over Hallsville 49-20.

JAX finally put together a complete game . . . special teams, defense, and offense. Haven't been able to get all three of those to work together yet.  Last night was a nice win, a needed win, the first in the new Tomato Bowl. Marshall will be a handful, as usual. Looking forward to seeing all the renovations to Mavericks Stadium since we've been there. Love the venue, great place to play.

More work planned for Maverick Stadium in the future.  Home sweet Home.

Jacksonville gave us fits last season.... then again....who didn't?

Our offensive line was absolutely horrendous last season....historically bad.  This year we're younger on the O line... but MUCH improved.  We still have some hiccups and breakdowns....but it's been night and day.

Having a mobile QB has been a game changer for us though.  While Burris had one heck of an arm last season.... he wasn't very mobile.  That porous offensive line did him NO FAVORS.   Poor guy had to run for his life on almost every play.  That's a lot to ask of a guy that's a pocket passer.

This season.... our QB's arm isn't as strong as Burris' last year, but he's MUCH more mobile.  He can make you pay.  But he's had almost 500 yards passing in just 2 starts.  TBH.... if he had started against New Caney.... I think we win that game.  It was 9-7 with 3 mins left in the game.... I think we would have scored more had he played.  But he never did.

Another thing we have this season that we didn't have last season is a true running back.  We ran by committee last season... and that O line never opened any holes.  JQ Davis has been a game-changer for us.  He was absolutely invaluable last week against Pine Tree.

Defense bends at times between the 20's... but they have had several goal-line stands already this season.

New Caney had a 1st and goal at the 5 and failed to get in.  McKinney North had a 1st and goal inside the 5 and was held out.  And last week PT had a first and goal at the 4 and didn't score.  They held Longview to 14 points.  Defense has played pretty well this season.

All that being said.... we still have to perform.  We are heavy favorites this week..... but the game isn't played on paper.  We CANNOT overlook Jacksonville.  They are always loaded with athletes.  This game was 21-14 at halftime last year IIRC.  Add in the distraction of Homecoming... and the danger of looking ahead to Texarkana next week..... total trap game.  We can't fall for it.

Looking forward to a good game.  Safe travels to Tribe fans that make the trip.

SIDE NOTES FOR MAV FANS:

1.   The Lady Mav Volleyball team is all alone in second place (4-1) in the district standings and they host first place Texas High (5-0) at Maverick Gym.  If you haven't seen the gym since all new renovations (new floor, new seating, scoreboards, renovated restrooms) you need to go see.  It's like a brand new facility.  Cheering  on the (22-11) Lady Mavs is another reason to go.  Game tips off at 4:30

2.  Homecoming activities for Thursday:
Carnival: 5:30 (On Five Notch Road/MHS staff parking lot)
Pep Rally 7:00 (MHS parking lot)
Bon Fire 7:30 (grassy area South of the MHS parking lot)

Not going to compare Marshall with any of Jacksonville opponents but if they can play with that effort which they did against Henderson even though they lost and this last game against Hallsville may can win this one...Marshall what can I say seems to be playing really well so jacksonville will probably need to be dang near perfect.
